It may be the entire idea of death - the idea of a pseudo-immortality is most likely an uncommon concept. Ergo, an image of a loved one's death is still subconsciously a permanent concept. [ That's what Laurent guesses, anyway. He personally doesn't see the point of crying if they're definitely coming back. ]
