- Day 423 ( Mar. 25/26 )
As the battle wages right outside of Asgard’s walls, the Travellers take to action in a near even split. This battle is not their own, and the defence of the city against being caught in the Giants’ crossfire takes priority. Buildings that are under fire must be evacuated, those incapable of defending themselves led to safety, the flames sparking over the wall extinguished; general rescue and damage control efforts will be given not just in the districts closest to the warring but throughout the entire city. When the Giants’ powers are to manipulate the earth and her elements, there is no speaking to the physical damage they can wreak in all-out war.
Which is why the other half of the city will respond in kind; rather than leaving the Giants unchecked to settle their struggles on their own, the Travellers will join them on the battlegrounds. However, instead of attacking them outright as they have while under attack themselves, they instead take under advisement a more stealthy approach of further pitting the Giants against one another. Many that stand to fight will weave in amongst the Giant forces and attack both sides from within their own ranks, so as to make it seem that one side is gaining strength over the other. Band together and take care to remember who your allies are.- Day 424 ( Mar. 27/28 )
The battle begins to escalate as the Travellers light fires beneath the feet of the Giants, pushing them deeper into combat. Things will elevate to explosive levels of destruction in the most literal of senses. Out on the battlefield, the ground will be shredded in a more centralised manner than the random cracks forming within the city. The earth will lift and shake and separate in an effort by both sides to divide their forces and crush them under the rubble, creating uneven terrain and crevices that can seem bottomless.
There will be areas set aflame, creating walls and barriers that entreat upon any caught in its path; other areas may be slicked in a growing swell of ice that entraps any that touch it in its grasp before icicles sprout up from the cold surface. Use your imagination for these sorts of attacks; just keep in mind that the Giants manipulate physical elements. Only the strongest among them will be capable of this magic, and the King and Queen themselves will be on the field, riding upon their massive black boar and white serpent respectively, to help fuel the chaos. The others will fight in traditional manners, and everyone will be under these haphazard and wild attacks. Consider this the climax of the battle - all things must fall.
And as things become more dangerous outside of the city, so too will it worsen within the walls as the walls themselves begin to tear down. As the Giants’ magic rails against the gods’ barriers, sections of the wall will be blown apart and cascade upon those living below. Residents of Asgard will be able to see Sigyn’s spell in place as a shimmer of green flecks of dust, the very same that has kept the Grey Sickness confined to Asgard and all outside illnesses at bay, begin to flicker and fade as the wall that encased it is shredded apart.
The majority of this damage will take place in the Loki, Sigyn, and Hel districts, as they are the closest to the warfare; Travellers and natives will want to band together to minimise both the damage to the wall itself and the damage created by its collapse. More splinters of ice will pierce holes in other various locations throughout the city, accompanied by random whips of flame lashing over the wall and alighting the sky. Those given to protecting the city will have to put up their shields and focus on cutting off the trajectory of this shrapnel as quickly as possible. Smaller cracks will still be forming throughout the ground as well, so tread quickly but carefully. This battle isn’t over yet.- Day 425 (Mar. 29/30)
UNTIL IT’S OVER YAY!!!
Through the Travellers’ influence in escalating the battle, the Giant forces will burn out quickly in their vicious assault upon each other. The battling continues through the night with little to speak of in the way of respite, but by sunrise on this day, their numbers will have whittled down by either death or retreat. Both sides have suffered massive losses, and when the only end in sight is headed in the direction of complete obliteration, they eventually concede to mutual defeat. They will return to their native kingdoms, the line drawn in the dirt between them taking the shape of the devastated battlefield soaked in the blood of their allies.
The damage lingers, though; the city is still in a general state of disarray, and the scars on the land aren’t soon to fade. As the Asgardians turn to picking up the pieces and the Fire Giants turn their backs on Thrymheim, Thiazi takes one last chance to strike a final blow.
Travellers outside of the city will be able to see a blinding flash of blue light and the sound of steel clashing as her petty cheap shot is knocked aside by Surt; those inside the city will hear a massive explosion to the southeast of the city. Upon inspection, they will find a massive wave of obsidian ice cascading over a near mile-stretch of the forests between Asgard and Utgard. The ice swells and splinters in crude crystals sharp as knives, slicing its way through the Gate of Fog as though it were only air. The majority of the wall along Heimdall district will be shadowed by this colossal ice structure, and the Gate will be completely destroyed as the pathway to Utgard is lost beneath this brutal magic.
The ice cannot be manipulated by Odin’s House Powers, melted by traditional means, and is roughly the strength of diamond when attempted to be broken away. Any foolish enough to touch it without proper protection will receive immediate mild frostbite that can’t be cured by any magical means and must heal naturally. Those that were around during the Bad Moon Rising event may recognise it; it is the same dark ice that was given to some of the Corrupted in place of their God Powers. It is the mark of Thiazi’s most corrupt magic - and for now, it is impenetrable.
