Stefan's been in Asgard two weeks, he's already gone on a field trip, settled into his room, and somewhat adjusted to life here. He says somewhat because he isn't entirely sure that there is a way to completely adjust to not being a fully powered vampire with all the bonus features anymore, at least not overnight, but he's managing. Somewhat.

A lot of this is still really weird.

All the same, he has Elena and he has Damon, and that at least is a start in that respect. The weird Elijah guy seems to be gone, which is something of a relief. It still nags at him all the same, implying that there's a way he can still be compelled - his mind still isn't his own, even as a vampire, but he's letting it go for now. The man isn't here, so for the most part, he doesn't have to deal with it. What he does have to deal with, however, is finding a job.

Stefan is a man of assorted skills and talents. He's got several college degrees, been to high school five separate times (for reasons he's not entirely sure of), but he's never held a job a day in his long, long life, so things like building a resume or going to interviews? Not something he has a whole wealth of experience with. But he does know that people tend to go door-to-door for these things, so you can find him out and wandering most of today, poking around the business districts to see if there's anything that catches his interest.

Maybe he could find something different to learn. That could be fun.

Hel district

[climbingwalls]

Abigail can only sit quietly in her room for so long before she has to get out. There's less than nothing to do in there, and while the common areas of Hel are at least less devoid of activity, they're still inside. Sometimes she needs the fresh air. Fairly often, to be honest. She's not much of an indoors person. And there's a cafe in Hel whose owner doesn't mind non-customers sitting at the outside tables too much, and even will sometimes give a very polite broke traveler a free coffee when things are quiet.

She's sitting there watching people pass when Stefan is headed in the direction. It takes a second to recognize him outside of Hel's halls, another second to contemplate whether to say anything when he looks like he's maybe looking for something, but -- in the end, that's part of what makes the decision. She's curious. And maybe if he's looking for something specific, she can help. And, all right, maybe she's just feeling kind of like talking to someone today, whoever they might be.

"Hey," she calls as he's passing by the tables, lifting a hand to catch attention and freezing as she realizes she can't remember his name -- or actually, whether she ever got one. Whoops.

His hearing may not be as good as it used to be, but he still manages to catch that hey, and turns on his heels to find the source. It's not hard - there aren't a lot of people around, and it's especially apparent when he recognizes the girl in question. There's a small smile - familiar faces are always good when everything is new, and he nods.

"Hey." He pauses again, before pointing to himself, because yeah, he can't remember if he caught her name either. "Stefan."

She smiles, relieved if still a little awkward, and gives a little nod. "Abigail," she replies, mimicking his gesture and pointing a finger at herself as well, before crossing her arms and leaning them on the table. "How have you been? Settling in okay?"

"Well enough. This place is ... weird, to say the least, but I think I'm getting the hang of it." More or less. It would be better if he had more of an idea of what was really going on - or his actual abilities that he's used to - but that's neither here nor there.

"How are you?"

[climbingwalls]

"Weirdness is more or less a constant, I think. A little fluctuating now and then, but still. I'm, uh, glad to hear that, though."

She shrugs at the question, fiddling with her coffee. "Pretty good. More or less. A little bored," she admits, and laughs, very aware how ridiculous that is. "Trying not to think about it, because it feels like asking for trouble around here, but... most of my hobbies aren't really city things."

And now she's rambling a little. Maybe she should have just send Merope a letter, rather than sideline the relative stranger. Too late now.

Freya District

[airborn]

When Stefan chooses to enter a cosy-looking cafe called "The Safehouse" he'll be hit by the smells coming from the kitchen, the soft murmur of conversation from the cafe's patrons, and one bright voice saying "Welcome to the Safehouse. I'm Rue and I'll be your hostess!"

A glance down will give him a good look at the 12 year old standing in front of him with a smile and a couple of menus clutched to her chest.

Well, she's basically the cutest little hostess in the world, which already earns her a million brownie points. Good job, Rue. Stefan glances down with a smile, not even flummoxed by the fact that she looks like she's twelve - or even that she is twelve. To him, it's not that big a deal.

"Hi. I was just wondering if you guys were hiring."

[airborn]

"Oh!" Rue doesn't lose her smile one bit as she gets over the surprise.

"What kind of work?" She asks, while worrying her lip as she tries to remember what positions they have open. "Do you know how to cook?"

[somanyadjectives]

"I do, actually. Mostly as a hobby, but I'm pretty good." It's also mostly Italian food, but he can probably pick up a few new dishes here and there if they showed him how to make them.

Rue brightens immediately. She actually wasn't expecting him to say yes, but now that he's here and offering, maybe they'll get a chef for real this time!

