Kate just finished up with an interview when she noticed Castle standing off to the side. She told him to stop by the crime scene, and he had expected him to come, but she hadn't yet had the chance to talk to Conan about getting Castle involved with the team. That meant he couldn't quite yet get inside the metaphorical tape. Yet. So instead she made her way over to him after thanking the person she had been interviewing.

"Castle." She checked her notebook for a moment, reviewing the 'facts' she had managed to collect before closing it. She smiled. "Glad you could make it."
