[ It had worked once before, back in the heat of late summer in Asgard, so Jade was trying it again. She had dragged the sign out to the front of the store, right in the middle of the sidewalk, and written in huge letters:

free hot chocolate! :D
just come inside ♥

The temperature hadn't broken the sixty degree mark today - it was getting chilly fast. Both Orihime and Annabeth were gone, and the store was oddly quiet. Jade will be found keeping herself busy throughout the day with odd little chores when it's completely empty of customers - sweeping, dusting, and occasionally dozing in a booth near the door when the boredom becomes too much to bear. ]

[Ellie didn't relax right away. Her heart was still pounding, adrenaline rushing in her ears. A month ago, she'd have shot her. Right here in front of Jade and the world.

It scared her at times to think of how easily she pulls the trigger -- and at the same time she was worried she'd lose her edge. That she'd hesitate when she shouldn't. Slowly, the safety of her gun clicks back on, and she slid her hand out of her pocket, wiping it on the leg of her pants.]

... who.

[Sam's eyebrow shot up a little bit when that faint click shifted. There was a little quirk in her lips. The mirth didn't leave, but there was definitely an edge of familiarity.

...Arya had preferred blades, though.]

Arya. About your height, thinner. Had a bad habit of skulking in alleys and glaring at people.

[The smile made her suspicious. She didn't know this person, and frankly, her red eyes were throwing her off. Ellie didn't come out from behind the chair. Instead she backed up a little more, a hand on the table. Not entirely aggressive, but enough body language to show that she preferred more personal space to less.]

Did she like being snuck up on like that?

No... but we parted on bad terms. [She sighed and grabbed a chair of her own, sitting down. From her body posture, it might have been obvious that, normally, she was in Ellie's category of personal space. This had been something of an exception.] Sorry about that.

Name's Sam.

[Wait, it's the red eye that's throwing her, not the flopping spaded tail or horns? Priorities girl. She's even got claws.]

[Hey, Ellie's getting used to people looking weird as shit around here. Plenty of people with horns, weird-colored skin, animal ears, freaking elves. She might have been a bit curious, but she's getting jaded on the weird.]

[Yeah, Asgard was a little weird that way. Oh, and don't forget the faint smell of sulfur. That was an added bonus with her.]

[Ellie pulled a deeper breath, glancing around to make sure that everything was still cool. Finally, however, she did pull out a chair and sit down, gripping the edge of it and letting her heart calm the fuck down.

Shock always made her kind of pissed off.]

Nine, actually. [Two months and she hadn't run into this one? She must have been good at doing what she seemed to be doing, blending in. That was a good thing in general.] I was here not that long after the infamous hugging contests.

...you would have hated that.

[Ellie pulls a face, and folds her arms on the table.]

Yeah, good call. Why a contest?

You know, they don't do the house contests as much anymore, but the point was to get us to 'feel' things all over the place. Making people hug each other's a good way to get feelings everywhere. Annoyance or warm fuzzies.

...glad I missed that shit.

Feelings are feelings. You'll pick up on this eventually, but... they don't care if it's us mad or us happy. They all add color. Just different color.

Yeah, ok. I'm not being fair to all of htem. Freyr does actually care, and Sigyn usually tries. I don't know about Freya. She talks a good talk... but I've seen her go completely ballistic before and not give a shit about anything else.

...she had a good reason, but I've definitely seen her not care that much.

Sorry. She got really angry. It was because her brother died, but she's always been... I almost want to say flighty. She's friendly, but if she gets pissed, she'll bite your head off.

... I am a little distracted, sorry. It's sort of weird running into someone like you is all. Brings back mixed memories that don't have anything to do with you.

Sigyn, though... she's alright.

Okay. So what went wrong with this kid, Arya?