Thanks to the combined efforts of the Travellers and their quick thinking, most of the city will be left intact and both Giant forces will leave heavily weakened, but the same can’t be said for the rest of Yggdrasil. Her land has been burnt, shredded, and frozen, and it may just be that her children have never been more isolated. The war is shifting and changing. The time to act may yet come soon.

Ellie | All Days | Open
Growth is probably the least useful power Ellie could possibly have right now. Even so, as the threat moves ever closer, she's pulled out the armor from the battle at Alfheim, a heat-resistant metal vest with reinforcements over her neck, shoulders, arms and heart.
Bow slung across her back, she makes her way to the walls to try to provide cover and any last-minute supplies for the people leaving to spread confusion through the ranks of the giants.
Anyone going outside the city may pass by her; if they do, she'll rush up to them and press a small package into their hands -- it's clean bandages, a roll of tape, and two or three large leaves of aloe vera. There is a complete seriousness to how she holds herself, some barely restrained, crackling energy she's struggling to contain.
She wants to go, but she's going to be more useful here.
"If you get burned, break open the leaves and put the leaf gunk right on it. It'll help."
424: The Walls
The attacks raining down have started to buckle the walls of the city itself. The fissures are the greatest threat, second only to the fire and shattering ice. Yawning gaps in the earth swallow the buildings closest to the edge, and rubble in the districts make impassable deathtraps of once-familiar streets.
All day, Ellie has been finding fissures, finding people trapped in wreckage and fleeing flames.
Growth has a place here.
Stepping up to the side of one of the one of the fissures, Ellie clenches her fists at her sides, starting at one end and beginning to draw it out.
Ellie rarely has cause to use her powers at full strength, but she does now. Beneath her feet, roots burrow and tunnel beneath the earth, interweaving and crackling across the fissures, stitching the land back together. It forms a temporary bridge, a path for those wounded and trapped to follow.
As she works, another ice fissure slams into the wall, sending chunks of rock hurtling through the air. Before the debris can hit her -- or anyone standing nearby, Ellie shoves a fist at the air, reflexively blocking. Roots explode from the center of the newly-created bridge, spreading to deflect the worst of the blast.
Thankfully, she's blocked the worst of the debris, but she's clearly getting fed up with this.
"Motherfucking Thiazi, calm your shit-!" she gasps out, and starts to cough violently.
424
There's a gasp, about to warn Ellie when she sees the debris flying, but Ellie takes care of it before she can even call out, instinctively. She's relieved to have her friend nearby, unsure what she would have been able to do to stop it herself.
And then there's the swearing. Of course. But Clementine can't help giggling through her own coughing at that. It's. Just typical Ellie and sums up the situation pretty well, really. Things really are going to.....well. Shit right about now. Damage over multiple Districts and everything.
"You okay?" she asks, most important rather than really acknowledging the swearing or telling her off for it. Clementine can't talk now, it'd be hypocritical where there are moments when she herself swears.
no subject
"Yeah, sure." Ellie laughs too, putting her hands on her hips to look back at her, cracking a smile. "What about you, none of it got you, right?"
She peeks under her hat, getting glimpse and looking for signs of blood. Clementine's developing an unsettlingly familiar habit of not always telling Ellie when something hurts.
no subject
"I'm okay. But we better be careful...." There's no blood, nothing other than the usual cuts she already had on her cheek, chin and neck from back home. Even if there was something wrong, Clementine can't heal herself. It's the one downside to Sigyn's Healing. But Ellie is right. There are times when Clementine won't bother to speak up about something when she knows there are more important things to worry about. Like basically completely missing on her ninth birthday in the midst of the walker outbreak while with Lee and the rest.
no subject
Ellie shifts, and reaches into her backpack, finding the aloe vera leaves. She breaks one open, smudges some of the sap from inside on one of the tiny cuts on Clem's cheek.
"Not as good as washing it out, but. Don't want it getting infected, either."
no subject
"It's fine, Ellie...."
But clearly the other girl worries regardless of what she says. A lot of people do that. Not just Ellie. Clementine was thinking she meant broken bones or something serious when she was asking if Clem was hurt, not pathetic scratches. Still, she doesn't bother to stop Ellie, just standing there until she is done.
no subject
Tough as nails, but still a little girl.
She wonders if this is what Joel must feel when he looks at her. She definitely remembers how it was when she pulled out that gun. Ellie's smile slips away, making way for something tired, and a little haunted.
