maybe she didn't catch on before, or maybe she did and ignored it, but the dragonlet finally decides to catch on to ash's hints about terezi. what's wrong, she wonders, turning her nose toward his hand. she isn't a simple girl, my little terezi, the young dragon warns, in a tone of one who is young but still has known she's a mother for sweeps, of one who pitied and hand-picked a wiggler of her own from the brooding caverns, who protected that wiggler with her psychic energy and led her to her forest where she could always be nearby, where she could always be protected until such a time should come when her little one would be out of her reach.

any warning indications ash feels are not accidental. she smells his reluctance and his sullenness and she respects them, but never before her precious baby.
