[OPEN] Holes: Reapers (PG-13)

Who: EVERYONE being haunted by/hunting the ghosts/Reapers
What: An Introduction to Holes
When: Day 312 (August 17/18)
Where: The Dark Carnival/all across the city
Rating: PG-13. Anything higher than that should be taken to the R-rated log and label any possible content warnings or triggers in your comment title, please!

[ On Day 312 (August17/18), the Reapers that were floating listlessly around the hospital have found new victims to manipulate. They can be found in the Dark Carnival instead, twisting the otherwise peaceful spirits that usually meander around the theme park into violent vengeful spirits.

These angry spirits, driven by the Reapers, will take to the city and will target Travellers whose circumstances remind them of their own. The spirit of a woman killed by her lover may go after a man who has been violent to women in his past; the spirit of a boy dead from drowning may go after someone who has nearly drowned before. Their only purpose is to achieve “vengeance” for their untimely deaths, and they will seek this vengeance out wherever they can throughout the city. Take care, Travellers, for the night is dark and full of terrors or your past may come back to haunt you. ]

[ OOC NOTES: This is the PG-13 mingle log for the Introduction to Holes Reaper plot. These spirits will not rest until they are either banished, brought to peace, or the Reapers are dealt with. A thread for plotting out how to seal the Reapers off is over here. Please be sure to include your character's location(s) and [OPEN/CLOSED] in the subject line, along with any possible trigger warnings. The R-rated log for threads with heavier content can be found here. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns! ]

[Gaara had been wary of the Reapers ever since Euri mentioned them, on the previous day. They still weren't interacting with anyone, but he doubted they were completely harmless either. There was nothing that he could do in the meantime, except resume his usual routine with training, and then work at the magic shop.

By the time his shift had ended, there was information posted on the network with regards to the newly-emerged spirits. Gaara read about the wards, but didn't bother responding, once he acquired the necessary knowledge. He needed to get indoors, and quickly. He trusted that Naruto and Sasuke would respond accordingly as well... Maybe not the former, so much, but Gaara would check in with him, soon enough.]

...?

[On his way back to the Odin household, the Suna ninja noticed a group of spirits surrounding... something. He observed the scene for a few moments in silence, noting that whatever was trapped in the middle didn't seem to be moving. Had the victim died?

Hardening his gaze, Gaara took out a talisman and fearlessly walked forward, causing the spirits to scatter away from him. Upon reaching the middle of the ring, he caught sight of a small fox on the ground... with nine tails. For a fleeting moment, he thought of Naruto. Shaking his head, Gaara knelt down to inspect it more closely, and then wondered if anyone in this world even knew how to treat an animal's wounds.]

[Soushi had no idea on the best way to fight against spirits as he has never had experiences with ghosts before, oddly enough. Demons, on the other hand, were not an issue for him because he can easily get rid of those in his demon form. However, in Asgard, he was not only useless, but defenseless as he was not allowed to transform into such a form. And to make matters even worse, he was transformed into a fox without any type of power, he was only an animal with his thoughts intact.

Playing dead, it was the only idea he had decided to use, in hopes, to keep the spirits away. Even so, he should have known better. Spirits are not easy to fool especially when they can sense and clearly notice the differences between their state and his own. He could not fool them. But he was too tired and injured to continue to fight or run, so he decided to allow them to take his life as he would not be able to get out of this one.

At least, those were his thoughts until he took notice of a new scent nearby. He will slowly open his mismatched eyes, in order to understand his current situation. To say the least, he was surprised by two things: 1) the spirits were further away from him now, and 2) there was someone he somewhat recognized close by. Why were the spirits not attacking him? Did it have to do with his past and memories? Or was he going to pay for his past crimes while the other man did not have any crimes to speak of?

Whatever the case may be, Soushi will raise his head and slowly turn to show he was alive, but slightly injured as he got onto his three healthy paws and held the injured one out. There will be a questioning bark, or close to one as he could muster. How was the other young man able to keep the spirits from him?]

