between the arms of Gelion was the ward of Maglor, and here in one place the hills failed altogether

Who: Maglor, OTA
What: training, sparring, the usual~
When: This month!
Where: the Citadel
Rating: G for now~

As he is every morning, Maglor is up at the citadel - he has his own classes to teach, but more than that, he is retraining himself as well, working on trying to get as close to his elven speed as he can, relearning old skills half forgotten in the wear of wandering though two relatively peaceful Ages of the world. Care to join him?

[ ooc: consider this a catchall post for anyone who wants to do Military shenannigans this month, or you can use this to ping Mags if you need him for anything ]

[Scenario 1: Open]

Maribelle had been looking for a place to get an axe. As trustworthy as she counted her parasol, it would really do no good against any proper life-threatening situation (and honestly, the scores of bandits she'd dispatched with it didn't exactly count as life-threatening, in her considered opinion). She'd been thinking of getting an axe, but honestly, right now, she had neither the currency to buy one, nor the slightest idea of where she could get one.

She was, essentially, poor in this place. Ugh.

But she did have her parasol, and that would do for now, so she walked into the Citadel, intent on getting some training done.

[Scenario 2: Open]

She'd finished her training - at least for the moment - and she'd actually managed to avoid getting terribly disheveled. Well, she may be an essential pauper, in this place, but at least she'd maintained the poise that was proper for her station. She sat down presently, taking care to appear the epitome of grace (when really, it was tempting to sprawl over, the way Lissa did - but goodness, she wasn't about to let that happen).

Now was a time for a glass of water, or perhaps a nice cup of tea - but, lacking those, she could wait, for now.

"Oh! Good morning, Maglor!" Now, here was a gentleman with some manners. Just how were they so hard to find in this city? But never mind that. Maribelle dipped into a graceful curtsey in response to his bow, a small smily curving her lips.

"I am here for training. A lady must hone all her skills properly, mustn't she?" And believe it or not, Maribelle was a capable enough fighter. True, she wasn't exactly suited for the front lines, what with her delicate frame that was all too frail in close quarters, but she was brave and dedicated, and her talent for resisting magic was certainly nothing to sneeze at. She could only hope she'd kept that skill here, even if she could no longer cast.

Smiling, Maribelle takes his arm. "Why, thank you," she replies. "I do try my best." And boy, does she ever - maintaining her hair alone takes up a decent chunk of her morning, to say nothing of her training. "Alas, I lack the tomes I prefer here, but I have been thinking of getting a proper weapon for now, when I have the means." Meaning when she has money that doesn't have to go towards living and the war effort. Really, she's not used to being poor, and it grates more than a little.

"For now, I have my parasol." And she could be surprisingly deadly with it, when need be.

"A scholar? I'm afraid not. I am a caster." Specifically, she's a caster that utilizes healing and offensive magics. "As for fencing, I've hardly been able to do that. I much prefer my books to anything within close range - but I would not be averse to learning the skill." Honestly, her skills with her parasol are fairly similar to fencing, anyway - it wouldn't be that much of a stretch for her. She would, however, need a proper weapon before things go even further south than they already have. It was something to think about.

"How lovely, and how generous of you to offer. I shall think gratefully upon it." She couldn't dream of imposing further - at least, not right now.

Goodness. Just how many worlds lacked spell casters? "I use magic more often than physical combat," she explains, "though I am adept at using my parasol to fend off ruffians." Actually, she's dispatched several bandits with it, and even uses it during her nightly training with Spike.

She examines the rapier, looking it over carefully. "Why, that will do nicely. Thank you."

Oh, thank goodness. He came from a world with magic. Frankly, Maribelle could not understand how these outsiders could get along without it. Then again, she's just as much of an outsider as nearly everyone else here.

She smiles at the offer, and nods. "I gladly accept, sir. However, I'm wholly unfamiliar with a rapier. Would you mind helping me to use it?" She is a fast learner, true, but hardly an immediate one.

Maribelle gave Maglor a grateful nod, setting her things aside. "Well, then," she started, examining the blade again. "Shall we begin?" There was so very much to do, after all, and such little time to do it... and Maribelle was not about to waste what time she had.

Holding the rapier is, in fact, rather like holding the parasol. It is heavier, though, and (of course) more deadly, but Maribelle's confident she could learn to use it. She listens to his explanation, taking in what she could.

And then she takes her own position, holding the blade much like she does her parasol. This will take some getting used to.

Same. XD

Maribelle watches the way the other adjusts the blade, paying close attention. After all, she doesn't want to look like a complete fool in front of her new teacher, does she? She nods at the explanation and takes a position, using one she's learned during her parasol lessons when she was a young girl.

And she manages to dodge, swinging the blade a bit clumsier than she would like to.

Naturally, Maribelle has been taught well. And she knows how to dance, which makes it easier to maintain her balance. She gives a single nod, to show she has heard, and moves around him, only barely managing to dodge. She spies what appears to be an opening and goes for it, her gaze intense.

She's careful with the blade - but not too much. She knows she'll have to take risks if she ever wants to get anywhere, and she's not afraid of getting her hands dirty. She gives Maglor a nod, coming at him again, the other parrying her neatly this time.

"Naturally, darling," she replied. She was well aware of her talents, and how finely honed they'd been. But that had been with her parasol, not a rapier, and it was incredibly obvious how new she was to this. She steps back at her newest teacher's warning, her steps not quite matching his, but with a grace and fire all their own.

Maribelle was panting as they finished, feeling sore and sweaty and very much in need of a bath - but satisfied with the progress they had made. "Why, yes," she answered, straightening herself up and brushing her hair - now a touch more disheveled than she would have liked it to be - away from her shoulders before moving to return the rapier.

She would have to acquire one of her own, if she could manage it. "Thank you for your help."
