[She hasn't quite got Nill's language down yet, so just to make sure:]

Both, or hot cocoa? Um... hold up your fingers again if you mean both, and nod for hot cocoa.

[ ah, realizing that her sign language is not very clear, she flushes self-consciously. however, she lowers her hand and nods in response to the other's words. ]

Sorry, Nill. [Trying to make it clear that it's not her fault.] I'm sure I'll get used to this. It's me who's never been around someone who can't talk before.

[She leads the way into the kitchen, pulling out a chair for Nill first, then taking a folded piece of paper out of her cloak pocket and laying it out almost like a placemat. It's a layout of the keyboard on their bracelets, just as she promised, only in a larger scale.]

This is for later, don't worry about it until we've had our drinks. But this is what you'll use to memorize where the keys are, so you can type without having to look.

[ she shakes her head at the girl's first comment, complimenting her gesture with frantic hand movements-- it isn't your fault, either! oh, but how can she make it clear to the other girl...

it's why when the girl pulls out the layout of the keyboard, her face lights up in a sign of relief. she's here to make her language skills better... so that she'd be able to tell people things like it's not their fault, or that she'd like to try the cocoa, please. nodding her thanks, she sits down on the chair and stares at the layout with wide eyes, wings perking up with anticipation.

typing without having to look...? she doesn't think she can do it-- it sounds so hard! she places a finger on the mat, and mimes poking at each key. it's how she usually types... ]

[While Nill does that, Nakama bustles around the kitchen getting the cocoa prepared, heating milk (it's always better with milk) and getting out supplies. Her natural urge is to talk to fill the silence, but when Nill can't reply, that doesn't seem fair somehow. So she stays silent for the time being, stirring the milk and watching it carefully so that it doesn't get too hot.

Then, once it's ready, she mixes in the cocoa and sugar and tastes her own to make sure it's good. Not too bitter, not too sweet. She carries a mug over to Nill and sets it down in front of her, then sits down beside her and watches her work.]

Eventually, you can learn to type with all your fingers. It's a lot quicker.

[ after a while, she looks up curiously to watch nakama bustle around the kitchen in preparation. she she recognizes the milk, takes in the ingredients needed, and wonders if she'll ever be able to make the same thing. when nakama comes back bearing the mug, her wings perk up and she nods and smiles her thanks, tilting her head. then, poking at the keyboard some more...

oh, but when nakama speaks again, her face morphs into a look of surprise. holding up all of her fingers and wiggling them! she'll use all her fingers? a pause. then, wiggling her thumbs in particular. even her thumbs? ]

[That's just too adorable to keep Nakama from giggling, but she's obviously not laughing at Nill. She pulls up her display on her bracelet, then types out a message to Nill, using proper home row method and her thumb for the spacebar.]

See what I mean?

[ !!! she leans in to watch nakama type, her eyes wide with wonder. she's using all her fingers! like a... a spider, or something! and they're moving so quickly-- and that message came out so quickly too--

just. all the awe, here. eyes shining, she looks from nakama's fingers and back to her own, before resolutely turning to her own little bracelet keypad. trying to type.... with more than one finger...

the only thing she succeeds in is to use a different finger for each key, but the placement is arbitrary and her going is possibly even slower. ]

really fast!!

[Grinning, she closes off her screen again.]

It just takes practice, that's all. I've been learning it in school since I was a kid. But first of all, try your hot cocoa.

[ nodding here and bolstered by nakama's grin, she closes her bracelet, too, before turning to her mug. carefully wrapping her fingers around the side of the mug-- nakama did say hot cocoa is a warm drink, so she must be careful with it-- she first tests its warmth before picking up the mug.

then, taking a small sip. the steam curls around her face-- !!! it's sweet! looking up to the other girl with her eyes shining like stars. it's so good! ]

It's nice, isn't it? [Nill really is so much like Namine - simple things please her so much, it makes Nakama feel like she's rediscovering them for the first time, too.] Tea is good for some things, but I find hot cocoa comforting for some reason.

[ she nods, again, holding the mug close to her. it really is comforting... it's very warm, and it makes her warm on the inside, too. she takes another sip and savours how sweet it is. she hasn't had many sweets, really, and she's starting to understand why they say it's a luxury.

looking up to see nakama watching her, she tilts her head and smiles a little. then, gesturing with a slight bob of her head-- you should drink yours, too! before it gets cold, because it really is very nice when it's warm... ]

Oh - of course. Thanks, Nill. [She takes a sip of her own, feeling any last remnants of her earlier chill creep away. She's happy that she can help people discover things, even little things like chocolate or a kitchen - it's another gift this strange place has given her.

She has so many questions she wants to ask Nill - what sort of world do you come from? Were you treated alright? Did everyone have wings there? - but communication with her is so hard, and she doesn't want to trouble the girl. So she tries to think of yes and no questions first.]

Are wings like that common where you come from?

[ at nakama's question, she gets an instinctive burst of anxiety. it expresses itself in the form of the perking of her wings and the nervous dart of her eyes-- she puts down her mug before she spills it and tilts her head. it used to be that people who expressed interest in her wings were all about taking her away to a bad place and causing trouble for her friends. but here, she's slowly starting to learn that some people were just curious.

therefore she flaps her wings slowly, a soothing up-and-down motion, before shaking her head slowly. it's a partial answer. she's never seen anyone who's like her before-- apparently, wings like hers were very rare, but there were many people out there who had other appendages. like ears, or tails.

to answer nakama's question, she takes out her bracelet keypad again. self-consciously typing these words-- ]

[Oh, she's asked the wrong question. She's about to apologise when her bracelet shows the message, and she nods nervously.]

Sorry if that was personal, Nill. I've just never seen a person with wings before.

[ she shakes her head here, vigorously, to show that she wasn't offended. she's sure that you were just curious! that's okay! she types again, finger stumbling over the letters-- ]

[She gets a chill right down her spine at that.]

No, no, you don't have to tell me. It's okay.

[ o-oh. guess that wasn't reassuring. she shakes her head again, distressed at nakama's distress. ]

Well... this isn't such a bad place. So you'll be alright here. [She wants to pat her hand, her shoulder, something, but Nill is so twitchy. So she just smiles gently and takes a sip of her cocoa.]

Just let me know when you're done and I'll show you a few things about typing. And if you want to ask me anything that's not too hard to type, you can.

[ she nods, here, gratefully. turning off her bracelet and lifting her mug off the table, she takes another few sips, before getting down to the business of draining her mug. it's not good to waste! and besides, it tastes too good to waste-- should couldn't even imagine anyone not wanting to drink this beverage to the last drop.

it's after a length of strangely comfortable silence (at least to nill, who is used to silence) that she finishes her mug. placing the cup back on the table, she smiles broadly at nakama. a nod and thumbs-up! it was delicious!

... she seems to have acquired a hot cocoa-mustache in the meantime. yep. ]

[When she's done, she looks back to Nill and blinks, her expression serious. She's not one to make fun of people, especially shy ones.]

Nill, you've got... a bit on your upper lip.

[ ??? the most quizzical look. she reaches with a hand to rub at her mouth a little. then, looking back at nakama. um, is it gone?

most of the milk mustache is gone, yes. ]

There's still a bit - can I do it? [She knows how skittish Nill is, so she keeps her hand a good distance away, armed with a napkin.]
