NEW YEARS EVE FESTIVAL LOG (WOW GUYS, THIS TOTALLY ISN'T LATE OR ANYTHING...)

Who: Everyone!
What: New Years Eve! WUTWUT.
When: Err...New Years Eve. Wut...wut? (December 31st, Day 14, etc.)
Where: The Castle Plaza
Rating: Worksafe. If this changes, PLEASE INFORM THE MODS.

[Look down. Now back up! Where are you? You're in the Castle Plaza, with the Gods your Gods could God like.

[Lively, pleasant music hangs in the air around you as fireworks explode in the sky above. There is a tempting aroma teasing at your nostrils. Where is it coming from? Those long tables at the center of the plaza, overflowing with food you love. Craving anything from home? You'll be sure to find it there.

[Look around you. What do you see? Carnival games. Hundreds of Carnival games, including a dunk tank, and all for free! Carnival games not your thing? Why not give the dance floor a try? That music is awfully catchy, and just look at all those stunning lights!

[Enjoy yourselves, travelers. A New Year is upon us.]

[He's so nice... she blushes a little, still unused to this sort of greeting, and nods toward his plate.]

I was just wondering... what kind of food is that?

[identity profile] maplesandmoose.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Pardon?

Oh, this? [He points to his plate.]

It's called poutine. It's very popular where I come from. [Canada takes another bite.]

Very good too..

[identity profile] agoodfamily.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Pou... tine... [She repeats the strange word twice, once in the shared accent of Asgard and once with a thick Japanese accent.] I've never heard of it before. It looks like fries, with... is that all cheese?

[Unsure. It looks like an awful lot...]

[identity profile] maplesandmoose.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[He chuckles softly. Canada supposes this dish is a bit strange to anyone who isn't that familiar with it.]

Well, it's not all cheese. There's a bit of gravy on it too.

[identity profile] agoodfamily.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[It looks terribly rich, with all that melted cheese and gravy. How strange. She glances down at her plate of raw fish on rice, though, and decides that maybe it'd be just as strange to him.]

Where are you from, sir?

[identity profile] maplesandmoose.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Me? I'm from Canada.

[Canada takes a few more bites of poutine before speaking again.]

And might I ask where you're from?

[identity profile] agoodfamily.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh - Canada? [She frowns thoughtfully.] I'm from Japan, and I've heard that some of the bigger cities have what are called "Sister Cities" in Canada. They send transfer students and gifts back and forth and stuff like that. I've never been, though.

[identity profile] maplesandmoose.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Japan, eh? I've never been there personally, but I hear it's rather nice.
Canada's nice too; I hope you get the chance to visit someday.

[He smiles and pauses for a few moments, eying the girl's own plate.]

Might I ask what you have on your plate?

[identity profile] agoodfamily.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, my town's too small to have a transfer program. But maybe one day. [It's such a nice thing to say that she doesn't want to reject the idea entirely.]

Oh - this? This is nigirizushi. [That won't mean anything to him, Nakama.] It's sashimi on a bed of rice. [Neither will that. She blushes at her awkwardness, finally getting around to the heart of the matter.] Raw fish. I've got tuna and octopus.

[Canada laughs a little, trying to cover up his own nervousness. He really wasn't expecting that type of reaction.]

No need to be nervous miss.

[identity profile] maplesandmoose.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[He then smiles warmly trying to make this girl a little less nervous.]

Hmmmm, that does look quite interesting too. Maybe I'll try a little later.

And don't you worry, you'll get the chance to visit. Be hopeful.

[identity profile] agoodfamily.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry. [She lets out a nervous little laugh of her own.] Language is just so weird here... the way we all speak the same language most of the time, I forget that when I speak Japanese, some people won't understand me.

And my name is Nakama, by the way. [He'd probably be used to handshakes, but since both of them have full hands, she bows (very shallowly, so as not to tip her plate.)]

[identity profile] maplesandmoose.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry about it dear. I would suppose that there are some people who won't understand me when I speak English either.

[He's trying to be a bit comforting to her.]

It's very nice to meet you Nakama. I'm...well you can just call me Canada.

[identity profile] agoodfamily.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Your... name... is Canada...?

[identity profile] maplesandmoose.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Another nervous laugh.]

I know it may seem odd to some but, yes that is my name.

I'm...not really sure of how to explain this.

....sorry

[identity profile] agoodfamily.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[When she realizes how uncomfortable she's made him, she rushes to be of some comfort.]

No, no, you don't have to apologise! We've probably all got things that sound weird to other people here. Canada isn't a bad name.

[identity profile] maplesandmoose.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, why thank you.

Nakama is a rather pretty name too.

[He can feel his cheeks reddening a little.]

[identity profile] agoodfamily.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[And now she's blushing.]

Oh, it's - just a nickname. My full name's Nakarai Mako, so you just take Naka- and -ma and stick them together. A lot of Japanese nicknames are made that way.

[identity profile] maplesandmoose.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
A nickname, eh? I see then. [He smiles a little.]

How interesting.

[identity profile] agoodfamily.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Interesting? Really? Well, she can talk more about it, then!]

It makes a real word, though. Nakama means... like, your closest friends and allies. People who are almost like a second family to you.

[identity profile] maplesandmoose.livejournal.com 2012-01-01 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Allies? A second family? Oh.

[Canada takes a moment to think about his own 'family'.]

Those are nice things to have. Do you have anyone you consider that close?

[He really hopes that the question doesn't upset her at all.]

[identity profile] agoodfamily.livejournal.com 2012-01-01 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Unfortunately, it's a very sensitive question for her. The pilots are complicated - most of them didn't like her much, but she treasured them. She also barely got to know them before her death, so are they really nakama?]

Maybe not that close, but that important. Does that make sense?
