[This is a general open log for the Thunderous Voices event!

You are welcome to assume friendliness from the elves, though they are mostly very polite people. They won't be overly rowdy or rude but they aren't uptight, either. They will trade for medical supplies and any sort of cool clockwork trinkets you can think of, so feel free to get creative! If you think it might be challenging the tech level rules, please ask the mods before assuming an item is OK. Also, their herbs and whatnot as the same as could be gotten in Utgard, but they do have more of the healing flowers from the Spring Party!

Beyond that, you're welcome to explore any of the things we've listed in the linked post above. The elves will not give information about the alliance and the war. It isn't their business to do so, so any info they give is not likely to be something previously unobtainable ICly. They'll also talk about their home, which is described briefly in the world info faq here. They'll speak of it being harmonious with nature and will not take kindly to any less than environmentally friendly things done in front of them. They also won't take anything not 100% environmentally safe in trade. They'll take Runes, though!

Nakama is surprised by the touch, and she wishes she had the abiility to acknowledge it somehow, but that mech is haunting her too deeply.

"It's not that... I just - I don't like mecha." She actually glares at it, as though it's personally offended her, then turns away with her arms wrapped around her middle.

"What kinds of herbs did you get?" This is the conversation of whiplash topic changes. They will, they will keep it happy.

"Fire Blossoms and a lot of other herbs I would normally get from Utgard. It's helpful to have them now instead of later this week," she said, nodding towards one of the sprigs she had in a small satchel over her arm. "The wolfnettle is probably going to be what gets the most use early on. It's supposed to help with protecting against curses. Not sure how potent it really is, though."

What was a mecha?

"Protecting against curses? Really?" To her credit, she manages to look politely interested rather than dubious. "Do you think it would work against a god's curse, though?"

"That's one of the reasons I'm not sure yet on its potency," she said, shaking her head and looking it over. "These plants could stave it off or halt it entirely, or do nothing against a god's games. There's really only one way to find out."

"But the curses are so random. Barely any of them hit everyone at once. How would you test it?

Well, most likely it will be if someone comes in afflicted by a curse, asking for help. Early on, that sort of testing is the best option that's available, and even then it's going to e a little hit and miss at best to start. Really, most things with Alchemy are kind of that way as is.

"Oh, so it can actually stop it mid-curse?" She blinks in surprise. "Not just ward it off before it hits?"

"We don't know just yet. I know Euri and I are working with this stuff, but there's no way to be sure about it entirely," she said, shaking her head. "So it's at least worth testing."

"Doesn't the uncertainty ever bother you? Or... is it more like excitement for you, seeing what will have what effect?"

"Excitement, definitely excitement. One of the things I used to love doing back home was tasting random things mom had us working with," she said, laughing and grinning a little too broadly. "Most of them couldn't really hurt me, but I got a bit of a sense for what they were supposed to do whenever I did that. Mixing new combinations was always fun."

"I guess I can understand that." She nods thoughtfully. "When I start on a project I've never done before, I'm always a bit nervous about how it'll turn out, but I'm excited too."

"That's basically how I feel right now. Having this gives me something to concentrate on," she said, smirking. "It helps me feel... less out of place to have something that I can do, something that's very me."

Nakama smiles and nods, understanding completely. It's one of the many reasons she ran herself into the ground making uniforms for her fellow pilots - it was something she could do, something that was very her, to leave behind after she couldn't help them physically anymore.

"Does having distractions and things to concentrate on help...?" With your other side, she wants to say, but they're in public. Even though Samantha seems to talk about it rather freely, it still feels impolite. Hopefully she'll understand what Nakama means.

She did seem to catch the implication and glanced to the side. "Yes... and no. It helps because I'm not really thinking about sex when I'm doing it. I don't know that it helps in terms of the times I can't predict," she said, grunting. "It helps with other, more basic things at the very least so there's that."

Nakama is continually surprised by how maturely Samantha treats her. It's one of the reasons they've hit it off, at least on her side. Very few other people would talk about sexual thoughts so frankly with her, and after what she heard at home from her mom, she can handle that kind of language.

"You mean when you're taken over completely." She looks away sadly. "You're in a place with representatives from thousands of worlds now. I'm sure there'll be a way to stop that from happening."

"That... that can't actually happen," she said, shaking her head and swallowing hard. She walked to a nearby tree and shook her head. "It's been hard to accept, but my father isn't here, and I haven't heard the voices anymore. Much as I shudder to admit this, that is never going to be a danger. It is just the occasional boiling of my blood, like some twisted Ms. Hyde."

"Oh... I'm sorry. I don't really understand how it all works." Nakama hangs her head a little. "I didn't mean to upset you."

"I barely know either. I know my blood gets riled up, but ... losing control completely and never coming back... that was my father's goal," she said, shrugging noncommittally. There was no point in hiding it now. "At least that's what one of the voices told me. I don't... I really don't like talking about them, so I don't which means that you don't have any reason to know this. They're all very insane, after all. Just dealing with my Ms Hyde moment's is bad enough."

"You don't have to talk about any of this if you don't want to," she assures Samantha in a frantic rush. "It's none of my business anyway."

"True... really, all that matters is I'm unstable, but if I ever go completely evil it would only be because I chose to. You don't need to pull punches because it's not my fault in that case," she replied, looking at her levelly. "It's important to know that sometimes."

"O-Okay." She can't quite look Samantha in the eye. She doesn't want to talk about people being taken over by evil forces and having to be killed. She's had too much of that lately.

"Enough of that. It doesn't matter. You know one of these days, we need to go out for dinner or something pleasant. Get our minds off of the crap that just seems to haunt this place," she said, snorting out a laugh. In truth, she could only laugh at the expense of the whole situation. Why not? Better to laugh than cry.

She looks up shyly, a small smile touching her lips. "That'd be nice. I'd invite you over for dinner and make it myself, but... um, I live with Karu and Shou."

Her smile disappears. It hurt to say, but Samantha had to know it eventually. She won't want to come over knowing that anyway, it's not like Nakama is keeping her away. Right?

She simply nodded. The change in her face wasn't easy to notice, but was there. There was ice in her veins. "It would be better if I never come to your home, or at least not if they and I do not reconcile first," she said softly. "My place would be fine, or a restaurant instead. I... don't want to bother them with my presence."

"I'm sorry, Samantha. I know this is really complicated, but they... they're like big brothers to me, and I knew they could make me feel safe. I really do hope you can reconcile sometime soon... I don't like having to split up my friends like that, and you don't deserve to be locked out of my house."
