Rebel Souls
Who: Gale Hawthorne and Open
What: Gale is manning the bar at the Roadhouse and configuring a new trap (It's therapy okay...)
When: July 7, 2013
Where: The Roadhouse.
Rating: Pg-13 so far as I know...
He found he didn't mind the extra work of helping out around the Roadhouse. It was simple work that gave his mind and body a chance to rest compared to working with Buffy. And he found he enjoyed his boss/landlady's company that was a plus. He wiped out the last glass and stacked it neat.
There were no customers, not that it wasn't subject to change but for now he had some down time.
He pulled out a small device, something new he had been working on. It was a smallish trap, obviously not meant to harm a human. But, he still enjoyed hunting and using his abilities here to catch what food he can. Even if it was not needed. He still delivered the fresh game to Safe House when his shift started. That job was fairly similar to the Roadhouse minus the booze and a certain lack of tension.
Funny how much his life had changed here, he thought to himself as he threaded a wire through the appropriate hole. One elbow leaning on the bar as he looked it over for any minor defects before he put the finishing touches on.

She's not even sure how it happened, but somehow she found a few extra hours in the day - what with everyone being taken care of and not much else to worry about, she decided to stop by the Roadhouse, just to check on things. That's where she finds him, when she comes through the back door and into the main area of the bar, seeing him fiddle with one of his traps she sometimes catches him working on.
"Slacking off on the job?" Jo's kidding, of course, judging from the fact there is no one in the bar. She sets down her bag at the foot of the bar, taking a look around the empty room. "Guessing everyone's still at that festival. You sure you didn't want to check it out?"

He did not mind filling in while they took care of things. No one but Johanna seemed to show up from Panem and she would spend her time with Katniss and Finnick, not Gale. It left him with a bit more free time than normal, which meant it was nice to have the bar to fill it with.
When she spoke he looked up, the edge of his mouths turning into a grin, a faint hint of it actually sparking into his eyes. A rare sight indeed as he sat the trap down, giving her his attention for the moment.
"Yup, I'm a big slacker, haven't you noticed." His grin quirked a little more till her question, then he shook his head and looked back at his device.
"I'd rather not, too many people for my tastes." Too much of a memory about the last time he had been at a festival in Asgard...damn flowers.

"Not a people person?" But then her eyes fall to the device in his hands. She's seen him fiddle with similar things whenever he has some free time, but she never really had the chance to ask about it. "What're you working on?"

"Good thing I don't ask her to pay me." It was not often he had it but at this moment Gale's tone took on a teasing hint. He had slipped some money under the office door to cover the expense of his room this month. Independence was something he could not let go of.
"Some people I don't mind, it's the big crowds celebrating. A little too much like the Capitol with all of them there." Good excuse, truth in some words and a way to cover any possible need to mention the festival here.
"A new live trap, trying to work on catching more fresh game. It's about ready to test, if you want to see?" There is no denying the level of pride that comes, it wasn't often anymore that any one asked him about his traps. Gale was proud of his skill, it was nearly unmatched and he never slacked off on perfecting it more.

Today, she had lost complete track of the time and now she was just realizing she was an hour late taking her pill. The rule was you took it as soon as you were able, so she stepped into the Roadhouse, knowing that Jo owned it and hoped that someone could help her out.
The place was a bit busier than she had anticipated though, so she was mostly just trying to figure out who to talk to about getting a glass of water.

Finnick didn't really come to bars a lot, but he had definitely started coming more frequently to hang out with Gale and generally keep tabs on his new found friend. The alcohol was just a plus on the side of a larger list of pluses that Finnick had ticked off in his head. First and foremost was being there to make sure that Gale was doing okay. After all, he felt somewhat responsible over all the younger people that were from his world.
"Looks kind of interesting."
you say in the meme thread, when I am actually the slowest
She knew about the money, and she knew that no matter how many times she all but yelled at him about it, he'd still do it. But rather than taking it for herself, she just puts it back into the bar. Supplies and items and a better air conditioning system. Jo's not going to take his money, but she's not going to disrespect him by shoving it back in his face. So she compromises.
When he mentions the Capitol, she just kind of shrugs. Gale doesn't talk about home much, but maybe because Jo has a tendency to avoid talking personal. Doesn't really want to bring the conversation back on herself. Either way, she moves on to the next point of conversation, namely his trap. She leans across the counter a little more to get a better look at it before her eyebrows shoot up.
"Really? I mean, yeah. That's be awesome."

Annie and him gave a small spark of hope that they could all be okay, after all, together at least they were happy.
"Yup, a live one so that I can wait a few days before needing to check it and still have fresh meat."
He however sat the device aside for a moment and got a glass, fixing Finnick a drink out of habit by this point. Glad that the other came by as often as he did, Gale found himself liking the company.
"How's things over that way?" Plus, he cared how all of them were doing and it was nice to know.

The young man stepped around the bar and came up beside her rather than try to wave her over.
He was not a smiler but his expression remained neutral as he greeted her.
"You need some help, we've got open spots at the bar if you want to grab a stool."
We can be slow together~
Jo herself had begun to prove to be an interesting part of this new life and her interest in his trap was a bonus he never expected.
"I might get fired, then I'd have to find some one to take pity and give me a room." There was an actual chuckle to it that time, he knew she was not going to put him out. His room here was his own and there would be no one to come in and make him feel awkward in it.
It was safe.
Something Gale did not get a lot of.
"Come on." That grin fit naturally as he moved his head in a motion toward the door and lifted up the trap.
"This'll help with fresher game that I don't have to check the line daily, if it works." The trap had an extra food compartment, so he could keep the captured animal alive for a day or two more, giving him more time between catching and needing to harvest. Meaning more fresh meat.

This just felt polite.
Erica offered up a soft smile as he came to help her out, "Thanks. I just - I have to take a pill, so I was hoping to just get a glass of water."

Finnick picked up the glass and grinned, "But business is good, and the Safehouse as ever is doing well thanks to you and Katniss as always."
"But enough about us, what about you? How are you doing over here? Any better?" Finnick knew that Gale had made a tough decision, but he didn't know why, but he could at least acknowledge that the other was doing his best in his own way doing what he thought was right.