[If Gaara had any hint as to what the other was thinking, he would have snorted with disbelief. Without the effects of the talisman, there was in doubt in his mind that he would get attacked by ghosts as well. There were too many dead bodies associated with his sordid past. He felt fairly certain that some of them, like Yashamaru, would desire revenge against him.

Understanding the gesture, Gaara bypassed the offered paw and carefully gathered the small fox within his arms. With animals, at least, he didn’t have to worry as much about being rejected for giving physical contact.]
Are you capable of speaking? [And then, after a long enough pause to let it answer.] Can you comprehend human speech?

[It might have seemed like a strange question to ask, but considering he had encountered summon animals that could talk, this wasn’t a farfetched concept for him.

Unfortunately, he could still see the spirits gathered around them, waiting for their next chance to strike. Frowning slightly, Gaara started walking again, heading toward the Odin house. There was a symbol he would need to draw onto his door and window as soon as he got inside, per advisement of a fellow foreigner.]

[The small fox did not mind being held by someone else at the moment. He was tired and weak from running all over Asgard, trying to get away from the spirits that were chasing after him. However, once the other person began to speak, his ears will rise as he turns his attention to the other young man. To the first question, he will simply shake his head side to side to signal that he could not speak in his current form. The second question, on the other hand, he will offer both a single bark and nod to his head.

He understood human speech, but was unable to speak. It would seem the gods decided he should look and act the part except keep his human self intact.

When the young man began to move, Soushi will take notice of the spirits following after them while keeping distance from them. There was no words escaping their lips. No. They only held their weapons and followed after them as though they were hoping the young man would release him or worse throw him towards them.

Offering another bark as though trying to get the attention of the one holding him. Listen to him. Yap, Yap. He wants to know where you are taking him.]

[So the fox could bark in response. Turning the cogs inside his mind, he quickly came up with a code for communication, which was common practice for shinobi.] When you are presented with an affirmative or negative question, bark once to answer “yes” and bark twice to answer “no.” Is this acceptable to you?

[There were other ghosts starting to approach them. Grimly, Gaara had to wonder if some of them were associated with him, rather than the fox. In all honesty, what terrible transgressions could a fox possibly be responsible for? Killing other animals? Causing destruction of property? The notion itself was ludicrous.]

We must leave, quickly. [He muttered lowly to the forlorn little creature.] I can apply seals… rather, wards, to repel the spirits. They should not be able to attack you within those confines.

[Approaching the door to the house, Gaara lifted the fox up to his face, light turquoise eyes searching its features with blatant curiosity.] Or do you wish to be freed instead? I don’t possess the healing ability. You seem to require… medical attention.

[The other person's idea sounded reasonable enough to him. He will offer him a single yap in confirmation. However, it did not fully solve his communication problem, he will have to find another way to communicate with the other person or anyone a little later. Right now, there was no time for it.

So remaining in the other young man's arms as he slightly lowers his head onto his arm while his nine tails will begin to slightly move from side to side, he could not help allow his mismatches eyes to turn to the other spirits arriving to the scene. Do they all belong to him? Soushi was uncertain to whom they were drawn to as they were not speaking like earlier. The small fox will lift his ears, in hopes, of remaining alert while he tried to rest.

His attention will return to the young man as he begins to explain over seals that can repel spirits. Where did he hear or learn this information from? Did he know about it all ready? If only he could ask him those question, but for the time being he will stay put until he heard him ask over his freedom and medical attention. The fox will look at his injured paw and knew he was injured in other areas as his body is currently aching. He will lift two of his tails out of the nine. The first of those two tails will wag as he offers three barks as a response to his freedom as a "allow me to think about it" or "maybe" while his second tail will wag as he offers a first yip. He agrees with the idea of medical attention, but for the initial inquiry he was uncertain over his answer for the time being. He really does not wish to be alone as long as those spirits or reapers continue to roam Asgard.

