Who: Elizabeth & YOU!
What: she said she wanted to cook, so she's going to do it! there may or may not be a certain smell of smoke coming from the kitchen...
When: Day 371? a day after she made that network post.
Where: Odin kitchen! but anyone from any district is welcome to come by!
Rating: G for GOOD COOKIN
[she must've borrowed at least a dozen cookbooks from the library to find just the right kind of recipe she'd like to try. a cake was what she wanted to make originally but figuring that would've been a tad too messy for a first try she ultimately decided on going with cookies. just simple, chocolate chip cookies.
at least she thought they'd be simple.
apparently reading & starting another recipe while one is baking isn't quite a good idea because then one loses track of time & well--]
Oh--! No, the cookies!
[Elizabeth rushes to the oven, opening it to find her cookies burnt to a crisp. in a hurry she reaches to take the pan out but forgot to reach for an ovenmit in her frenzy.] Ow...
[the burned fingers go into her mouth while she groans, turning the oven off before staring at the charred black mounds that she had hoped would be cookies with a pout.]

A-Ah, yes I guess so. [he may notice the place look a bit a mess. she's never touched a single cooking utensil in her life & most of it has never been around in her time period.]

Beginner's luck isn't always a thing, don't worry. The next batch will turn out just fine.
[She smiles, approaching Elizabeth so she can take hold of the girl's hand and look it over, to make sure she doesn't need medical attention.]

Oh--Elizabeth! [She's about to ask how do you do, but one look at the frazzled girl answers that.] Do you need a bit of help?
no subject
That sounds... like a very good idea.

I probably should have waited for you. I'm sorry.
[it was just all the excitement of seeing cooking instruments she's never seen before & trying to see if she could do it on her own. obviously she needs all the help she could get.]
no subject
Ah... maybe.

What were they going to be?

[there's a tired sigh but she hasn't given up yet!] I'll just have to try again.

[She's not familiar with that variety. Perhaps it's an American one.]
That's the spirit! Baking's an awfully exact sort of thing, from what I recall. I was never particularly skilled with it.

Have you made them before, Evy?

[She was always much more partial to cooking things; you don't have to measure out spices so carefully when you do that, just throw things in until it tastes nice.]
It's really not a bad start, though--you must've gotten everything else right, if they held together.

I guess I have to pay more attention.

[Ah, the librarian's lament. Books are just so much more interesting than waiting for things to bake.]
But I'm sure your next batch will come out much better.

[Smirking a bit at that, Clara sets aside her things and gets right to work preparing the ingredients for another batch.]
How many attempts have you made already?

[Elizabeth sighs but pushes herself up from the floor and dusts herself off.] I'll just have to be more careful and focus on one thing at a time.

[She's cheerful and energetic as she finds an apron and ties it around her waist. Clara's not the best baker, but she tries her hardest, and enjoys giving it a try. It's even more fun when there's a willing participant helping her out, so she grins over at Elizabeth and nods over toward some eggs.]
We'll need three, I think.
no subject
Yes, ma'am! [she gives the other girl a fake salute & makes her way to the eggs, picking out three from the carton.]

It's a bit of a bother to do it by hand, but your arms will thank you for it later. It's what my mum always used to say, anyway.
[She starts looking around to find a clean pan for them to lay the dough out on once it's finished.]

Did you used to bake a lot with your mother?
