[Closed] The night of the Tanabata festival is drawing closer

Rating: C for cute and kittens, A for Awkward from Shinji, S for sweet (and maybe sad). ...Ok, PG, all around.

[ When Shinji said in his text that it had been a while since he stepped out to other districts, like this, he meant it. After the talks he had last time, he had enough "adventure" to last him a while, so he stayed close to his district, mostly. Until he got a text from his... friend? He supposes friend... It was hard to put a label on what to make of it every time he talked to the angel.

It took a bit to find the way to Odin. The only saving grace the former pilot had when he found it was remembering the library that he came to find through his exploring and somewhat odd encounters, last time. (Allen, Asahi, Rue... He'll come to remember them, well.)

When Shinji got to the housing he was told, he wasn't immediately going the door. Rather, he was looking up at that mecha that he saw from the network. It was... right outside! (You'd be blind if you missed it.) It took another moment before he finally quit staring at it and made his way to the door and hesitantly knocked.

Well. He could ask about that while he was here. What would Kaworu do with it...?]

[ Kaworu came to the door with a smile (of course. That's not surprising at all). From inside the house, came the smell of freshly baked cake (it was still cooling off, so they'd probably have to wait a little bite before actually eating it) and from inside the house also came a hiss.

Sorry Shinji, it's not you, it's basically everyone.

Meet Zadkiel, Kaworu's orange and adult cat, who decided he hates the whole world and thus everyone should be hissed at. Even Kaworu. Though Kaworu is probably the only person he can actually stand enough to allow the angel to pet him, but this is most likely because Kaworu feeds him. Zadkiel passes by only to look at Shinji, hiss and grumble as to tell Kaworu he doesn't like Shinji, and then pretty much vanishes out of their sight. ]

I'm sorry, Zadkiel doesn't like people. [ or anything. It's a spawn of the devil that lives to hate ] But Asariel is much nicer.

[ If Shinji was getting second thoughts, it was when that demon of a feline came out of its way to hiss at him. Staying at that limbo between the door and outside was almost more comfortable to stay put at than going inside the house, suddenly.

He really never had much luck with cats (He had slightly better luck with dogs...), so he wasn't too put off by it. The former pilot almost expected something like that, in fact. It doesn't mean he was any less startled when he saw Zadkiel, though.

Shinji looks around inside, nervously, before looking at Kaworu with a mix of annoyed and paranoid. ~~Zadkiel doesn't attack people's feet, right? ...Shinji thinks he will still keep his shoes on, in case, anyway...~~ ]

That's all the cats in there, right? No more hiding in there or anything...? [ Kaworu DID say two, last time they talked, but Shinji wanted to be sure.]

[ ~~Zadkiel usually attacks other pets rather than people. Unless you try to pet him.~~

Kaworu smiles and nods, stepping out of the way to let Shinji come inside ] I only have two, yes. [ and don't worry, the youngest kitten is seriously a ball of love and "pet me please". ]

And it's alright to keep your shoes on. Link is more used to a western life style, I believe.

[ That's right, Kaworu still hasn't told Shinji he is living with someone else. He will tell the other pilot a bit about his housemate soon enough.

The angel makes way inside the house, heading towards the kitchen. ]

I hope the place wasn't too difficult to find.

[ Shinji makes another attentive look around before stepping inside the house. Well, until he actually sees Asariel, he's going to assume the worst and expect another hissy feline. (But Kaworu sort of mentioned, last time, that he was nice, right...?) And still want to keep his feet protected, even if he was about to go into the habit of asking if he should take off his shoes, so Kaworu's answer was assuring.

Not sure what to do, he sort of follows after Kaworu into the kitchen.]

A little. Then I remembered the library... [ Actually. The robot outside was a give away, but he'll just say that little white-lie.]

[ The kitchen smells even more of cake. Fruit cake, without any eggs because Kaworu doesn't eat eggs. There is also tea, still in the teapot by the stove, but the cake is right on top of the table for Shinji to see.

Asariel, a black and white kitten (not really that young anymore. He is four months old) is sleeping on one of the chairs, but the blue eyes open to watch his owner and - oh is that a new person? Yes, it is a new person. The kitten quickly moves to approach Shinji and rub against his legs.

See? kaworu told you he was sweet, Shinji.

Kaworu smiles wide at that and lets them be, as he moves to grab the teapot ]

With time, you will be used to the city. Each district has its God's color, therefor it's easy to find your way, after a while.

[ The smell of fresh baked cake was the first thing the former pilot notices; well. noticed even more. It had been apparent since he stepped inside.

