What: Jade bribing people into her restaurant with free things.

[ It had worked once before, back in the heat of late summer in Asgard, so Jade was trying it again. She had dragged the sign out to the front of the store, right in the middle of the sidewalk, and written in huge letters:

free hot chocolate! :D
just come inside ♥

The temperature hadn't broken the sixty degree mark today - it was getting chilly fast. Both Orihime and Annabeth were gone, and the store was oddly quiet. Jade will be found keeping herself busy throughout the day with odd little chores when it's completely empty of customers - sweeping, dusting, and occasionally dozing in a booth near the door when the boredom becomes too much to bear. ]

Oh. Sorry. [ that's what you were supposed to say? or maybe good that she'd gone home? spike stepped in more awkward social cues here man. ]

Was nice of you to give out freebies today. Any reason for it, or just feeling charitable?

Things were slow. I felt like company, I think. Are you hungry, too? I could make you a bowl of soup or a sandwich or something.

...I wouldn't say no to a bite. [ food was still weird and foreign territory for spike, but he was doing his best with it. trying to get in his whole food pyramid instead of the pizza, beer, and wings trifecta -- but he kept forgetting he actually had to until it came up somehow. why couldn't man live on tea and cocoa alone? ] Or company.

Then... I can give you both, no problem.

[ She's moving behind the counter to fill up a mug of the hot cocoa, a slight smile on her face as she does. ]

I can make you a sandwich, if you want? I'm not really a cook here! But I can do sandwiches no problem.

Whatever you feel like making, I'm not particular. [ or was he? he didn't know. ]

[ Jade laughs quietly, pushing the mug of hot chocolate toward him. ]

Drink this and I'll make us both something to eat.

[allbloodyhail]

[ he accepts it and points to a little table. ] I'll just go and wait for you then, shall I?

Yes! Five minutes?

[ She seems excited. ]

[allbloodyhail]

[ he nods with a little smile and goes to sit in the corner, blowing on his cooca and absently looking out the window. ]

[ It'll be about ten minutes before Jade comes to his table, a glass of lemonade and a plate with a grilled sandwich in her hands. She slides it in front of him, moving to seat herself across from him as she does. ]

Tell me how it is.

[ oh he had thought... she was going to eat too. but he doesn't comment on it, gaze flicking up to her face as he accepts the sandwich. he takes a bite and gives her a thumbs-up, but he's not even really sure he's tasting it. ]

Hey, thanks. This really hit the spot. [ meaning the cocoa, but he's still eating the sandwich so no complaints there. ]

[ She's too caught up in herself to really want to eat right now, and she flashes another smile at him as she rests her chin on her upturned palm, elbow on the table. ]

It was nice of you to come out like this.

As if my company's all that desirable. [ he rolled his eyes in a self deprecating manner, though he's amused. just happy to have somewhere to go out to tbh. ]

You tell good stories! I don't see why it shouldn't be. [ She's amused, if vaguely baffled by his response. ]

[allbloodyhail]

[ he chuckled, good-naturedly, though he brought his mug up to obscure part of his face before taking a sip. ] Well, thank you. Again. I've had a lot of practice.

Is that what you do in your home world? Do you tell stories? [ She pauses, peering thoughtfully at him, as if that might allow her to puzzle him out. ] Or - oh, do you have kids??

[ he just barely manages not to spit out his cocoa on her ok bc that would be gross. but it's like a very near thing. he snorts, covering his mouth. ] No - no kids.

But I like to tell stories, yeah, even at home. [ to his bugs. who were basically his kids. slaves, subjects, sometimes friends and confidants. that's what having kids would be like, right? ]

[nukeoleptic]

[ She grins a little sheepishly at his surprise, shaking her head. ] What? I can't just magically know if someone has kids or not. It was a valid question! That's sweet, though. You're good at them.

[allbloodyhail]

I can't really... have kids. [ he blinked at that, realizing he could here. but celibate vampires don't have kids anywhere so he guesses it's fine. ]

Ta, though. I try to make it interesting.

-- ohhh. I'm really sorry, I didn't realize that at all. [ Oh man, that is sad. :c Jade regards him with apology, but not necessarily pity. ] I hear we're more hassle than it's worth, anyway.

No, I mean it's not... [ how did he always manage to get himself into conversations like these... awkward. ]

Yeah, trouble. I've always been more of an uncle than a dad type, anyway.

I never had any kids, but I got to be a really badass adoptive grandma in one. [ She definitely seems fond upon recollection here. ] I mean, I was allegedly a badass all around. But it's sort of cool to think of the 'might have beens.'

[ that gave him pause, but he smiles a little wanly at her story. ] Badass, I can see.
