[ In the end, Laurent gets ushered out of the castle with more questions than he originally started with. He's somewhat far from the calm state he's usually in, eyebrows knit together with worry lines appearing along his forehead. At the moment, it sounds as though there's no way to get back; he has enough faith in his comrades to know (or at least, hope) they'll be able to defeat Grima. But...

He frowns deeply, stopping just at the side of the street to re-read the letter. Another world that requires saving - but he has no emotional attachments to this one. He could also really care less about a god who hardly acted like one.

The letter slips into a pocket in his robe, to be studied along with the bracelet when he finds his room. That is, if he can find the Welcome Hall, which he can't get to unless he knows where he is.

So he definitely has more questions than before, without a proper source of answer (he had ran the poor maid dry with all the questions he asked - fire magic, really?). The frown's still etched on his face, alternating between glancing up at the streets, then back down at the map. Though if you ask him, he's not lost, thank-you-very-much.

... Okay, maybe he is. ]

[Oh, that was a familiar hat. Familiar enough that Henry just has to edge closer, trying not to get too many hopes up. But with so many new people entering the city, there was surely a better chance, right?

And he was definitely too tall for Ricken, and reminded him more of Miriel besides- but too tall for that too, maybe, so--

Henry doesn't really intend to creep up on him, but nonetheless, the dark mage that pops up behind Laurent might be slightly startling. Especially when he puts a hand on his shoulder to try to figure out- hey that is Laurent, he was right!- and even more so when it turns into a sudden (if brief) hug.]

Laurent! I knew I recognized that frown~

[ Startling... is pretty much accurate. Laurent jumps, turning around while looking appropriately annoyed ---

Until he sees Henry, and the annoyance turns to surprise. Then he gets hugged, and all of a sudden Laurent's wondering if he's dreaming this. Which doesn't make any logical sense, but really, this hug from Henry doesn't make any sense either. ]

Henry..?! [ He carefully stands at an arm's length away from Henry, definitely confused. And shocked. ] I don't - Have you been transported here by these gods as well? [ But that means there were more of them that could be here and... ] Dear gods, the battle...

[Henry just laughs, ignoring (or rather, barely noticing) any shock. Even if he didn't know Laurent or any of the other kids very well, it was still nice to see him.]

Don't see any other way of getting here! But you're slow! I've been here a whole month without a single familiar face.

[Okay, it wasn't that long of a time, but still. He'll keep rambling anyway.]

There was a battle here not that long ago, you totally missed out. I saw a giant wolf eat people, it was amazing! Some of my wounds are still healing, I could show you--

Oh! Grima, how's that coming along back home? Have I died horribly yet?

An entire month? But that's impossible! We had been standing alongside each other [ well, on the same side, but for once he wasn't picky about details. ] a mere hour ago.

[ Though, the more Henry talks, the more it seems as though he's really been at this place for a month. That earns him more stares.

Everything else is typical Henry, which... is that even a good thing? ] Unless they are causing you trouble, I must decline politely.

As mentioned earlier, we had just arrived at our battle with Grima, when I found myself... here. Deaths have been prevented, for now.

Aw, so you don't know any more about how it went either?

[He was a little disappointed at not knowing who died, how many limbs did he lose, etc. Oh, and if the world was saved, he guessed.]

But, uh. Yeah- time doesn't seem to work the same way here. Good to know that everyone was telling the truth, and I'm not missing out on an exceptionally gory demise, nya ha!

[Oh, that was a lot of staring. Henry just smiles back.]

I can try to fill you in on stuff here, but I bet if I give you a couple days, you'll know more than me about the place.

[He really wasn't detail focused. Unless it involved something being mutilated and/or dying.]

Unfortunately not. [ Unfortunate, for all the reasons that was different from Henry's. Mostly because he liked his limbs. ]

Any information you're aware of concerning this world would be of help. [ Even if he planned to find more answers himself, anyway. But background knowledge would help.

Such as the concept of time. ] Oh? How does time work, exactly? Such a thing has never occurred in an Outrealm...

I don't know how time works, exactly... just that any time we spend here doesn't count. If we leave, we pop right back where we were at home, so you don't have to worry about abandoning everyone mid-fight.

[He 'hmm'd a bit, trying to think of anything especially applicable. Of course, the obvious topic springs to mind.]

Death here also doesn't mean anything. I guess the gods don't want to feel like they brought us here for nothing, so we get pieced together and shoved back into the world if we die here. That's... kiiinda the only thing this army has going for it. Most of the people here have never killed a single person, and are totally against it. I've no idea how they've managed to last this long!

Hm... Is that a product of this particular universe, or yet another ability these gods have extended over to its visitors? [ It's a question for more his musings, but it's loud enough for Henry to pick it up.

He makes a mental note to visit the topic again, but moves along with the conversation. ] --- Are you certain? An impermanent death... Then why such an excessive number of soldiers? [ Imagine all the people at home they could have saved. He hums, not entirely content. ] "War" seems to be the inaccurate term to describe this... predicament.

[He has no idea about how time works, and has never really thought about how powers function, so he sticks to war. Death, he can talk about.]

