The usual morning meeting runs a bit longer today. As if to make up for yesterday's absence, Conan has a lot to cover. In particular the Bank Case is reviewed and summed up. Conan frowns as he closes the casebook in front of him. It feels like they've been cheated of a case, teased with the potential but not given the opportunity to prove themselves -- and with the main suspects all vanished, it's likely there will be no chance to lay the case to rest.

"With the three main parties involved in this case departing from Asgard, I feel it's time that we shelve the case to better focus on new ways we can help the City. We've been talking about looking for ways to help the war effort, and yesterday that became official -- I'm sure you saw my announcement and recruitment notice! We'll be seeing some new faces in the department today. Please welcome them and answer any questions our potential recruits have!"

The new direction is indeed a shift, and Conan sits up as he enlarges upon it. He could be any eager elementary school kid at their first day of school -- until you hear what he's saying.

"As well as that ... I'd like to hear your ideas on ways we can help out! Those of you who have the experience of investigating cases here in Asgard already know what the trouble spots in each district are. You can advise the leaders of the Watches of them, or even volunteer to join their watch. For the gods to take the unprecedented step of contacting Travellers directly to lead them suggests that they have a good reason for thinking they'll be important. Looking at the record of the attacks on the city, it's not hard to see why. There's also a lot to be done research wise -- any information on previous attacks or the Fire and Ice Giants culture and weapons is obviously invaluable right now. Detective Beckett is our official liason with Arthur's watch, so let her know if you discover anything that should be immediately relayed to him!"

"Finally, there's two other ongoing projects that could do with more volunteers. The first -- dragon watch. We've got permission to mount a telescope on the top of the hospital. Our current model is a basic telescope -- not bad, but not as good as it could be, and not much good after dark. We need two things -- volunteers to take watches with the telescope and a team to work on expanding its capabilities. Secondly -- the emergency kits that O'Brien and I have been working on are almost ready to be assembled and distributed. We need volunteers to help with that and to liason with the hospital and clinic, find out what emergency measures they're taking so that we can support their efforts.

"Ha -- I'm really not getting any better at not making big speeches, sorry! I'm going to open the floor to everyone now, so please let us know if you have any plans or want to help in any particular way!"

Ne, tell me more about Reid-sensei's previous department?

[Spencer's cheeks actually redden at his use of the word sensei. He does not feel like a master or a teacher, though he supposes that he is.]

I work for the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI. Basically we study human behavior in order to assist with crimes, usually serial murders, which have little forensic evidence.

Profiling and psychological assessments? We could really have used you here earlier!

Oh? Did you.. have a serial offender?

[It was all the more interesting since there was such a small population of people here.]

One case of a serial offender that was solved successfully, and well -- an odd series of events that were too alike to be coincidental ... There's also the bank case which is unlikely to be resolved as those most closely involved have left the city.

The fluctuation of the population in this place could prove to be a difficulty when trying to formulate a profile.

Ah. It's pretty difficult being an investigator here at times ... but challenges are not boring!

Um.. well I like to use tangible paper files as opposed to anything digital.

That's pretty easily accomodatable! There's no internet in Asgard, and native citizens don't have any access to the bracelets that we Travellers received so paper copies is the best way to make sure everyone's on the same page.

[Spencer actually smiled at that.]

[He follows Conan around the office, a million questions going through his mind about the boy and whether or not he truly is one.]

[Conan's starting to feel self-conscious. He asks one of the staff to requisition the file cabinet as childishly as possible.]

[Sorry, Conan. Spencer's naturally skeptical and has a keen sense of deduction. So much so that he notices the change in tone when Conan speaks to the staff member.]

Does that help to get you need in certain situations?

[See, this is where employing people with sharp observational skills and keen analytic ability is occasionally a problem.]

I'm not sure it helps, but it seems to make some people feel better about me!

It lessens their insecurity, yes. Though also allows you to hide in plain sight.

Maybe Spencer-san should concentrate on investigating the city? I think his skills could be very productive there.

Usually, it's pretty quiet -- crime-wise. But when crimes occur ... well, they're usually pretty bad.
