EVENT LOG: LOCUSTS!

Day 431 ( Apr. 10/11 ): Any early risers that head outdoors as the sun is rising will find a somewhat strange sight: hundreds of earthworms, scattered all across any available loose earth, squirming around on the ground. What caused them all to dig their way to the surface isn't clear just yet, but they aren't the only creatures behaving a bit strangely today.

Just as the sun breaks the horizon around 7AM, a single stag will come charging through the city coming from the north and heading straight through the Gate of Frost. Mere minutes after that, a whole herd of deer will follow his lead and stampede their way south without care for anyone or anything that might get in their way. Smaller animals like wolves, foxes, rabbits, and the likes will follow at their feet, birds flying overhead in great flocks - all headed the same direction. Any pets or animals within the city will be irritable and anxious, some trying to escape and follow the same path outside and away from Asgard.

In the midst of the mass exodus, the bracelet's SOS function will blare loudly as one of the gods summons the Travellers to the castle.

The Travellers will have less than an hour to get themselves to the heart of the city where natives will already be ushering people indoors with a nervous calm. The whole of the city will be rushing their way through the barrier, and it will be made obvious fairly early on that not everyone can fit inside the castle. Jockey for a safe position and keep a strong hold on your loved ones so that you don't get separated in the chaos, but be fast about it.

After that hour mark, a wave of water will come crashing through the city from the north, flooding the streets at a height of approximately 10ft / 300cm. Anyone not within the castle barrier by that point will either drown or be swept away in a violent current that will carry send their bodies into whatever solid objects might stand in their way. Those safely within the barrier will see Heimdall at the front gate with his hands raised as though pressed against an invisible wall; if they look closely, they will be able to make out all city structures glowing with a faint shimmer - either royal blue, pale green, or amber - before their view is obscured by the water pounding against the barrier. The dome over the castle will be made visible by the flood encapsulating it as it washes anything that wasn't rooted down through the streets. It will be an awesome sight, though grim enough, as nature takes its course through the city.

The flooding will continue for several hours, during which time the Travellers will be largely left to their own devices as they wait out the worst of it. Sigyn, Freyr, and Freya will be going around with castle maids to make sure that no one in harmed and to try to keep people relatively calm. Hel, Fenrir, and Jormungand will be doing their level best to intimidate people into compliance by coordinating the immediate relief efforts that will take place as soon as they are able to leave. This means that, for the few hours it takes for the flood to die down, the castle will be largely unmonitored as the gods try to minimise the damage.

After the worst of the flooding passes, the residents of Asgard will be free to return to their homes. There will still be a foot of water to wade through, but it will be slow moving and relatively harmless. Thanks to Thor, Baldr, and Loki's protection spells, all buildings will still be structurally sound, if not wholly intact. Glass panes may be shattered and wooden doors may be splintered; anything that wasn't firmly tied down may be displaced somewhere down the road or otherwise destroyed. But for the most part, the damage is minimal. Now just to do something about this pesky water ...
Day 432 ( Apr. 12/13 ): By now, the floodwater has lowered to a scant inch or two, leaving the city streets littered with debris but otherwise safe for travel. Natives will be setting up booths to help coordinate the return of lost possessions or missing pets, reporting any property damage, and recovering any bodies of those that might not've made it to the castle in time. Travellers are welcome and encouraged to assist in the relief efforts. There will be district clean-up sign-ups below, but these are not mandatory to get involved, they're more of a way to see who will be in your district to make plotting easier.

Later in the day, while everyone is still trying to rid the streets of the lingering water and put everything back to rights, the first survivors of the flood will begin trickling into the waterlogged city. Outlying villages and encampments were destroyed in the disaster and are now seeking refuge with their gods in the capitol. Despite the stress Asgard is already under with the supply shortage and the damage from the flood, the Prince Regent will not deny his citizens the aid they require and will welcome them into the city until they can revive the land to health.
Days 433-434 ( Apr. 14-17 ): Relief efforts will now be split into two different areas: recovering the city and creating space for the new arrivals. The natives will need help setting up temporary housing, like filtering families into unused housing and setting up tents for the remaining numbers. They will need to ration out food and general camping supplies, and when Asgard is currently in a supply shortage, making ends meet will be a bit of a struggle. We would really love to see some player created groups banding together to do this! Things like donation collections or fostering an NPC or anything at all, you guys should work together to help facilitate the arrival of these refugees and their temporary(?) stay within the city. There are some player projects already up here if you’d like to take a look and get involved!

On the other side of relief efforts will be cleaning up the streets, boarding up broken windows, things like that. Sigyn will be working to rebuild the wall and could use some assistance in not only construction but the magic of her barrier as well. More player coordination here will help put things back to rights, so if your character has an idea of what they can do to help, please comment below to start up some relief projects! It'll basically be two days of everyone trying to dig themselves out of the mess and get settled again.

[You never ignore warnings from the animals, and doubly so when it affects the normally calm Shirou. As a result, Yuusuke makes it into the barrier with plenty of time to spare. It doesn't take all that long to toss some knives, a length of rope, and most importantly, that ancient journal into a knapsack after all.

Once again, Shirou squirms unhappily in his arms even despite his best efforts to calm the cat down. Wrapped around his left wrist is the white snake he received from home, and every time it makes a movement to escape his grasp, he's quick to tighten his grip just enough to keep a hold on it. As the place becomes more and more crowded, Yuusuke will keep retreating closer and closer to the walls, eventually leaning up against one as he pets Shirou with his free right hand.