Hopefully his message was somewhat understood.]

…?

[The redhead blinked with some confusion, brows furrowing as he tried to decipher what the fox was trying to tell him. It had barked three times, so that meant it didn’t answer yes or no to his question. A third option… hmm. Could be a maybe instead. At the very least, for the time being, he couldn’t let it wander around outside in this state, with so many enemies present.]

I can release you at a later time… once you have recovered.

[That seemed like a logical enough solution. He had no intention of keeping the fox captive against its will. Keeping it protectively covered within his arms, Gaara entered the house and swiftly walked into his room. Once there, he set the fox down onto his bed, and then picked up an ink brush to immediately begin drawing the ward symbol over the window. Even so, he could catch glimpses of the ghosts lingering outside, presumably wanting to torment the inhabitants. He repeated the process on his door, and after that, returned the brush to his desk.

With a quiet sigh, he sat down on the edge of the mattress, closing his eyes for a moment to reflect on the situation at hand. How was he going to treat the fox? His medical knowledge was limited, as he had never undergone the same training as medical ninja. And his ice ability… it could reduce the swelling of tissues and possibly slow down blood flow. Would that be enough to help the fox?

Comforting was certainly not his forte, but he muddled over the idea for some time, and finally decided to try it. Tentatively, he reached toward the fox’s numerous tails, and gently ran his fingers across one of them. His curious gaze ran down the short length of its body, gauging what injuries he could address, and what others he would need to pass along to someone else.]

You have a sex, correct? [Not that the fact really mattered in the grand picture, but it helped for Gaara to give the fox some kind of identity rather than regard it as a thing.]

[Soushi will watch the other individual as closely as he can because he was finding him quite curious. He was very kind, was all his mind could easily realize. Kind, awkward, and wise. He was beginning to remind him greatly of his own master. She was just like him too. Except for the harsh tongue and language, that is. He didn't possess it.

Once he was placed upon the mattress, Soushi will silently watch the other boy paint a seal over the door. He could not help wonder if the other individual should add a seal to the windows in the room as well. He will have to somehow ask the other over it later. For the time being, he will watch and silently head over to his side as to somehow comfort him as he places his head onto his lap. Dogs usually did this action, so maybe it is used to comfort others. He will offer a slight whine to add the effect of a comforting dog.

How does a fox comfort a human in these times? Or even offer their gratitude? If only he had a way to do so.

Well, it won't be long until his thoughts will disappear as he felt a hand on his tail. Eh? His tails will stiff, at first, as Soushi did not expect the gesture. He has never been touched by the tails before, not even in his demon form. But, wasn't there a time that....? His mind will feel heavy as he begins to hear the following memory be heard through his ears:

Miketsukami-kun's are definitely big and fluffy, began to speak a soft and delicate female voice that only could belong to one person -- his master, Ririchiyo Shirakiin. It won't be long until he heard his own voice answer, the voice of his past self, Ah...to say it's "big"... He will begin to shyly chuckle.

Even though this current version wished to ignore the memory, he could not help allow the tail currently being rubbed to begin to happily wag while the rest of the tails begin to softly reach over for the other individual's hand, almost asking for attention too.

At the mention of his sex, Soushi had no idea how to answer his question without being rude about it. How does he tell him his own name? What a bother. Soushi will begin to think over the matter, but he couldn't think with his tails being given attention, so he will add distance between him and the young man for a bit. He will begin to fluffy his fur as he tries to shake off the feeling to be petted like a dog. If Gaara paid close attention, then he might notice a silver band hidden under his fur around his neck. It might be the bracelet in form of collar with the brown jewel symbolizing his representative god and full name engraved around his neck.]

