[closed] ladies with an attitude.

Who: Kanaya and Nakama
What: Kanaya is eager to show an aspiring designer some of her work.
When: Day 77
Where: Freyr house, eventually in Kanaya's room.
Rating: G!

[ finally meeting people that were interested in the same things she were - namely fashion - was a much appreciated breath of fresh air for Kanaya. considering that most trolls thought fashion was stupid and the humans on the meteor weren't too interested in it either, she hasn't had anyone to really share her work and ideas with until now. seeing a budding young seamstress like Nakama is making her feel like a mentor of sorts. she'd love to teach the human what she knows.

so around the time that they decided on the day before, Kanaya is in the Freyr sitting room waiting for her guest to arrive. she's brought a pocket mirror to adjust her black lipstick as she waits - one must look their best in the presence of visitors, after all. ]

[When Nakama enters, she's a bit surprised by the sight of Kanaya - with the other trolls, she hasn't thought of their looks at all because they're so different from humans, but - she can't deny that Kanaya is pretty. Still vaguely unsettling in all the ways trolls are to someone who's not used to their looks, but surely pretty for her kind.

She adjusts the strap on her work bag and walks in, ignoring the prickling at the back of her neck - she's getting better and better at fighting off the urge to leave other God Houses. She's dressed for the occasion, because although dresses make her uncomfortable, this seems like a time when one is necessary.]

Hi... Kanaya?

[The quick once-over makes her nervous, but she seems to pass the test, so she lets out a silent breath of relief and bows shallowly.]

Mako Nakarai. Most of my friends call me Nakama, though, so you can if you want.

Oh - yes! I've got it right here.

[She sets her bag down on a nearby chair and hunts out her uniform, complete with shoes. An experienced designer will immediately see that it's just a fairly simple dress with pieces tacked on to give it a more dramatic look, but the seam work is solid, and it's certainly an interesting piece.]

Like I said, I didn't have the money for new fabric at the time, so I was mostly working with scraps. My later uniforms were better, but I made mine first, so...

Oh... [She smiles, pleased, her cheeks heating up.] Thank you. I wish I had one of the later ones to show you, from when I actually had fresh fabric...

... but, um, I'd love to see what you've done.

I know what it's like when you're working. You get so into it you forget about everything else. [In other words, it's okay. She moves slowly into the room, examining the drawings carefully.]

Gosh, you're really talented. If my designs came out the way I drew them, they'd be a mess. I'm not much good at the sketching part, but I know what I mean, you know?
whatagoodgirl: ([shy] are you sure?)

Where did you learn to do this? Did you just teach yourself?
whatagoodgirl: ([distant] on a wing and a prayer.)

That must be hard. [She fingers the edge of a design paper, not wanting to get her hands on the actual drawing and smudge it.] My mom taught me how to sew. We didn't always have a lot of money, but she needed fancy dresses, so she just made her own. When I was ten, she asked if I wanted to learn, so I did. By eleven I was taking in sewing and making money for the family.
