Stefan's been in Asgard two weeks, he's already gone on a field trip, settled into his room, and somewhat adjusted to life here. He says somewhat because he isn't entirely sure that there is a way to completely adjust to not being a fully powered vampire with all the bonus features anymore, at least not overnight, but he's managing. Somewhat.

A lot of this is still really weird.

All the same, he has Elena and he has Damon, and that at least is a start in that respect. The weird Elijah guy seems to be gone, which is something of a relief. It still nags at him all the same, implying that there's a way he can still be compelled - his mind still isn't his own, even as a vampire, but he's letting it go for now. The man isn't here, so for the most part, he doesn't have to deal with it. What he does have to deal with, however, is finding a job.

Stefan is a man of assorted skills and talents. He's got several college degrees, been to high school five separate times (for reasons he's not entirely sure of), but he's never held a job a day in his long, long life, so things like building a resume or going to interviews? Not something he has a whole wealth of experience with. But he does know that people tend to go door-to-door for these things, so you can find him out and wandering most of today, poking around the business districts to see if there's anything that catches his interest.

Maybe he could find something different to learn. That could be fun.

Damon's all for them living together despite the awkwardness. This way they can stash their blood supplies without worrying about some random someone discovering it. The last thing they need is for someone to start screaming vampire! and then Damon's going to have a hard time feeding on the natives. (Something he still does on somewhat rare occasions.)

"I totally went back to college for the pretty gals." He had such a fun time then too. All the feeding and partying, and feeding and partying, and more feeding and partying and let's not forget all the sex he had.

"I do miss those days. Oh, wait. I can always relive it." The perks of being an eternal stud. "Maybe when we get back. Or maybe once Elena's in college. That would be fun."

"So you're just going to follow Elena for the rest of her life?" Stefan will because he loves her, so long as they're together. That isn't as much of a certainty as he once thought it was, and he's been giving Elena space to figure that out, but for the most part, he still intends to be in her life.

He honestly can't imagine him out of it.

"I'm not sure she'd be quite as fond of that idea. Kind of sounds like stalking."

[reaction]

"Maybe you don't know her as well as you think you do, Stefan. Maybe she'll like my company. Or maybe she already does." He'll let out a smug little smirk. "Elena did come running to me. Not once. Not twice..." Okay. So maybe he's exaggerating things, but he so wants Stefan to step off of his high horse. They're possibly on equal grounds now.

"Are we doomed to repeat the past, brother? Are you up for it?"

Stefan isn't even going to dignify that with a response. Or not much of one, at any rate. He gives his brother a bit of a look, before shaking his head. "No. I'm not going down that road with you again, Damon." If Elena chooses him, based on however close they've gotten while they've been here, and regarding things he doesn't remember, then he can accept that.

Probably.

After being really, really, drunk he can probably accept it.

[reaction]

"Why not? Are you really going to give up so easily?" He just likes tormenting his brother. One might say he even misses it. He thought he would never ever have the chance to see Stefan again and now he remembers exactly why he wanted to. That whole misery for eternity thing? He's going to keep that going because he can. Because he wants to. Everything else is out of his hands and out of his control. This? This is familiar. This is -- well, this is entirely selfish behavior. But Stefan deserves this. He deserves to be tormented because he wanted his older brother around and now Damon's going to make him regret it. Every second, every hour, every damn day.

"You love her. She's the reason you're feeding on bunnies. Trying to be the good guy." He gives Stefan a playful shove. Just trying to get a rise out of him. No biggie. "Come on. Don't tell me you're not upset about this whole situation." He's gotta be. His girlfriend is no longer his girlfriend. That's gotta suck.

"Elena's different, isn't she?" He lets out a low whistle. "I almost couldn't keep my hands to myself the other night."

Is he upset about this whole situation? A little, yes. But he understands it's for reasons beyond his control, and he's willing to give Elena the time to decide what she wants, because in the end, that's the only thing that matters. What Elena wants.

But he'd be lying if Damon doesn't still get under his skin. He knows what Damon's like, not just now but months down the line when Elena very pointedly kisses Stefan goodbye before they leave for Duke. He knows the way that Damon can goad at someone, and while he does his best not to let it get to him, there are times when he lashes out without really thinking things through.

(They're brothers. That's the point.)

This, unfortunately, happens to be one of those times.

He mentions putting his hands on Elena, trying to take advantage of her (it's not what he said, but it's what Stefan hears), and Stefan's reacting before he's even thinking, his fist swinging out and clocking his brother across the face.

If it connects, it's going to hurt like a bitch.

As far as he's concerned, it's worth it.

and the worst big brother award goes to...

Pain is pain. Getting punched in the face as a vampire or a human hurts either way. The only difference is that the physical pain disappears all too quickly when one is a vampire, but it's different here. The pain stays with, and then -- and then it just keeps on hurting. Damon stumbles back a few steps and almost drops to his knees but he manages to right himself. The blood seeps out of the corner of his mouth and he wipes at it with the back of his hand before whirling around to grab Stefan by his collar so he can attempt to knee his brother in the stomach before shoving him to the ground.

They're almost equally strong because it doesn't matter that he's been feeding on human blood and Stefan's been on his diet of bunnies because blood only keeps them from desiccating and it serves no other purpose. But Damon's maybe a little more angrier, a little more determined to teach his brother a lesson.

"You could have gotten rid of me, but you were always too weak to do it back home. Now come on, brother." He waits for Stefan to make his next move. "Maybe I'm done being chivalrous. Maybe tonight -- I'll take what I want. If you don't stop me..." He wouldn't lay a finger on Elena, but he is so not done messing with Stefan.

It's chance that she's walking nearby when the fighting starts, her feet pounding against the ground to try and close the distance between her and the two men in her life.

Because they're hurting each other, and she doesn't know why, and in this place they can't heal themselves the way they usually can. All it would take is for one of them to forget, to snap, and they could kill each other.

She doesn't know who started it, she doesn't know why, but she doesn't care. All she wants is for it to stop.

Elena finally gets there, planting a foot between them, trying to get a hand on each of their shoulders to push them apart. She's not strong enough, even having them without their vampire strength, but she'll sure as hell try.

"Stop! What is wrong with you two!?"

The knee in his stomach catches him hard and he lands on the ground, wind knocked out of him as he does. There's a bit of a groan and a flash of anger but before he can respond - before he can do anything about it - Elena is there and he forces himself to clamp down on the rage for now, glowering up at his brother in response.

Stefan that reaction to swing back is all too instinctive when it comes to dealing with Damon, but with Elena there, he won't run the risk of hurting her. Instead he pushes to his feet, taking a few steps back to put him out of spitting distance and shakes his head.

"He started it" seems like a petty answer, even if it's the truth.

"He was just being Damon. I think asking him might be the better question."