[Having never owned a pet – that sentimentality in itself would have probably sent his late father into a lecturing rage – Gaara had no predisposition over how the fox should act. It did strike him a bit curious that it shared some features with a dog, but he supposed it was similar to how lions and tigers shared some features with cats. He continued to gently stroke the fox, all the while having no idea whether or not he was supposed to do this. It was just something he had observed other people doing before in his village, when they were walking their dogs or playing with their cats. The fox didn’t seem to object, if the way its tails moved toward him was any indication. A faint smile gracing his lips, Gaara shifted his attention over to the other tails, touching each one of them with the same careful precision.

Although hearing the whine elicited a slight frown to crease his brows. Was there something wrong with it? Aside from the obvious injuries. When it moved away from his touch, he bent down to take a closer look, and caught sight of the band, instantly assuming it was some kind of collar. Did this mean the fox had an owner? One of the natives of this world, or perhaps another foreigner?

Soushi Miketsukami. Assigned to the Loki household, by indication of the jewel color. Gaara activated his bracelet to look up the directory, and located that name after a few minutes. So this fox was… a fellow foreigner that had been kidnapped to this world. He would have assumed the gods wanted human warriors, but this fox did have nine tails. If it was anything like the nine-tailed fox from his home world, then this small and seemingly-harmless creature was capable of great powers.]

......

[Gaara had been told about the gods’ ability to inflict various curses, but he didn’t quite draw that line between the dots yet. He hadn’t been exposed to the concept at firsthand. For now, he sought to figure out its name. That wasn’t enough for him to draw a definitive conclusion on its gender, but at least he could call it something as opposed to simply “fox.”]

Is your name Soushi Miketsukami?

[And then, keeping the injuries as an important forefront in his mind…]

Are you bleeding anywhere?
discrepant: (⋙ ponder)

[The ruffling of his fur did help in locating where his body was currently in pain. All the cuts and bruises were easier to feel and locate as he begins to lick his paw and other parts of his figure. Thanks to the other young man, he was entirely certain his tails were all right. Over time, he will finally take notice of his own bracelet as he began to feel discomfort around his neck. He will use his more healthy hind paw to scratch the source of the object. Was this what happened to his bracelet? Maybe.

Even so, at the mention of his name, he will alertly turn towards the other warrior as he offers a bark as a reply. Indeed, that is his name. While at the mention of his injuries, he will offer him another bark in confirmation as he begins to lick his hurt paw, behind his back were scratches that were located under his fur, and he was certain he has a large bruise on his left side of his belly as it is beginning to bother him now. But how to express it all other than pointing with his nose.

Maybe that was the best way to do this.

He will lay on the right side of his belly as he points to the left side. Luckily he had dodged most of the blows especially the ones from sharp objects. He will begin to whine as he does so before turning his attention to his injured paw which he will begin to lick. His back might not be bleeding as much, but there should be some signs of having been struck somehow. He will whine sadly as he does so, in order, to invite the other to get closer.]

[He nodded in acknowledgement. Soushi. It had a name now. And it was a fellow warrior, so… he had to wonder how it was keeping up with training efforts. He lightly tapped the collar and mused out loud.] Typically, a collar signifies ownership… Do you belong to someone in the Loki household? [Because if so, then Gaara needed to return the fox to its owner. Perhaps its master was someone from the same home world?]

…?

[Turquoise eyes clouded over with sympathy as he inspected those wounds in his side, and then the injured paw. He kept his touch airy and tentative, not wanting to aggravate any of its injuries. The red color was certainly easy to hide, amongst all of that dark black fur. Hearing the longer shrill whine, he pursed his lips together for a moment, reaching a decision inside his mind. ]

Soushi. I can attempt to decrease the flow of blood in the injury sites, as well as diminish the swelling. Bear in mind that you will experience low temperatures, which may induce a numbing effect. [He made no move to activate his ability just yet, wanting to give the other a chance to think about it before answering.] Will you give me your consent?

[If only he could explain over the curses and the fact that he did serve a master, but was not in the same world as they were currently part of. So the small fox will bark twice to signify that he did not belong to anyone. While he thought of it, it did make him wonder if his abilities were currently active or not. Would he be able to use his given abilities? Even in this form?

