[Meeting. Open to current members of the F.U & Consultants!]

The usual morning meeting runs a bit longer today. As if to make up for yesterday's absence, Conan has a lot to cover. In particular the Bank Case is reviewed and summed up. Conan frowns as he closes the casebook in front of him. It feels like they've been cheated of a case, teased with the potential but not given the opportunity to prove themselves -- and with the main suspects all vanished, it's likely there will be no chance to lay the case to rest.

"With the three main parties involved in this case departing from Asgard, I feel it's time that we shelve the case to better focus on new ways we can help the City. We've been talking about looking for ways to help the war effort, and yesterday that became official -- I'm sure you saw my announcement and recruitment notice! We'll be seeing some new faces in the department today. Please welcome them and answer any questions our potential recruits have!"

The new direction is indeed a shift, and Conan sits up as he enlarges upon it. He could be any eager elementary school kid at their first day of school -- until you hear what he's saying.

"As well as that ... I'd like to hear your ideas on ways we can help out! Those of you who have the experience of investigating cases here in Asgard already know what the trouble spots in each district are. You can advise the leaders of the Watches of them, or even volunteer to join their watch. For the gods to take the unprecedented step of contacting Travellers directly to lead them suggests that they have a good reason for thinking they'll be important. Looking at the record of the attacks on the city, it's not hard to see why. There's also a lot to be done research wise -- any information on previous attacks or the Fire and Ice Giants culture and weapons is obviously invaluable right now. Detective Beckett is our official liason with Arthur's watch, so let her know if you discover anything that should be immediately relayed to him!"

"Finally, there's two other ongoing projects that could do with more volunteers. The first -- dragon watch. We've got permission to mount a telescope on the top of the hospital. Our current model is a basic telescope -- not bad, but not as good as it could be, and not much good after dark. We need two things -- volunteers to take watches with the telescope and a team to work on expanding its capabilities. Secondly -- the emergency kits that O'Brien and I have been working on are almost ready to be assembled and distributed. We need volunteers to help with that and to liason with the hospital and clinic, find out what emergency measures they're taking so that we can support their efforts.

"Ha -- I'm really not getting any better at not making big speeches, sorry! I'm going to open the floor to everyone now, so please let us know if you have any plans or want to help in any particular way!"

[Kate had done her best to remain a figure during the meeting, just in case there were any problems with authority or just the overall fact that the boss around here was Conan.

After the meeting she notices one of the new recruits standing off to the side and she decides to walk up to him, holding out her hand.]

Detective Beckett.

Oh, um.. Spencer Reid.

[The handshake he gives her is awkward, mostly because he doesn't like doing them, but knows that it's socially unacceptable to not shake a hand if one is offered.]
extraordinarymuse: (really?)

[personal profile] extraordinarymuse 2012-11-06 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
[Ah, yes. Awkwardness. So much fun. But she gets a cop-like vibe from him, and wants to make sure she gets around to as many people as she can.]

So did Conan talk you into coming?

I answered his ad over the network.. so to speak. I work for the FBI back home.
extraordinarymuse: (eyebrow lift)

[personal profile] extraordinarymuse 2012-11-09 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
The FBI? [she just kind of stares at him before laughing a bit.]

Sorry, you just don't look like any of the FBI agents I've met.

[He smiles, hoping that's a good-natured laugh. He can't quite tell.]

I um.. work for the Behavioral Analysis Unit out of Quantico.

[It is, don't worry.]

Behavioral what? [Yeah, she's never heard of it.]

Behavioral Analysis Unit. We study crime rates, crime scene details and compile statistics about violent crime in order to look for patterns. Using these, we try to help in serial cases where there is little or no DNA evidence. Studying the behavior allows us to make conjectures about who the unknown subject might be.

We're also known as profilers.
extraordinarymuse: (what's your bright idea)

[personal profile] extraordinarymuse 2012-11-10 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[She listens to him speak, a little shocked by the fact it feels like he's got this explanation memorized. Then again, they probably get that question a lot.]

So you work with serial killers?
numbersnfigures: (adorable)

[personal profile] numbersnfigures 2012-11-11 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Technically yes. Though that makes it sound as though they're my colleagues.

[He smiles.]
extraordinarymuse: (heh)

[personal profile] extraordinarymuse 2012-11-15 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[That gets a slight chuckle out of her.]

That would be an interesting Christmas party.
numbersnfigures: (heyhey)

[personal profile] numbersnfigures 2012-11-16 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
[He gives a short laugh.]

It'd probably be very quiet and not very festive. Most serial killers are anti-social.
extraordinarymuse: (i'll toast to that)

[personal profile] extraordinarymuse 2012-11-20 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Shaking her head at the thought alone.]

NYPD Christmas parties are bad enough, thanks.
numbersnfigures: (adorable)

[personal profile] numbersnfigures 2012-11-21 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Spencer grins.]

I got dragged to the FBI Christmas party once.

[Garcia wasn't taking no as an answer.]

Only once?

[Lucky. She can't get out of them. Not with both Javier and Ryan bugging her.]
numbersnfigures: (smilesaturated)

[personal profile] numbersnfigures 2012-11-30 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. After that I would purposely try to make other plans.

[Which was hard because Spencer is not exactly a social butterfly.]
extraordinarymuse: (uh-huh and pigs can fly)

[personal profile] extraordinarymuse 2012-12-07 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess that's one way to get out of it.

[she nods as if she's really thinking about it, too. Not that she could manage that if tried.]
