When Ash starts running Kieran closes his eyes to avoid getting motion sick, yes, but keeps the feed on to hear. He finds that he even recognizes the way Ash breathes, and is comforted by the sound to the point that when they're in telepathic range it startles him. Even that weak echo of what they should have is overwhelming, and Kieran can't manage a coherent reply. It's a clumsy rush of relief and 'hurry the fuck up' as he sits down on the front steps of the hall and waits, telling himself he's only weak because of the hangover.

When Ash spots him, it'll be pretty clear that unlike him, Kieran has not only just arrived. He's clean and well fed, his clothes fit him, and rather than the exhaustion they dealt with at home he just looks sleep deprived.