Right now, he decided it would be best to recover before trying out the theory over the matter. His mismatched golden and own turquoise eyes will stare back at the other warrior's eyes. He was beginning to realize the type of power he held between the two available abilities -- ice.

He knew the benefits ice held over injuries if used correctly. For the time being, it might be the only way to keep his injuries from getting infected especially when there is no telling when the spirits will leave, so it would be for the best.

Soushi only had one answer to offer the other boy in the form of a confirmation bark and using his good paw to touch his hand as a way to express his gratitude for his help. He really does appreciate it and trusts him enough to try and aid him.]

[Gaara nodded in response to both answers, and lightly shook the offered paw, a gesture he had observed from some of the other foreigners. It didn’t seem like bowing was a typical custom in this world, not that he was eager to lower his head to anyone. The collar had to be used for something else, then. Come to think of it, where was the communication bracelet? Was the collar taking its place for that particular function? It had to serve some kind of purpose. But they could figure that out later, after more important matters were addressed first.]

Remain still.

[His brows furrowed in concentration as frost began to form over the wound on the fox’s side. He willed it not to spread too far out, focusing the icy effect on the injured area alone. He didn’t have to keep his hand on it, and briefly considered moving on to address the other wounds as well, but then realized that Soushi might not be comfortable with experiencing too much cold temperature at once.

Keeping that in mind, Gaara drew up the blanket and bundled it around the small fox, providing some insulation. All the while, he continued to mentally apply the frost, noting a physical change in the air surrounding that area. He didn’t want to sustain the frigid sensation for too long, or the fox would lose circulation in its blood. Even more so because it had a smaller body than humans. So he stopped after another minute or two, and carefully brushed the black fur aside to inspect the wound.]

[Obeying the other individual's orders to keep still, Soushi will lay down and not move an inch while he begins to empty his mind and detach himself from his body. A tactic he has easily learned during the darkest days of his life. It was quite useful especially during times of war and battles as he almost never felt any pain from bullet wounds or stab wounds unless it was aimed directly at a sensitive area.

He will make a single noise nor will he move as he allows the other individual to use his ability to help protect and close some of his wounds.

When he heard the questions being asked, Soushi will take notice of the blanket wrapped around him along with the ice in his body. He did not feel any pain or discomfort. As long as he was not bleeding internally or losing a piece of himself, then he was at peace.

A bark will be given as confirmation over feeling fine and comfortable. His head will lay down as his ears will droop. How long will he be stuck in his form for? How long does a curse last? And how will he communicate? He could not help feel some concern over the matter as he allows a lone whine to escape. What is he going to do so now?]

[personal profile] no_dreams_for_you 2013-08-28 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[His expression eased a little from relief at the bark, as well as the sight of frozen blood clinging to the black fur. As long as blood didn’t continue to flow out, his body should begin to heal naturally.

Gaara started to move his hand toward a different wound, when he heard the low whine.]
…What is it? Are you in pain?

[A logical conclusion to draw, since he wasn’t a medical expert by any stretch of the imagination. He still didn’t know Soushi was under the effects of a curse, and couldn’t understand what else could be bothering him. Or perhaps…] Do you need something to eat?

[…What did foxes even consume? Other smaller mammals? Did they have any dietary restrictions?]

[Soushi's attention will return to the other man as he quietly listens to him. How can he tell him what that whine was for? How? He was having a difficult time trying to find a proper way of communication as he can tell that Gaara was a novice in the field of medicine and animal care.

Of course, it could not be helped because even he was at a loss over the matter except for food. He knew he ate like a fox even as a human. His clan made certain to teach him that much, at least, during his time of imprisonment.

The small creature will turn his attention to Gaara as he barks twice to both questions. He was not hungry. He was not in pain. He was only lamenting over having lost his ability to speak. How to explain it to him? How?

