[Alastair is not terribly accustomed to heights. He's climbed trees before, but the idea of running across rooftops as a way to travel quickly and easily completely escapes him. But he was told that this is what he must learn, so he might as well get used to it.

Alastair has made his way up to the roof of a building in the Sigyn district. He didn't climb up there, he's not that good yet. No, instead he found a building with roof access and did the sensible thing and climbed the stairs.

So now here he is, sitting on the edge of the roof and looking around the city.

This really doesn't seem like a safe thing to do.

Who came up with this idea anyway?

He sighs.]

- Really?? [Ooh, that's got her attention. She's such a fan of traveling that she's leaning in now, looking intrigued.]

So you got to travel all over, huh?

A little, yes. Not everywhere.

[And it wasn't nearly as exciting as she seems to think it was.]

Then where did you get to travel? [His answer certainly isn't deterring her.]

Mostly just around one land.

[He doesn't know if she knows his last name, he can't remember, but he's not going to mention that he shares his last name with the country itself. It doesn't matter anymore. He's not a prince. Not anymore.]

The villages were pretty small.

[And generally desolated by the Imbalance. It wasn't fun.]

[She's completely clueless as she bumps her shoulder against his.]

Human villages, right? What were those like?

[secondborn]

[He scratches his head.]

I don't know how they're different from... your villages. They're just houses and shops and people living together and helping each other, usually.

[Or at least that's how it should be, but things have gone a little crazy since the Imbalance.]

Do you have guilds? What about bars? Lots of those? What about hunting? - Ooh, and mountains! Did you visit any villages in the mountains??

[secondborn]

A few of them have bars. It depends on the size of the town. [And how much it has been affected by the Imbalance.] Not many guilds. [Not anymore, anyway.] Hunting isn't terribly common in the larger villages, there's a lot of domesticated animals instead.

There aren't a lot of mountains, those are more in the north, close to the border. We don't generally go that far north.

Why not? Is it dangerous? [Are there monsters oh man that would be so exciting!!]

[secondborn]

[No monsters aside from wild animals, unless you count Karonis troops as monsters.]

A little. We're not really welcome across the border.

[Not anymore, anyway.]

[He looks away, out at the city.

This is the part where the already not very open Alastair shuts up.]

[Even Euri's picking up on this being a sensitive subject. She has no idea why, of course, but she has tact!]

Ah.... [Damn, she needs to lighten the conversation up.] What - what's your favourite part of your home?

[secondborn]

[He blinks and glances back at Euri.]

I don't know, my sister, maybe?

[the sudden subject change and his lack of a more interesting or detailed answer is kind of confusing him.]

[She nods. Yes okay this seems slightly better.]

What's she like?

WOW SORRY ABOUT THAT totally screwed up on that one

[He's quiet, thinking about it. Partly because he misses her, and partly because he doesn't want to have to explain how she's the Keeper and has to deal with the Imbalance.]

She... she's incredibly patient and kind, no matter what, really.

...well, not no matter what, but just... a lot more than she needs to be.

[While in reality his response is vague, Euri doesn't know enough about his situation to realize that. To her it sounds like his sister is simply selfless to the point of picking the wellbeing of others over herself.]

She sounds really nice.

[He smiles, and for once it's a real smile, even if it's a small one.]

Hey, what's it like having a sister? I've always wanted a sibling.

[He shrugs, still smiling a little.]

I don't know, what's it like not having one?

Boring. [And lonely.] I only had Dog to play with growing up.

[secondborn]

Honestly we didn't do a lot of playing.

[They were too busy running for their lives and then learning to live with a caravan and managing the Imbalance.]

But I can't really imagine my life without her.

[occulthymns]

It sounds like you're really close. [She is soooo clueless, and she's chuckling a little.] I'm a little jealous.

[secondborn]

[They were all each other had. He shrugs a little.]

I'm sorry you didn't get to have a sibling.

[He's not sorry she didn't have the circumstances that led to how close they ended up being.]
