NEW YEARS EVE FESTIVAL LOG (WOW GUYS, THIS TOTALLY ISN'T LATE OR ANYTHING...)

Who: Everyone!
What: New Years Eve! WUTWUT.
When: Err...New Years Eve. Wut...wut? (December 31st, Day 14, etc.)
Where: The Castle Plaza
Rating: Worksafe. If this changes, PLEASE INFORM THE MODS.

[Look down. Now back up! Where are you? You're in the Castle Plaza, with the Gods your Gods could God like.

[Lively, pleasant music hangs in the air around you as fireworks explode in the sky above. There is a tempting aroma teasing at your nostrils. Where is it coming from? Those long tables at the center of the plaza, overflowing with food you love. Craving anything from home? You'll be sure to find it there.

[Look around you. What do you see? Carnival games. Hundreds of Carnival games, including a dunk tank, and all for free! Carnival games not your thing? Why not give the dance floor a try? That music is awfully catchy, and just look at all those stunning lights!

[Enjoy yourselves, travelers. A New Year is upon us.]

[ She still doesn't find the explanation very convincing, but she'll just have to think about it more on her own later on. Instead she raises an eyebrow when he asks her what a movie is - but then she realises he's probably from a world or time without them. ]

It's like.. theatre, a little. You probably do know what that is, right? Except the actors aren't actually in front of you, it's just a projection.

A projection... Is it something like an illusion? A magic theatre...

[Trying to imagine this! It seems like it might be more exciting than regular theatre; not that he's seen all that much of regular theatre, either.

Gosh you kids and your free time.]

No, it's definitely real. [ wait, how does one explain this properly either way to someone who has never heard of it.. okay, let's try.. ]

See, they practically recorded those actors playing the whole thing once, and then they can play that record of the actors at any place and any time they want. It's pretty convenient, right?

... Earth really does have some incredible things. In other words, it is like seeing into the past.

[It's almost like dreaming, huh? A collective dream.]

So that's how you learn about older times.
entreats: (what would it be?)

[personal profile] entreats 2012-01-12 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, since we can just view old movies. But we can't see further back than when movies were invented, of course, so I guess it'll be more useful the further in time we get.

[identity profile] sostaygold.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, that was just all kinds of convoluted. Headtilt goes here.]

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by that.
entreats: (within the freezing wind)

[personal profile] entreats 2012-01-13 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you say it's a way of looking into the past, but.. we obviously can't view things that happened before movies were invented, of course, since there was no way to record that just yet. [ a shrug. ]

It's usually just a little while into the past.
briochetime: (I think that counts as a FML.)

[personal profile] briochetime 2012-01-21 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
That makes sense. [Have an inquisitive look.] What is the earliest thing you can see?
entreats: (that has been calling you)

[personal profile] entreats 2012-01-21 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh.. Let's see. [ Ange is not that good at her random trivia, considering how she never bothered to pay too much attention at school, but her dad is a (western) film fan, so she knows a little.. ]

I think film must have been invented about around 1900 or so? So it's about 100 years, give or take a few.

... You can see an entire century into the past. [His eyes aren't exactly sparkling, but they are rather bright at the prospect.] Was that the time of gods and their wars? That you could even capture gods with this...

[It's pretty unbelievable. Even if he's seen a lot of unbelievable things since he got here.]
entreats: (all this time; i wonder)

[personal profile] entreats 2012-01-23 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[ this guy seems so.. happy over something that seems so simple to her, it's enough to throw her off for a moment but then she continues on, keeping her voice as deadpan as possible. ]

A century is not long though on the entire Earth's timeline.. If we could see millions of years into the past, now that would be amazing. A century ago is barely before the two World Wars.
briochetime: (Thank you for the change of clothes.)

[personal profile] briochetime 2012-01-23 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sometimes, just sometimes, his inner geek comes out to play. It's a good night for shenanigans, anyway; there's a blink or two at that one.]

Millions of years...? I can't say I know how old our continent is, but the earliest history is -- well, the current year is 501. It's no wonder Earth is so different.
entreats: (what would it be?)

[personal profile] entreats 2012-01-23 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Where I came from it was 1998. Still, it's been scientifically proven that the Earth is much, much older than that, and humans only came into play pretty late on. Like those annoying people who show up late to a party and never leave.

[ yes Ange, that's clearly an apt metaphor for the evolution.. ]
briochetime: (Dropped my last hairbrush in the gutter.)

[personal profile] briochetime 2012-01-23 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems your 'world' is at least over a millennium older than mine. [That's a ridiculous stretch of time already, isn't it? Her conclusion surprises a small laugh out of him, though.] Ange, you... are very much not one for parties, are you?

[The answer is kind of obvious at this point, but they had to come full circle sometime. And, being from the society he is, he's never heard humanity spoken of in quite that fashion.]
entreats: (to come back home)

[personal profile] entreats 2012-01-23 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It is a rather nice full circle! Not to mention he's obviously spot on, and she doesn't even have enough shame to deny it. ]

Yeah, I'm not. Hence why I'm not out there [ gesturing in the general direction of the dance floor ] partying with them, but standing here instead. It's just useless, having a party here like this.

[There's a part of him that knows, logically, that she's right -- this is a waste of time they could be using to get closer to the truth, to a solution, to more sleep. At the same time, he can't flat out agree with her either, for some reason.

Standing here, in the lights, the people, being here--

There's a lot of other things he could say, but he settles for the somewhat lame:]

I suppose... there are many useless things in life.

[In a voice that's half-laughing at himself.]
entreats: (i'm still down there)

[personal profile] entreats 2012-01-24 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She can almost sense what he's not saying, really, the part of her that can understand somewhat why people would want this, to have fun while they can, and..

'The power that Maria has, but Ange doesn't.' ]

... Go have fun with them if you feel like it. [ Even though she's shrugging, it almost sounds actually a little friendly. ]

It's just not my sort of thing.
briochetime: (Dropped my last hairbrush in the gutter.)

[personal profile] briochetime 2012-01-25 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
[His smile is small, but sincere nevertheless.]

I am not sure this-- [looking at the dance floor] --is my sort of thing, either.

But perhaps, if we search further, we can find something appropriately useless as well.

[It's a clumsy expression, and he's not proud of it, but he has nothing further to say -- he'll go back to watching the festival for the moment, quiet but making no move to go.]
entreats: (just a single drop of tear)

[personal profile] entreats 2012-01-26 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Something appropriately useless.. At that, Ange can't help but glance towards him out of the corner of her eyes, maybe actually looking just a little surprised - is this kid even for real? But then she actually does take a step to start walking around instead, something very faintly amused about her tone. ]

I don't think standing around here is appropriately useless enough just yet. Let's move.