Kaworu, it smells good. ...Really good!

But before Shinji was able to comment on that, he feels something furry rub against his leg and he almost jumped from the touch. Almost. He stopped tensing when he looked down and sees it was just the kitten. And with his lack of experience with them, all he did was sort of... watch Asariel and stayed perfectly still. Blue eyes looked down at... well... blue eyes.

'Do I pet him?' 'Do I wait till he's done rubbing?' ~~(How does he cat?)~~

...I can guess that. [He remembers the purple, quite well.

Oh? He sees The angel reaching for the tea. Shinji's awkward-polite-guest mode kicks in when he asks,]

Did you need some help?

Don't worry about Asariel. He will let you do whatever to him. [ no, seriously, he does. And he will probably purr too. And actually, the kitten won't stop rubbing against Shinji's legs until Shinji either moves or pets him, so there is that. ~~He will leave fur all over your pants, Shinji~~.

But the angel shakes his head, leaving the teapot on the table while he moves to reach for silverware, plates and cups for both of them. ]

It's done, thank you.

Please sit down.

[ He bent down closer to Asariel's level and his hand hesitantly reached down to touch the little feline. ('Um. Nice kitty...?') His hand ran along his back, carefully. He didn't remember a kitty being this soft?

This was the first time Shinji was able to touch a cat without getting scratched at or it just moving away from him. Progress. It's being made. ~~Good thing he has black pants, then... Won't be too apparent? sob.~~

And then, one more (and a little apologetic) petting before he gets up and moves to take his seat at the table. He looked at the cake intently. Kaworu said he learned, didn't he...? ]

Did you teach yourself how to make that or did someone show you how? [ It looks good... And that says a lot, since Shinji wasn't as enthusiastic about sweets as others might be.]

[ yeah, when Shinji touches Asariel, the kitty pretty much melts against his hand, and though Shinji is planning on moving away, the cat follows him and jumps on his lap the moment he sits down.

Shinji. You won't be getting rid of him that fast. ~~He is a cat and he does what he wants~~.

Kaworu, meanwhile, sits close to Shinji after he cuts two slices of the cake and hands one to the pilot ]

Link taught me how to bake fruit cake. And after I read about it in cooking books.

[ Shinji froze in place for a split second when he felt a furry bundle hop into his lap and looked down to see what it was. Oh. Well, hello again, Asariel... ~~Looks like he won't be moving for a while.~~ He lifts a hand to pet the little one, again.

You won't be trying to eat his cake, will you, kitty?

Their seating didn't bother Shinji in the least, if that was any indicator, when he gratefully accepts the cake. So it looks like he's learned for a while, now... One less thing for Shinji to show him, it seems. but Shinji will sit on that thought on another day. Right now...]

It shows. It smells really good, Kaworu-kun. [Is that a slight smile on his face? It might just be! ]

[ He luckily doesn't like cake. Asariel will just stay there purring loud.

After sitting down, Kaworu pours some tea to both their cups ]

Thank you, Shinji-kun. I hope you will like it. [ and hopefully it won't be too sweet. Though Kaworu has a sweet tooth, when baking he is careful with the amount of sugar ]

If you made it, I'm sure I will.

[ Maybe cats weren't as terrible as Shinji was making them out to be, before. Maybe. His smile widened when he listened to the purring.

The pilot then perked up from being distracted with petting the feline in his lap when he watched Kaworu pour the tea. Ah. He could have offered, as the intruding guest... But knowing Kaworu, he'd probably say it's nothing to worry about.

But he also wondered...]

Is there a reason you asked me here? [ Was it just to have cake? Kaworu was here long enough to probably invite someone else to have cake with him, if he wanted, right?]

Eh? [ Kaworu doesn't really understand the question. No, rather, he just doesn't understand why it's being asked.

He asked Shinji there because he enjoys spending time with the boy and wants to share things with him. The things he learned and the things he knows. He wants to spend time together and make him smile, just like those things made Kaworu smile ]

I just though you might like cake. [ should he have other reason? Often, when he meets Allen or Link, or Equius, he doesn't really have other reason but wishing to spend time with them ]

[ Can you blame him for wondering and doubting after how well their time spent together was ~~and ended~~, last time? (Kaworu promised that won't happen again, but...)

The former pilot took notice of Kaworu's questioning look for a moment before shaking his head, as of to say "Never mind." before reaching for his tea and took a sip at it before putting it down to speak again.]

I guess it's fine.

...

