Don't I know it...

[She shakes her head.]

Is anybody else here from Beacon Hills?

[There's a soft smile.]

A lot of people, actually. It's sort of odd almost. Isaac, who is my roommate right now because his door got broken down, Derek, Scott, Allison, Stiles, Lydia - they're all from Beacon Hills. Isaac and I are both in Hel, but he has shadow control. I have body control.

They're actually all from my future, so it's a bit complicated. They know me a lot better than I know them.

I ran into that already. Damon doesn't know as much as I do. Complicated doesn't seem to begin to cover it.

[She's gotten more use to relying on him than she realized. And now it's back to square one overnight.]

Do you wish he was up to speed with you? I mean, if you could choose it.

[Elena looks away from Erica for a moment to think about it. Things have been difficult with Stefan's humanity off. Elena's been fighting for her life and trying to protect the people she loves and cares about all the while trying to reach the Stefan she knows with hardly any success.]

[And Damon's been there for her. Through all of it. She appreciates it and in a way, she's proud of him, too. He's finally starting to act like the man he's more than capable of being. She cares about him and they're friends, but that's where the line is. And he crossed it when he kissed her on the porch.]

[She should be angry with him for it. Damon probably thinks of it more as betraying Stefan, but Elena also sees it as a betrayal to their friendship. But she isn't angry about it or at him, she's angrier with herself because she knows she kissed back. She crossed a line, too. Elena can't just blame it on feeling alone or scared simply because of what's happening to Stefan. She knows it's on her. But try as she might to forget it ever happened or sweep it under the rug as just a fluke, it's easier said than done.]

[She'd braced herself for Damon and she got something entirely different than she had been expecting. She's equal parts relieved and more confused than before. On the one hand, she doesn't have to deal with things. On the other, she knows she can't trust Damon now. Not even the friendship they've managed to build is there right now and she's not sure how she can possibly build it all over again knowing more than he does. It doesn't seem fair. If she didn't know what to do before, she's definitely at a loss now.]

I wish things were different.

[Erica won't press for more. In truth, she realizes how unfair it is for her to ask these things. She's still curious and still wonders if that's how the people who know her feel. She knows how different she is, how she can't really seem to find that balance where everyone just knows her and trusts her. The way Isaac seems to worry, the way they all do. The fact that they talk about her while she's in the room, as if she's not really Erica at all.]

[She knows they don't mean it. She's sure that Elena doesn't mean anything bad with what she says either. But, different is still an answer and it still means not the way it is now.]

People have gone back home and returned. Sometimes with new memories. That could happen for your friend Damon, too.

[Pausing, Erica tries to think about how to word this next part.]

Or, you can see how being here has given him something different for himself. The people and things that happen here -- they could make it different, just not the way you're familiar with.

[That gives Elena both hope and a sense of dread. Damon's easy to push over the edge. It's pulling him back that's the hard part. And not finding Katherine in the tomb was a huge push. It took a long time to undo the damage Katherine did. Maybe there's less of a chance for something else to keep pushing Damon here, but Elena's also pretty certain there's less here to pull him back, too.]

The last thing he remembers... [Elena shakes her head a little.] He thinks that's the worst of it, but it got worse. And he started giving up on everything. It's not perfect now, but it got better eventually.

[He was better.]

So, I just hope he's managed to avoid some of it and it's been better for him here than it was back home.

[For Erica these things hit home a bit for her. She's heard bits and pieces of what people are willing to tell her. Things they think she'll be okay hearing. As grateful as she is for the fact that they're wanting to keep her safe, she's also dreading the day when everything comes out.]

I'm sure it'll even out eventually. Or you'll just learn more about this version of him and it'll be something you barely notice.

[Elena's skeptical about that, but she takes into consideration that Erica's coming from a similar place as Damon though it's definitely not the same thing. Erica's clearly not the same kind of person as Damon by a long stretch.]

[She nods and keeps that skepticism to herself.]

Whatever it ends up being, it doesn't change who he is. He's still Damon, that still makes him my friend.

[And hey, what's one more Salvatore to have to try and find the good parts in underneath all the bad?]

[Erica nods and smiles.]

Which house did you get put into?

Oh, I'm in Freya. The maid said I have charm.

I know someone that lives in Freya. I think he has Charm too. Scott McCall. He's from Beacon Hills.

[She can deduce that Erica's on good terms with Scott from the tone, but...]

Is he a close friend of yours?

It's... he knows future me. I haven't actually gotten to know him very well before I showed up here. [Her life is very complicated.]

I've gotten to know him here, though, and he's a friend.

[It's the mountain lion attacks. They have that effect. :(]

[But seriously, if he's a friend of Erica's, Elena can readily assume he's probably not a bad person to know.]

If I manage to track him down, I'll be sure to say you sent me.

He owns a pet shop. It's called Allison's... after his girlfriend, Allison. She's here too. I don't know her at all, though.

Allison's.

[...Because what else are you supposed to say to that when you're trying really hard not to point out ~~the obvious~~ how... unusual that is.]

Should be easy to remember... I guess.

[Erica shrugs.]

She was new last year... sort of the instant popularity type, I guess.

Everybody's gotta check out the new kid. Especially if there aren't often that many new kids to begin with.

Probably true. [Erica nods.]

Did you maybe want to go get something to eat? I can probably find something in whatever house is close to here. [Sure, she'll steal from a rival house's kitchen.]

[Why not?]

Sure, I'd like that.

Good. We'll just go in here! [There is a random house and they go in and get some random food and they eat! Yay! Future friends in the making.]
