EVENT LOG: A FRIEND IN NEED ( ALFHEIM )

Who: Everyone going to Alfheim
What: The mingle log for A Friend In Need
When: Days 387-390 ( Jan. 12-19 )
Where: Asgard, Alfheim, and the train ride inbetween
Rating: PG-13. Anything higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

Day 387 ( Jan. 12/13 )
Before boarding the train around dawn, the leaders of the separate groups should run checks on everyone that's signed up. Natives will help dish out a simple weapon to those without their own that want one, medical supplies to the healers and a simple kit for everyone else, and a simple mask with strict instructions to put them on as soon as the kingdom is within sight. After everyone is geared up and boarded, Odin's spies will set out on horseback first, masks already in place, to clear the path ahead. This gives you a five hour train ride to go over strategies and coordinate with your fellow Travellers and the Asgard natives that have joined the ranks.

As the train crosses the halfway mark between Asgard and Alfheim, the dark black clouds of smoke and ash will sprawl across the horizon and thicken the air, prompting early placement of the gas masks as a precautionary measure. It's a short trip from there, and once the train has stopped, it's time to get to work. The homes and buildings of Alfheim will be in varying states of disarray and ruin, some still burning as the inhabitants and neighbours struggle to douse the flames. Others will be smouldering, successfully saved or otherwise left to burn itself out in the days since the initial attack. There will still be Fire Giants sparsely wreaking havoc amongst the living quarters, but the vast majority of the fighting will have been drawn into the treeline by the Elves to give room for relief efforts and any evacuation attempts. Homes and larger buildings still largely intact will have been turned into temporary hospital rooms or safe houses for the young and incapable of fighting, with the injured laid out anywhere there is room; the dead will be wrapped in sodden sheets in the alleys between buildings until they can be properly buried - if ever they should find the opportunity.

This leaves the Travellers to split up and jump head first into their tasks. The Elves will be pleasantly surprised and immensely grateful for the arrival of aid, but they will not spare much time to gratitude when the battle wages and every second counts. Those fighting will immediately accept the Travellers into their defence, and from there, they will begin to push back against the Giants' forces. At this point, it will be largely defensive combat, an attempt to keep the Giants from moving further into the kingdom and setting more to flames. Surt himself will be present in this, and a vast majority of those that try to stand against him will be met with a heavy hand. Move carefully, Travellers, for there is still fight left in these desperate Giants.

Day 388/389 ( Jan. 14-17 )
By early morning, just as the Sun is beginning to rise, the Travellers will receive some support from their patron deities back in Asgard. For the next two days, they will have their House Powers to give them that extra edge on the battlefield. Another surprise will arrive as well, as the trees themselves seem to move through the battlefield to push back the Giants. The Treepeople will have arrived, many of whom direct their efforts towards the support group to help control the flames while others exact their grief and anger on the enemy forces that still linger around. These beings are the oldest in Yggdrasil, second only to the immortals, and strongly resemble their respective forests, but they are strong and firmly rooted in the Mother's survival.

They will fight alongside the Travellers until they are cut down or the battle is won, which it seems it will be when the flames begin to significantly dwindle nearing sunrise on Day 389. From that point onward, those fighting for Alfheim will rise to the offence and the Giants will begin to fall back as their numbers lessen and their advantage wanes. They will begin fleeing the kingdom, leaving Surt with only his loyalists at his side - and against the might of the Travellers and the Elves emboldened by their allies' support, they few will not be enough to claim the entire kingdom.

Day 390 ( Jan. 18-19 )
The Travellers' House Powers will fade before sunrise, but between the combined strengths of them, the Elves, and the Treepeople, they will still quickly overpower Surt's remaining forces and send them scurrying back to their ruined kingdom of Muspellheim. Surt will leave weary and more furious than ever at his failure, but he knows too that to stand alone would be his downfall. The battle is won, but the damage has been great and there is little time for celebration. The Travellers will be given the most sincere gratitude from the people of Alfheim, and sent back home with packs of food and supplies to patch themselves up before they arrive back in Asgard as the loyal and true allies to Yggdrasil and her children.

[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the A Friend In Need plot event! Team sign-ups are over here and it is never too late to join, thought the leadership positions have already been chosen. To plot out a thread with Surt, please comment here. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns! ]

Day 387

[Turlough was prepared...slightly. All of the weapons he was used to were much more high-tech than anything in Asgard. You couldn't find a spaceship or a laser pistol in this magical city. So, he stopped by the shrine a day or so before leaving and prayed for a weapon to use. The weapon itself turned out to be a broadsword, remarkably similar to the one that he wielded for about five minutes back home. So he was slightly prepared, but still as nervous as a cat in a kennel.

