Entry tags:
open - backdated fairy hunting
Who:
Lightning + anyone.
What: Tragically backdated ice fairy shenanigans, hunting down the stragglers left over from most already being taken down.
When: D40, AKA back when the event was still going on. /// Late-afternoon to night.
Where: Heimdall, Freyr, and/or Freya districts.
Rating: No worse than PG13.
[ Even with most of the ice-beings now taken out, sanity would generally dictate staying inside-- that attempting to avoid trouble would be the wisest choice. However, like many here, the last thing on Lightning's mind is just doing nothing while the city remains even the slightest bit overrun by any kind of threat.
Therefore, after some brief rest from the previous day, the woman's taken to wandering, in layered clothing and with heavy weapon in hand. It's that odd limbo between afternoon and evening, and with the overcast skies and relatively empty streets, the darkened and somewhat lonely effect is only increased. However, in a way that sort of suits her, and she remains mostly sticking to the long shadows between buildings as she looks, listening very carefully for any sounds of movement- whether it be from monster, fellow traveller, or an unwise native lingering where they shouldn't belong.
Tired as she is, she still remains very much ready for a fight. After the last month, being yanked around through time and the effects of complete unpredictability, she could really use the distraction.
Plus, if they can get rid of the last few of these 'visitors,' then they won't have to worry about the less battle-inclined people going out into the streets again. There's really little other choice here. ]

Still, he steps in when he sees natives under attack. Even if he doesn't know what the hell to think of them, they're still people (probably) and haven't done anything he knows of to deserve this mess. So he can be spotted in Freyr, using the broad side of the Buster sword to bat a couple of stray faeries away from him and a gray person before charging in after one. ]

She stops, straightens, and looks right at him. Does she say anything, though? Well... of course not. ]
no subject
With a heavily frosted-up weapon, no less. Do something? ]

-- Get inside!
[ Seriously- why are those guys even out here? Seeing them, whether Cloud likes it or not, Lightning's stepping in- though just to put herself in between the unlucky natives and the main part of the impromptu confrontation, for now. She just waits for an opening or some indication that the man could use a hand ASAP, if necessary. ]

So he's rushing up behind one of those things and slamming his staff into it's back, knocking it away from the woman.] Need some help?
no subject
You're back? [ The lack of powers has Cloud breathing heavier than he usually would, but the question itself still comes off nonchalant. He hasn't seen her... for a while.
Also, while he's having no trouble defending himself and chipping away at the faeries, this could definitely be sped up. With two of them, he's having difficulty pinning one in enough to just cleave it as he'd want to. ]

It would appear the enemies' ranks have begun to thin for good.
[ Said dryly, despite the sort of fancy wording there. Considering he's out and about, she assumes he's probably got the same idea as her. ]
no subject
Well, Evened Odds is a pretty useful Paradigm...Of course, she hadn't really been expecting someone else - and even if she's learned to ditch the lone wolf approach, she's also far too used to by now the concept of fighting all by herself with much higher stakes than her own well-being. Regardless: ]Can't say I'd turn it down.
[ Her tone is flat, gaze flicking over to the newcomer only briefly, wasting no time. With the one knocked away, she sidesteps neatly, swiftly snapping her weapon out to the side before it's arcing through the air in front of her once again, meeting the body of the other fairy with a sharp crack. ]
no subject
[ As equally nonchalant, of course. Right now's not the time for details.
But as for what to do here... Lightning's got an idea or two, albeit they're complicated by just not knowing the finer points of what Cloud can do too. And well... the lack of her own proper powers. Being able to control gravity would be awfully nice here. ]
I'm assuming you won't be offended if I take care of one of these for you.
[ Because she's already trying to pull in the attention of at least one, circling around to put both fairies in between them. Even if they have to just fight them one on one and then team up on whichever is left, that's still faster and less effort. ]
no subject
[ It's not outright sarcasm, but maybe someone hasn't totally forgotten that bit about his sword being useless when he got here. Still, he's matching Lightning's effort to pin both faeries between them. It is more effective this way. ]

Plus a gun at a time like this didn't hurt at all. In fact, the gun could probably be heard going off as Gippal took down two of the ice fairies with it.]
These things aren't gonna make it easy to get back to my house.

She doesn't dignify his comments with an answer, aside from taking it as confirmation enough to not back off (if she even would, though that too is beside the point). The fairy closest to her lashes out, but she counters with an offensive blow of her own that lands with a crack to its arm-- and then immediately strikes out at the other, too. The way she sees it, if she can get both fairies turned and paying attention to her by way of simply never letting up on the aggression, then maybe that big hunk of metal Cloud is still insisting on dragging around can be put to use in simply smashing both to pieces in one go. ]
no subject
indeed it is.He brings his staff around, hitting the head of the stunned fairy he had knocked away hard with a rather sickening sound, doing a decent amount of damage with the headshot. He's strong enough, that much is certain.]It'll go quicker, that much is certain.
no subject
Anyway. That plan works for Cloud and yes, that big hunk of metal has been put to use plenty. Let 'em get penned in a little more and when the time is right, he'll drop the Buster sword on both of them. ]
s-sorry
Even if it means she has to resort to bladework-only and blunt force because of it... ]
No kidding.
[ She approaches the man but doesn't get too close right away; although she's assessed the situation the instant after she's seen it, she holds back. Fighting monsters is one thing, but dealing with other people who have already engaged them can be a tricky business... especially when they've got a gun. ]
no subject
She remains unusually swift as she continues her assault on "her" fairy, the only issue that's apparent the way dodging its counter attack is harder on chilled ground when it's not what she's used to. All the same, the tables have certainly turned... unless something goes wrong it won't be long now until both enemies are no more. ]
no subject
And again, ruthlessly, until it's not moving at all any more. Yeah, so she's pretty sick of these stupid things already- who isn't? ]
no subject
yeah okay she's playing whack-a-faerie. She's fine. He'll just put his sword back in the magnetic holder on his back and cast a look about to see if any more are coming. ]
They're almost finished.
no subject
Yes.
[ But she doesn't sound particularly optimistic, and doesn't really look at Cloud himself. Instead she looks down the street, raising a hand to shield her pale eyes despite it not being all that bright, even with the light bouncing off the snow and ice around them. ]
More could show up.
no subject
He doesn't let up the assault, and it might seem rather brutal, but he is taking out the face first. Better to keep it occupied then risk injury.]
