Sometimes change can be a good thing... I guess it depends on the kind of person you turn into.

[She shrugs, glancing to him.] I'm not the best judge of what that's going to be. People tell me it's better, but it's hard to see when I don't even know how I turn out. They just say it's better. [She chews the inside of her cheek, realizing she's now repeating herself.]

It's hard to trust hearsay. Only you can really be the judge of whether it's better until it actually happens to you... Are you looking forward to it?

[She takes a deep breath and thinks about it.]

I think so. I mean, if what Isaac says happens does actually happen... even with all the bad things that might happen -- I think it'll be okay.

Is that your boyfriend? [ Subtle, Sam. ]

[She ducks her head and laughs a bit. She might even have the slightest hint of color to her cheeks.]

No, no -- he's just someone that knows that future me. From back home. He's helping me here.

Oh. Cool... You must miss your boyfriend back home though, if he's not here.

[better]

[She glances up at him, chewing on her bottom lip as she shakes her head. She's looking at him with a bit of disbelief.]

No, I don't -- I mean, there's no boyfriends back home. [No friends either.]

[ Sam's staring back at her with a bit of disbelief as well. ]

Really? The boys at your school must be dumb and blind... unless you turned them all down for not being your type.

[better]

[She's just gonna laugh, her hands go up to her mouth, covering her smile and amusement.]

Okay, you... you are really odd. I'm just gonna keep walking here. [Her hands go to push through her hair, tugging at it a bit.]

No one's blind, either. I won't comment on the dumb part, but no -- I don't have many friends back home either, so ... yeah. [She turns to continue walking.]

Why are you laughing? I'm serious... and it's not nice to call people odd, y'know. [ His smile is a sign that he's not offended.

He turns to walk alongside her. You're not getting rid of him that easily, Erica. ] I'd like to be your friend, if you give me a chance.

[She doesn't mind him walking with her. She just didn't want to stand there laughing at him continually trying to make her feel better - or whatever he was doing.]

Sorry. [She's actually honest about that, because she actually doesn't want to be mean to him. She just met him.]

It's okay, I've been called way worse than that... [ Kids could be so cruel about the way others looked. ]

I'd like to find out for myself whether you're odd or not. Get to know you... I just thought it'd be cool to have friends my own age here. Like, maybe we bumped into each other for a reason. But if you think I'm a freak then I'll leave you alone...

No, I didn't say that. [She slows her steps a bit.] I said odd, but not a freak.

[Sighing, she glances to him.] I'd like to have someone else to spend time with.

You're right, you didn't. Sorry, I get kinda paranoid that everyone thinks that about me...

[ He gives her a hopeful glance. ] So... friends? [ He holds out his hand to shake, like a dork. ]

[She shakes her head, unsure why anyone would think he's a freak. He seems normal. Maybe that's the point... maybe he was a werewolf at some point or something else.]

I wouldn't say that. [She's trying to reassure him, but she doesn't even really know him. She's not sure if she could explain why she knows how it feels to be excluded to an almost stranger.]

How about on the way to friends? It's only been one conversation. [It's not that she doesn't want to be friends with him -- it's that she's sure eventually he won't want to be friends with her.]

Then you're a lot nicer than the kids at my school...

[ Sam looks a little embarrassed for maybe coming on too strong, but at least she hasn't completely ruled out being friends with him. ] I'm happy with that.

Were you on your way somewhere? I don't want to keep you if there's somewhere you need to be.

[She had been on her way to find that doctor's office... but she'll find it tomorrow.]

I was just wandering. I'm still trying to make sure I know where things are. I... got lost the other day and had to ask someone to come get me.