He spends his time wandering the train, in attempt to find familiar faces or other members of his support team.
]

Days 388-389

[For the first part of the trip, Turlough is surprisingly helpful. When push comes to shove, he can stop complaining and do what needs to be done. He scurries around the battlefield, giving people water, giving more supplies to the healing team, doing what needs to be done.

The second day, with his powers back, he's more in his element. He's still scurrying around and giving out supplies, of course, but if he sees a Traveller being snuck up on or about to have something fall on them, he'll attempt to use his body control powers to move them out of the way. At level two, it's still a battle of wills, but Turlough's banking on people being distracted by the battle. Needless to say, after every attempt, failed or not, he'll walk up to the Traveller, and offer them some supplies.
]

Sorry about that. [he understands perfectly well how creepy the power is.] But you have to admit, it's much faster than saying 'look out for that giant.'

Day 390

[Back on the train, bruised and bloody, Turlough feels absolutely no shame in taking up two seats so he can lay down. His left arm is notably more battered than the right, with plenty of small, open cuts. But the Misos Triangle brand on his arm is still hidden, which in the eyes of Turlough is what really matters. He didn't want any of the healers to see it-too much explaining, too much embarrassment. He's not sleeping, but is instead staring up at the ceiling, his left hand lightly touching the carpeted floor of the train.]

[Mikazuki is really going to town. This was completely different from the battles back home, a whole new level of intensity - and he’s freaking loving it! He feels so alive!

Currently he’s jumping around a couple of giants on a pogo stick, throwing himself off once in air to hit them with it (yes, he brought a pogo stick. yes, he’s using it as a weapon. no, you don’t get to judge). He’s laughing excitedly, completely absorbed in battle and wait a damn minute why is he running away.

Luckily, Turlough is quick enough to explain. Mikazuki looks around - yes, that’s definitely one giant he missed.]

Haha, I see. Don’t be sorry man, you just saved my ass.
failassassin: (bwuh?)

[personal profile] failassassin 2014-01-15 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
[As he sees the man fighting giants with a pogo stick, Turlough takes a brief moment to reevaluate his life, did he really just save someone using a pogo stick to fight?]

I can still be sorry, you know. [his eyes visibly drifted to the pogo stick.] Surely you're not using solely that as a weapon.
crowover: (Default)

[personal profile] crowover 2014-01-15 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
[A pogo stick is pretty tame. He's used living monsters as improvised clubs to hit other monsters before.]

It's pretty useful, you know! Great maneuverability. I took a mace from one of them earlier, but I lost it.
failassassin: (doctor what's that?)

[personal profile] failassassin 2014-01-15 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well you probably should find one again, [Turlough remarked, as he heard the noises of giants approaching. He gripped tight on his sword...though really, most of him just wants to run away at the moment.]

[Mikazuki, on the other hand, looked like he was having the time of his life. When this is over, his cheeks are going to hurt from grinning for four days straight.]

Wanna help me out with that? Can you make a giant drop one, or hold it long enough for me to grab it?
failassassin: (eyebrow goes up)

[personal profile] failassassin 2014-01-16 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, I can't. [he said with a sigh.] My power doesn't work on giants.

[ Ame recognizes the Turlough very quickly, and of course comes up to him . ]

Mister Turlough. [ he smiles, but the wolf is tense, too. Not scared, but quite tense, since it'll be the first time he will ever go into a battle in his whole life ]
failassassin: (oh that's how to cripple the TARDIS?)

[personal profile] failassassin 2014-01-15 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
[As he sees Ame, Turlough smiles weakly. He had watched the boy talk with Skuld, he knew there was no way that the boy would skip out on the fighting.]

Ame. I would ask if you're ready for the fight, but I doubt anyone truly is.
okamichild: (Default)

[personal profile] okamichild 2014-01-15 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
[ he nods softly ]

I... never fought before. I wanted to come to help the forest, but- [ deep inside, he may be a bit afraid ]
failassassin: (doctor what's that?)

[personal profile] failassassin 2014-01-15 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Turlough gave Ame a small little smile, trying to reassure him.]

Don't worry. Once we drive the giants out, you'll have plenty of time to help the forest.

[ the wolf nods ] What group are you in?
failassassin: (doctor you make me worry)

[personal profile] failassassin 2014-01-18 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm helping out with support, [he responded.] Along with...Claudia, Elphaba and Rossiu, I believe. I've never met any of them before.

What about you?