Yep! If you bite it, you just vanish, and then pop up again a few days later, good as new! Everyone still cries their eyes out, which is kinda weird if you ask me, but apparently it's still traumatizing? Who knew!

[He laughs.]

Buuut yeah, not the kind of war I'm used to. You have to train yourself, if you're into that sort of thing, and the number of actual soldiers here is like... next to none. Maybe that's why they keep pulling people in? Overwhelm the enemy in bodies~

It may be the entire idea of death - the idea of a pseudo-immortality is most likely an uncommon concept. Ergo, an image of a loved one's death is still subconsciously a permanent concept. [ That's what Laurent guesses, anyway. He personally doesn't see the point of crying if they're definitely coming back. ]

Ah, yes. These powers would then render our tomes useless, correct? [ Hm. ] What ability have you received, Henry?

Shadow control's mine~ Good thing they give us something, because yep. Tomes are just a stack of paper now. Can't even use the tiniest of hexes, and believe me, I've tried!

[If he minds being stripped of usual magical ability, he doesn't show it.]

What about you? I bet you're in that bookish house- if not, I'll eat a crow, nya ha! Odd- uh, Odin, I think it's called? I forget what powers they get...

[ Laurent, on the other hand, is relieve Henry can't hex anyone - though he doesn't show it, either. ] Shadow control? These abilities do not stray far from our tomes. [ At least it'll be easier to use. ]

Ah - yes. I have been sorted into the house of Odin. [ He clears his throat. ] I have been informed that I am able to control fire.

[Well, there's a face he knows and... knows! Actually, it is a bit of a relief to see someone familiar besides Henry. Laurent might not be the most fun person he knows, but Inigo would still never pass him by, especially upon discovering they've both been thrown into this strange new world.

So when that rather distinctive hat and pair of glasses catches his eye, Inigo wastes no time heading across the street, neatly avoiding a couple pedestrians who almost crash into him. He waves and shouts out while he's still a few feet away.]

Laurent, my four-eyed friend! I didn't think I'd see you here!

[ And another voice he's familiar with. He can't help but cringe internally at the name, but turning to see Inigo at least proves his suspicion that more of them have appeared in this strange new world. He has faith in his remaining comrades, but he's seen three of them here already. Which... only makes Laurent even more nervous. ]

Inigo. [ A nod. He didn't sneak up like Henry, so Laurent's not surprised. ] To be frank, I had not expected to find myself in such a foreign location. In mere moments before a decisive battle, at that... it is rather concerning.

Tell me, have you come across any of the others?

Yeah, I was worrying about that myself. How can we be sure things'll go all right if we're not there? But they tell me time doesn't pass at home while we're here, so... [A shrug.] It's like a vacation! Time to let your hair down, Laurent.

And I ran into Henry, but that's it. Well, until you.

Definitely not! [ There's just the biggest frown on Laurent's face right now. ] We must put all out efforts into returning as quickly as possible - it is unwise to enter into another's fight without resolving our own. It is hardly a vacation.

Oh, sure, that's all true, but Laurent - [his voice gets hushed] - have you seen the girls here? Lovely lasses from all sorts of worlds! It's a buffet of beauty for the eyes! Even you should be able to take advantage of it and meet someone nice! Someone who likes glasses and overlarge vocabularies.

[ Speaking of glasses - Laurent raises his hands to adjust them, pushing them back up on his face. ] I have no interest. Especially in a world where our stay will only be temporary. Why waste one's energy on such trivial manner? [ ... Yeah.

He pauses for a moment, before continuing on. ] Have you been informed of the god you were chosen by?

It's not trivial!

[He's shocked, Laurent, shocked, that you would say such a thing! Hitting on girls is vastly important!

But he shakes his head, gives Laurent a disapproving look, and moves on.]

Freya, it seems, but I haven't had a chance to learn much about the different gods yet.

There are far more urgent items that demand our attention. [ Like, as he said a billion times, getting back home. How are they going to finish this war if half the population is stuck here?! Gods. ] With them in mind, it can most certainly be considered trivial.

Hm. [ A pause. ] It would be helpful to learn of the different gods. It seems as though those with similar characters have been placed in the same house.

Finding pretty girls is very important! How are we supposed to concentrate on other things if we haven't done that yet? And anyway, some of them might be able to help. [Or something.]

Yes... I did get that impression. So you must be in the bookworm house, then, right?

Because those relationships will be temporary. Returning will be a permanent solution.

... I also do not recall success in... any of your attempts. [ ... Sorry Inigo. But Laurent's gotta say what he's gotta say, apparently. ] Though, if they are aware of how we are able to return to Ylisse, they could be of great assistance.

[ He clears his throat. ] My house, according to the strange maid, value knowledge over all others. And yours?

Just because something's temporary doesn't mean it's meaningless! [But ouch, Laurent, ouch. That's a low - albeit true - blow.] I'll find some ladies who can help us out, and I'll be successful! You'll see!

[He probably won't see.]

Freya's house values love, of course! The most important thing of all.

Perhaps not, but would permanence not take precedence over temporary solutions? [ He'll humor Inigo though, because that was a low blow. ] I wish you all the best.

And Henry's house, Hel, values death. These gods seem to be rather... unorthodox.