How have you been? [ Since last time, he means. He remembered Kaworu asking him through their texts, but Shinji didn't bother to ask Kaworu in return. Has it really been almost a month since they spoke? ]

[ It has been a month, indeed. That's why Kaworu messaged Shinji. He wasn't trying to pry or bother the other, but he just... wanted to know how he was. Besides cake. ]

I'm alright, thank you. [ when isn't he alright?

Kaworu takes a piece of the cake to eat it, until he remembers- ] Ah. Equius gave me something. [ probably Shinji doesn't know who Equius is ~~if he only knew... the things Equius did to Kaworu, before. So maybe it is better if Shinji doesn't know Equius~~, but it's alright.

The angel gets up and walks up to the kitchen door, peeking outside. ]

Unit A.

[ Shinji. There are moments in life that you don't really question. Or rather, you can question, but no answer will ever be enough. What is about to happen is one of those moments.

To the kitchen door comes a robot. Which is basically Kaworu (looks, height) except made of metal and doesn't really smile. Meet Kaworubot, Shinji! ]

[ If anyone is known for being a wallflower or good at staying low-key, it's Shinji Ikari. So the messaging was for the best!

Shinji had taken a bite of his cake when Kaworu went to get... um. whatever he was getting and fixing to show him. No, he did not know who Equius was, but he was curious, just the same. ~~If Shinji finds out, he'd worry for Kaworu and wonder if a "Don't talk to weird people, Kaworu-kun" talk is necessary...~~

Unit A...?' he blinks at that and waits. ]

[ And then he laid eyes on the robot... Kaworu(?) as it came. He's gaping at Kaworubot with wide eyes. ~~Quite different from Ayanami clones, but...~~

Another Kaworu? Wha-

You'll need to pardon Shinji. He chokes on his cake for a moment until he recovers. He looks at Kaworu, and then the metal clone. He does this a few times.

What DOES he ask...? Because, indeed, no answer would be enough to enough. ]

[ Kaworu allows it to sink in. Really, no, you have no idea how many people have or will be freaked out over this. And yet Kaworu finds it perfectly natural for the troll to have gifted him with a metallic clone of himself. ]

It's actually lifeless. Very much like a television, yet with other functions. [ meaning: nothing like an Evangelion. ] It does the house chores, mostly.

[ How could they not? It looks just like you. (if you didn't smile, maybe. And robots in this house, suddenly. Inside AND outside...)

Lifeless, you say? Yes, he knows you mean it has no soul or anything, but with time, Shinji may or may not treat Kaworubot as much of a person as anyone else here. ~~Lose your head, Kaworubot, and Shinji might still cry.~~

He stares at the robot some more. You say this Equius made him?]

I didn't think anyone was able to do something like this... [Shinji. You have seen Evangelions, you've seen angels, you've been in Nerv. A robot that looks like a person surprises you? Really?]

With his power. It's called Drawing Life and drawing something, he can bring life to it.

[ Kaworu reaches for the robot, to clean a smudge on its face ] However, Equius is quite capable of doing without his powers. He built robots long before arriving here.

[ The angel moves back to sit on the table, watching the robot moving to the kitchen sink - it's going to wash the baking utensils Kaworu used to make the cake ]

Zadkiel hates it. [ and no one is surprised ]

[ Shinji refrained from scoffing at that. He only met Zadkiel once but he is plenty convinced that the kitty hates everyone. So he watched the robot, as well, as he took another bite of his cake. (no choking this time...) He was fast to take another bite. Kaworu, it's good!

But. For real. He wondered. ]

The robot outside... Is it the same?

Unit A has artificial intelligence, but not Kaji. [ yes, Kaji. if you want to judge that name, you should judge yourself, Shinji. You were the one choosing it ]

Kaji is an elven battle robot.

[ ...It had a name?

And he blinks and tilted his head at the name. Well. He isn't judging it. He is just a bit surprised to hear that name, is all.

'Kaji? ...Kaji-san?'

Shinji is looking towards the window where he knew the mecha was. ]

Kaji? That's... [ quite the name.] Did you name it?

[ kaworu smiles softly ] You did. [ before. ]

[ It's a good thing Shinji had put his tea down before Kaworu answered. He would have dropped it none too gracefully.

But Shinji looked no less surprised, if not more than before. A moment of blinking at the other boy before he looks at the other boy warily before looking down to stroke Asariel to distract himself and have less reason to look anywhere else. ]

...

And why did I name it? [ He was an Evangelion pilot. He thinks he knows why it had a name. But he wanted to be sure. ]