She recognizes that look in Clem's eyes now. She's not a little girl who will be comforted by somebody bandaging up her hurts, hugging her and telling her it's okay. Not anymore. Ellie's voice rings with a terrible sort of understanding when she finally speaks.
"... you did some shit while you gone, huh?"
Not saw. Did. You don't get that look in your eyes from loss. You get it from sacrifice.
no subject
She's not going to deny it. She can't. It's just almost surprising it has taken anyone this long to realize, to really click, even if Clementine hasn't been the most forthcoming with talking about the shit back home she's been through. The things she has done that she never anticipated doing, would never have approved of two years back when the outbreak with the walkers started. Everything has changed. She lost her childhood the day the walkers came, the day they bit her babysitter and she helped Lee kill her. The day in the jewelery store with him. Ever since then she has been so much more....jaded. Bitter and cynical, and she knows it. Knows how much she's changed. She's had to, to survive this long.
"Everyone has. I had to. You have no idea what I've done."

There was a broken-horned, sweaty, inhuman... thing. He was scrawling quickly on paper and downing a yellow looking potion. Supplies were forming next to him from the paper repeatedly, clearly designed for wall repair.
...this might be a bit bigger than he can handle on his own.
no subject
"You okay? You're looking kinda... peaky."
Yeah, she knows the symptoms of power-exhaustion too well.
no subject
"I am acceptable," he said, shaking his head. "I have been abusing this substance for a considerable number of solar cycles. I am aware of exactly how much I can create before support is required or I will drop in exhaustion."
...he probably did know how much he could handle. He'd dropped a few times. However, his attitude towards that wasn't exactly healthy.

424!
Ellie, shit--
[No obvious injuries, but that cough's a worry. Ryan fumbles in the bag slung over his shoulder for water and presses the bottle into her hands (and depending on how much attention she pays to the less pressing matters, now or later she might notice he's now sporting a ring on one of his own hands.)]
--here. Sounds like you could use it. Couldn't hurt to get your face covered a bit either, dust'll get to you.
no subject
But hell, it's been a few days and she's still coughing up the gunk the fire left in her lungs.]
S'not this, smoke inhalation. Sucks, but I'm okay. Thanks.
[The ring doesn't register for what it is. Ellie has never lived in a society that observes such things, but she does notice.]
What's that? New weapon?
[They could carve some runes into something like that. Easily.]
no subject
Normal jewelry- but that's actually not a bad idea, y'know? I think Henry'd probably appreciate something like that, god knows I'm still not that great with a sword anyway.
[Ryan holds the bandana up, gesturing for her to let him tie it as he adds-]
Extra protection. If you've already got smoke bothering you it won't help to just inhale more shit.
no subject
People who liked to hide their face. Grimacing, she takes it and ties it over her nose and mouth, tucking the end into her shirt. If the fires get closer, it'll be invaluable.]
Thanks. Have they got you on duty? Doing anything?
no subject
[There's a faint grin on his face as he re-clasps his bag closed, settling the strap back into a comfortable position. With that done he gives Ellie another look-over, checking for obvious injuries-- but it's really more out of habit than expectation to find anything. She seems fine, and she's making herself useful. He doesn't intend to drag her away unless it's necessary, and so his attention quickly shifts to keeping an eye out.]
Healers are mostly busy with actual injuries, people with more applicable powers are out using them-- someone's got to try to make sure they don't overdo it, right?
no subject
Maybe because she knows something similar. So when Ryan looks back at her, she's grinning at him knowingly from behind the cloth, green eyes dancing.]
What happened? You're really happy.

Bruce points out, at her side just a moment later. He's been mostly working on suppressing the flames with his power, but can certainly stop for a moment to help her to her feet, make sure she isn't badly hurt.
no subject
She knows Bruce. He's been kind to her. But communicators vs. the battlefield is a little different, and her paranoia's running high. She smiles, attempting to reassure him. This is just how it is, with her.
In person she's tinier, all freckles and huge eyes, skinny through the shoulders even in her armor. Bristling with weapons.
"S'cool, it's just the smoke." Her voice sounds scratchy, and she takes her eyes deliberately off him, towards the gap.
"What are you doing all the way out here?" And then, eagerly- "Can you help?"
no subject
Pulling a ball of it into his hand, the way he'd manufactured a sword for her inspection when they'd been training to go help the elves.
"I'm still at mostly full power, but I'm trying to use this judiciously. If any of them get too close to us I want to be able to take them down, and freezing a fire giant is a real kick in the teeth. Do you want some water?"
Reaching for a bottle, almost absently.
no subject
"I'll bet," she grins, and at the offer, holds her hand out with a nod. She's never one to turn down help.
"Sure, thanks. ... never coughed up all that smoke, I guess."