Without meaning to, one of Soushi's tails will turn to the ground as it begins to spell out his feelings. If Gaara takes notice of his tail, then he might realize it is trying to communicate with him or that the tail is simply acting odd.]

[No to both questions… His brows furrowed with confusion. But as long as Soushi wasn’t in pain, he could continue his ministrations. With that in mind, Gaara started working on applying his ice ability to the next area, focusing most of his concentration on it.

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught movement from one of the fox’s tails. It was moving independently from the others. Trying to tell him something? Not that a tail was capable of speech, but writing…

His gaze drifted toward the desk, where he had left his ink brush. After he was finished taking care of the present injury, he rose from the bed and went to retrieve the writing instrument. He return to the little fox’s side with it, and extended the thin handle in offering. He logically assumed that if Soushi could understand human speech, then it might also be capable of written language.]

[Allowing Gaara to continue his work, the small fox will begin to relax as fatigue began to quickly overcome him the more his body began to relax. His tail will continue to write the same message that he was desperate to inform Gaara over. He was human. He was under a curse. Along with wishing to offer his gratitude for having rescued him as well.

Just when Soushi was about to give up over the matter, Gaara surprises him by offering him an ink brush to use. Could it be that he noticed his tail moving around? Soushi will raise his head and slightly turn his attention to his tail, which had seize from moving and was simple limping like the others.

Well. It could be a good idea to offer his message to the other young man. He will offer a single bark as he wraps a tail around the object. Where should he write his message in? On the floor? Might as well.

Soushi's tail will begin to move with some difficulty, but he needed to get the message across. On the floor, the following will be written:

[While Soushi was looking around for writing space, the redhead went back to his desk to get several sheets of paper. He spread them across the ground, using tape to hold them together. If ink was anything like blood, he knew from experience that it would be difficult to remove, regardless of the surface.

Patiently, he stood back and waited, watching with avid curiosity as the black-furred tail moved across the floor, applying inked strokes to the paper. When the message was completed, Gaara stepped closer to read it.]

Human… [Euri had mentioned curses to him before, but this was his first time actually witnessing someone under its effects.] So your form was altered by the gods. As punishment… [At least, that was his understanding.

Beyond that, his knowledge was fairly limited. His expression softening a bit with sympathy, he followed up with another question.]
Do you know how long you will remain in this body?

[The pieces of paper that stick to the ground was most appreciated as the small fox did not wish to create too much of a mess. His only hope was for his message to be both readable and understandable as he did not have much visual control over his writing.

It was difficult enough holding the writing instrument by using a tail or two.

At the first question, he will offer a single bark in response. The deities had changed his form from human to animal, but thankfully he kept his human mind and thought process. Although, he did feel his more animistic instincts trying to take him over, but he should be fine in keeping himself from acting out of line for the time being.

Now the second question, the small fox's ears will droop as his eyes close while shaking his head side to side. Two whines will be offered as a way to explain that he was entirely uncertain over the matter. He will lower his body down as he places his head down.]

......

[The fox seemed distressed, from his sudden change in demeanor. Again, Gaara didn't know how to offer it comfort, and simply stared down at it in silent contemplation for a few minutes. Finally, he sat back upon the bed, and made a gesture at the space beside his legs.]

Soushi. You should rest. Your body is still fatigued. If you are in need of something... [He trailed off, but believed that Soushi understood his intentions. They had a method of communication now, even if it was a shaky one. He would need to spread more pages out over the floor, in preparation of its future messages.]

[The small fox will turn his attention towards Gaara, who was now sitting on his bed, with his weak golden gaze and lifted ear at his direction. He will ponder over the idea of laying on the bed instead of remaining by the ground for a bit. The bed did seem like the most comfortable spot to rest.

Lifting himself from the ground, he will head towards the bed at a comfortable pace, so he would not hurt his injured paw more than he should. He will lay by Gaara's side while placing his head on the other boy's lap, where he will bark once, but then he will point towards the paper on the ground where the words "Thank you" will be seen.]
