[ Raven's been waiting outside for Lancelot almost since the moment he said he'd be there soon. She's antsy, pacing back and forth, and not only because this is the first time she's really had a chance to talk to Lancelot since the war. The very war that was supposed to see them all go home afterward.

Well, at least a bit of good came out of them not actually going home. She can see and talk to Lancelot again, along with the rest of the people she's met here ]

[That to him raises the question of what triggered that instinct - the only one he wants to kiss is the one he loves. But true to his word he keeps quiet and nods, waiting for her to continue if she wishes to. It's hardly clear enough to him.]

[ She's not entirely sure, herself, but she knows that she felt so she acted. That's how it works ]

Sometimes I express myself better with actions than with words and the kiss was just the best way to show you how much I appreciate you and how great I think you are. I don't really know how better to explain it than that because where I'm from, people would usually just- Well, people would sometimes get that that was the reason for it.

...things are different for you though, right?

[He nods, she's explained her side so he supposes it's time for him to do the same.]

Where I am from physical affection is not so easily given. For me that was the first time anyone has ever...

[He imagines what it might be like with Gwen. He'll never know that and it hurts.] It is an act saved for people who are bonded in love. Appreciation is shown with words or tokens - claps on the back among men.

[ She tries to stay quiet and let him explain his side of things, show him the same courtesy that he's shown her, but she just can't stop herself ]

That was your first kiss?

[ She feels like a terrible person right now ]

It was.

[He nods]

It's alright - what's important to me is to clear the air. Because I care for you dearly and I do not wish for anything to go unresolved between us. With how different our worlds are it stands to reason that things will happen.

No, it's not alright.

[ She says it quietly. Quite frankly, she's ashamed of herself ]

I'm sorry Lancelot. I didn't realize. I thought- I shouldn't have assumed. That was pretty stupid of me. But you're right. Clearing the air is important.

It was not stupid, you acted according to the norms of your world, of the place you grew up and spent your life in. We are all guilty of that at times, myself included. And it is the most natural thing to do.

[He tries to win her gaze and look into her eyes with a smile.]

Listen to me - I am not mad, there is no resentment. What you did was sweet, you showed appreciation in the way you know how. All I wanted was to understand, because I feared leading you on.

You can say that as much as you like, but it's not going to change how I feel. I still feel pretty stupid about just assuming.

[ It takes her a moment or two, but she eventually does look back at him, yellow eyes wide with embarrassment. She returns the smile though. Slowly ]

I didn't mean to make you think that you might have been.

[He shakes his head]

Why should you assume that something that has been taken for granted in your own world is different in another? I did the same - I assumed it might might mean something to you. I overrated my own importance.

[He chuckles] There has been no harm done, and now we understand each other better.

You're important Lancelot. You're very important. [ And not just to her, she knows, but none of the rest really matter right now ]

You know, all you have to do is ask me about something I say or do that you don't get.

I will from now on, I promise. And you as well - if there is ever any uncertainty, simply ask. I do not want anything to come between us.

[Shes one of the closest friends he made here, after all.]

I don't really want anything to come between us either.

[ She's not even sure that she's as close to Charles, now, as she is to Lancelot. Then again, she and Charles have drifted apart considerably... ]

I'll try to remember that.

[ Though whether or not she'll actually do it? That remains to be seen... ]

Lancelot, can I tell you something?

You can tell me anything.

[And he means it, too. He's terrible with his own feelings and his own secrets. But keeping the confidence of others? That he can do rather well.]

[ She's quiet for a while, like she decided that maybe she didn't want to say anything after all. She's not entirely sure that she does. Maybe she should keep it to herself or maybe she should just talk to Erik about this. It concerns him too, after all.

So she speaks before her thoughts have a chance of convincing her otherwise ]

Early, I mentioned that people were willing to kill us because we're different. I spoke to someone like me not that long ago. He's actually from my future. They do try to kill us. The normal people try to kill us. Mutant genocide, he called it. They want to kill us all and I don't know what to do.

[ No matter how far into her future it is, the idea still scares her ]

[A wave of fury hits him. He clenches his fists, the rage flashing across his face. He hates this, hates this helplessness. He can't protect her in her world. He can barely protect her in Asgard, but if she goes home...how can anyone wish to harm someone so kind?]

I wish I had an answer, I wish I could go and defend you...

[Useless. Again.]

[ She takes a deep breath in an attempt to clear her head before she continues. She won't be doing any of them any favours if she can't stay on one train of thought ]

He said that it turns out okay, that I'm even partly responsible for that, but I still- I knew that things were going to get worse for us before they got better but I never imagined it would get that bad.

The future may turn grim and difficult - but at least you have assurance that good will conquer.

[He gently lays a hand on her shoulder, trying to offer what encouragement he can.]

I still keep thinking, though, that something'll end up going wrong and it won't end up the way it did for him.

[ She smiles up at him though, drawing strength from his presence and his encouragement ]

Don't - you will drive yourself mad. You can always know - truly know - that things will work out the way they are meant to if you have faith. In yourself, in your friends, in the justice of your ways.

[That's what keeps him going most days.]

Faith and justice only goes so far, Lancelot. Especially where I'm from. But I'll still keep it in mind. Maybe it'll be what helps us win. Or at least survive.

[ she's not entirely sure she believes that, but it sounds nice ]

It can very well be the difference between life and death, victory and defeat. Do not underestimate your heart.

[Gently, with some hesitation, he claps his hand on her shoulder and offers a little reassuring squeeze]

[ she looks up at him and then, quickly, she looks away again ]

I'm sure none of this is even going to matter in the end. I probably won't remember any of this once I go home.

Your mind may lost these memories but -

[He gently lays the tips of his fingers ~~to avoid any further awkwardness between them god~~ on her heart.]

Your heart will never forget feeling felt. [he removes his hand] And if you feel that faith with every fiber of your being, it will go on with you. I truly believe that.

[ ~~yes good they don't need any more awkward~~ she glances down at his hand and smiles to herself ]

Coming from anyone else, that would sound kind of silly. Coming from you though, it actually sounds like it's possible.

It is - I'm certain of it.

[He smiles at her]