[These powers are so barely useful Billy is so lost ugh. He's wised up and stuck himself on support, able to do little more than place cold hands on things and occasionally shoot his pistol.

He's crouched to reload in a bad place, though, when he suddenly gets the strong urge to move---and he flails, so startled by the foreign sensation that he tries to cold-slap a passing fighter.

Oops. After a hurried apology, he's pulled over again.]

...you're from Hel. That---

Oh. Well, thank you. Right?

[personal profile] failassassin 2014-01-15 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Turlough gives Billy a weak smile, in an attempt to dissuade the fact that body control is really fucking creepy.]

Not everybody gets the useful powers, [he says, in a lame attempt for an explanation.] But yes, I am from Hel House and you're welcome.
morphitudinous: (No thanks)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2014-01-16 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
...thank you, I think.

[Billy idly touches the bar he was using as a self defense tool---it starts to frost over briefly.]

My power's not useful either, I'm afraid. Nothing I freeze with such a weak power can last in this heat.

So...I'm part of the supply run club.
failassassin: (slightly snarky)

[personal profile] failassassin 2014-01-16 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that makes two of us, [Turlough said, with a small shrug.] And don't worry about your power-it gets better with practice.
morphitudinous: (Head turned)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2014-01-19 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
I hope so.

But for now...thanks again. And when we have time, I would really be interested in the workings of that power.

[He reaches out and lightly frosts a cloth from his pack---one of the very few uses for his fledgling power, he's found, is to create a wet cloth for cooling. As the ice melts, he passes one over.]

Here. Feeling overheated?

[His armor already showing signs of heavy usage, Souji looks over his shoulder to him when he gets a strange nagging feeling to move his legs. The power had failed for the most part due to his strong will, but the doubt planted in his head did cause him to turn around and avoid the giant just as it was about to strike him.

Throwing a packet on the ground, vines grow from the seeds, and lash out at it, swatting him, even the creature's fire not immune to the plant's itching effects. Faced with a foe who's aware of it instead of easy prey, it chooses to run away from him rather than risk its death, something Souji is more than grateful for. When it's finally over, he looks over at Turlough and grins, tried. By now he's not completely certain where he is, but it's nice to see a familiar face.]

It was. Thank you. [He looks down at his hand, thinking. There's not much time and he can hear a few more coming from the sounds.] Turlough-san...do you think you could do that again? If I let you, this time. [Having a second pair of eyes could be useful.]
failassassin: (bwuh?)

[personal profile] failassassin 2014-01-16 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[As Souji looks over his shoulder, avoids the giant and then swats the giant itself with plants, Turlough grins from the sidelines, obviously impressed. And here he had thought that the growth power was one of the more useless ones.

And then, at Souji's question, Turlough gives him a look like he is blatantly insane. Why would anyone want to be controlled? It's briefly caught him off guard, but after a moment, he answers.
]

I suppose I can. I can't control the giants, of course, but if you let me, I can easily control you.

[wow that was a creepy sentence.]

[There's one member of the support team already, and Elphaba is obvious enough--her green skin is enough to set her aside from the rest, and the distinctive pointed black hat she keeps wearing is another hallmark of hers. She's also tapping her fingers on the arm rest and looking out the window, a little nervous about all this.

She glances at the man wandering around the train once or twice, but deigns to comment around the third time her gaze cuts to him.]

You know how to use that thing?
failassassin: (oh that's how to cripple the TARDIS?)

[personal profile] failassassin 2014-01-18 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
More or less, [Turlough responds, as he walks into the carriage where Elphaba is. Her green skin gets a once-over, but that's it. Turlough's seen stranger things back home as well as during his travels with the Doctor, a green-skinned girl is distinct enough to be noticed, but that's it.]

I wasn't going in there empty handed, after all.
unnaturallygreen: (all right; enough; so be it! so be it th)

[personal profile] unnaturallygreen 2014-01-18 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
For your sake, I hope it's more rather than less, and that it's considerably more than "stick someone with the sharp and pointy end".

[She huffs out a tired breath. She'd left her broomstick back in her room in Sigyn, traded it for a dagger, knowing that her broom wouldn't work as a weapon, but she's not about to fight now, is she?]

How long until we get there?
failassassin: (Default)

[personal profile] failassassin 2014-01-18 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I knew, [Turlough remarked, looking outside at the scenery pass by.] It would be nice to know how much longer we're on here.
unnaturallygreen: (well look at what well-meant did)

[personal profile] unnaturallygreen 2014-01-19 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'd estimate about two or three more hours, or so. [She taps her fingers on the arm rest, tapping out a frantic, nervous beat.] But I'd love to be more sure of it, and of our chances.