He's got an unusually serious look about him today, and for good reason. Maybe having another person to chat with will help pass the time as the floods go?]

[Day 432]

[After cleaning up his room somewhat and returning the snake to her cage, Yuusuke hits (sloshes onto?) the streets to survey the damage. As expected, it's pretty bad, although...

He does pause when he comes across that corpse curled up against the wall it had no doubt been swept into. His expression remains calm, even if his eyes have narrowed by a fraction as he considers it. Ahh, what should he do about this...?]

[Days 433 and 434]

[Perhaps surprisingly, Yuusuke can be found around the city helping out with the cleaning efforts during these days. It's mainly out of his own convenience, but when he comes across the remaining piles of debris, he'll take the time to levitate them into neater stacks with lost but salvageable items in one and everything else in another. Of course, the minute he catches sight of anyone who's noticed him, that cocky grin is right back on his face.]

Are you just gonna stand there, or are you gonna lend me a hand?

[Sometimes he'd step out of the hospital for some fresh air, though what qualified it as 'fresh', BJ didn't know. The look of disorientation is still lingering on him, though it's not nearly to same extent as it had been on that first day. There was only so much a man could resolve to accept from powers that slipped him into yet another war that wanted him away from home.

Speaking of powers, those were downright confusing in their own right. A part of him felt like he had stepped into the comic books that sometimes were swapped in the trading posts. That there were kids around, Travellers instead of natives, did little to quell the sensation. BJ looks mildly surprised when the boy calls to him, and he even points to himself in a 'who, me?' gesture before slipping on a polite little smile to counter Yuusuke's cocky grin.] I didn't think you needed it. You're moving much faster than I could, I thought I'd just slow you down.

It actually takes a lot of energy to do this much. Even manual help would be appreciated!

[Seriously, don't leave this all to him. Even if he's in the middle of carefully lowering a sturdy wooden box into the "salvageable" pile, he's not doing this because he's particularly charitable. It just happened to be in the way.

Not that it'd be easy to pick up on his annoyance what with that bright smile of his.]

[Oh! Well with that being said, BJ feels like he's done wrong in dawdling. He steps over to grab a hold of the wooden box, to steady it, he thinks. He wishes he had a camera to take a picture of the scene, and then he could look at it later and verify that he wasn't insane. Not sure where he's specifically needed, BJ then takes a step back to look at the piles, and he thinks he finds the use for each, and he begins to just lift what debris he can without much strain.]

I'm new here. I don't know a lot about the powers or how draining they can be. --I'm BJ, by the way. Or Doctor Hunnicutt if you wanna call me that. [At least the kid seemed to be a good sport.] Are you searching for something in particular?

Yuusuke Sagami. Nice to meet you, Doctor.

Searching, though? Not exactly. I'm just trying to make travel easier.

[...For himself. But help is help, right?]

Everyone's got to do their part, so I figured this would be the most useful choice for me. [Or... whatever.

Still, BJ's help means it is now possible for Yuusuke to lift the debris that had been trapped beneath that stuff, floating it all in the air for a moment before he begins separating the individual pieces into their respective piles. It's mostly garbage, but a waterlogged doll does make it into the salvage pile.]

Yuusuke, then. It's nice to meet you, too, despite the circumstances. [His train of thought's interrupted by sight of the doll. For a moment, BJ stills and makes no attempt to hide his initial interest in the thing. He only hikes up his brows, though, because reasonably speaking-- a toy wasn't worth getting worked up over. He'd seen bodies in the streets, after all.

That doll wasn't his daughter's, after all. So with a quick hum, BJ thinks he lets it known he doesn't quite buy Yuusuke's explanation for the well-doing.] It's very thoughtful of you to be helping. I'm sure your friends must think so, too. [No way a kid was alone here, helping just because he could.]

Well, everyone's help is needed, right? It'd be just awful if people didn't pitch in just because they happened to be lazy.

[Suspect all you want, BJ. Yuusuke's got a pretty good poker face by now. He keeps his tone nice and innocent as he continues:]

Speaking of which, you don't happen to recognize that doll, do you? At some point we're going to have to find a way to find the owners of this stuff, but it'd be a lot easier if you already knew them.

[ Kaworu is walking around around the castle to look for few people and to make sure any familiar faces are alright. However, it's difficult when there is a crowd and everyone tends to shove and push - which is what happens to the angel, who eventually bumps into Yuusuke. ]

ah - I'm sorry. Are you alright?

[ he is carrying a bag, a carrier for his cats and the three are inside. Though scared, they at least remain silent (probably because they are scared). ]

I'm just peachy.

[...Is what he says, even though he's clearly annoyed. Shirou's on the alert, staring warily at this newcomer even as Yuusuke gives him another pet on the head.]

Calm down. It's alright.

All animals seem rather nervous. they eventually affect even their owners.

[ he smiles softly at Yuusuke and his pet. he does understand why they'd be bothered ]

It's hard not to worry about them when they're like this.

[He makes it sound as lighthearted as possible, but it's a more sincere sentiment than he'd like to admit.]

The animals and the people They all are nervous. [ kaworu looks back at the gates of the castle ] And with reason.

The stuff that happens here sure do affect the animals strongly.

[It's half musing, half annoyed. Something similar happened when he was in Ginnungagap, too. It was... unnerving, seeing Shirou acting like a regular cat in these situations. He was so well-trained, it was completely out of character.]

Even though they're worried, the humans seem to need a little extra push, though.