"Do you want to see? We have a native helping us with the cooking sometimes, but we really need a chef."

Elena's on her way home from work herself when she bumps into him near Hel's welcome hall. Despite not being a working girl before coming here either, she doesn't mind it at all. The normality of it all is nice compared to the chaos that sometimes falls over the city, and she likes the mental break and just...talking to people.

"Hey," she says, waving at him even as she's walking over. "Where are you off to?"

He turns towards the sound of her voice with a smile, sliding his hands in his pockets as he does. Even though he knows things are complicated, it doesn't change the fact that he's always going to be happy to see her. It's Elena. Why wouldn't he be happy to see her?

"I thought I would wander around a bit. See what kind of jobs are hiring."

At least that's something they agree on. Things have been a little happier, a little brighter ever since Stefan got there. She feels selfish for feeling so glad, but she can't stop how she feels.

Her smile brightens when she sees his, and she jogs the last couple of steps.

"I'm free for the rest of the day. Do you want some company?"

She should not feel selfish. Stefan would rather be here with her than have her here alone any day of the week. Damon only counts for a half. He smiles wider when she approaches before nodding. "I would love some company. Where do yo think I should start?"

Stefan, be nice to your brother. Even if he's...not always so nice back right now. That comes with the whole timey wimey thing...

"Well, what do you think you'd like to do?"

That would be a better place to start, otherwise there's a whole host of different kinds of places, both native and traveler run.

Near Baldr

[iamaplague]

[Mitchell bumps into Stefan as he walks near Baldr, coming back home after work. When he recognizes the guy, he waves.]

Hey there!

[Stefan turns at the sound of the familiar voice, a smile crossing his face when he lays eyes on Mitchell. Oh good! Familiar face!]

Hey! It's Mitchell, right?

[iamaplague]

[Isn't it nice to see familiar faces here?]

Yeah! How you doing, Stefan? Settling in fine?

[somanyadjectives]

[Very much so, especially considering Stefan has so many that aren't.]

So far so good. I found out that my ...

[A beat.]

I actually have a friend from home living across the hall from me.

[He's trying to adjust to not referring to Elena as his girlfriend, considering "It's complicated" has just become their permanent facebook status.]

[iamaplague]

[He should make new friends.]

Oh, that's awesome! I have a few guys from home hanging around. Well, I don't remember meeting some them, but of they seem to know me.

hel district

[reaction]

"Where are you off to?" Damon hasn't lost that ability to sneak up on his brother out of nowhere, despite no longer having that ability to vamp speed about. He moves to walk in front of him, walking backwards in fact, as he waits for Stefan to answer. He's here to stalk, to bother, to annoy, and to never leave him alone. Damon's been here for a lot longer than Stefan has and at one point, he thought he'd never see his brother again, and that sort of sucked. Mostly because -- before he even got to Mystic Falls, they'd spend enough time apart. No thanks to his brother's - now very much dead - bestie, Lexi. Killing her is something he won't allow himself to regret ever.

Stefan almost wishes that Damon had lost that ability. It would make him much easier to deal with. (Even if he won't allow himself to acknowledge the fact that having his brother around is comforting - at least not yet.) In the meantime, he's just going to make a face at him when he appears out of nowhere.

"Looking for a job," he replies. "Or something to do with my time, at any rate."

[reaction]

The fact that Stefan's decided to hunt for a job doesn't surprise him at all. After all, even Elena has one. It's the right thing to do, which means it's something he'll gladly steer clear of doing.

"Didn't I tell you about the bank loan? Pretty sure I did." He's also pretty sure Stefan's not going to listen to his advice. Why would he? He's a bad brother. The worst. Except Elena's from the future and has told him a few things, and apparently he stuck around in Mystic Falls for a lot longer than he thought he ever would -- which means things can't have been that bad between them. Even if he's been a little more than friendly with Elena. She's willing to sleep in his room and all that. Clearly, there's plenty of trust between them.

Stefan makes a thoughtful noise at that, almost as though he's mulling over that consideration for a moment, before turning and pointing at him with an amused look. "The thing about bank loans is that the 'loan' part usually implies you have to pay them back."

Which you need a job with money to do, Damon. That's how the economy works.

[reaction]

"Supposing I'm still here when the time comes." He's been kicked out of the city before and Elena's been in and out three times so far. Who knows what will happen tomorrow? He's not the least bit worried about money.

"You've never had to work. All you've ever done is go to high school, go to high school, go to high school, and there was that stint in Harvard. I don't think you're qualified to be an adult, Stefan."
