BOX BREAKING/EVENT MINGLE: THE GENTLEMEN

Who: EVERYONE still in the city on Days 346-348 (Oct 24-29)!
What: The Gentlemen event mingle/box breaking log.
When: Days 346-348 (Oct. 24-29)
Where: Throughout the city.
Rating: PG-13, for mentions of murder/death. Anything too explicit or graphic should be taken to a separate log, please!

Before dawn on Day 346 (Oct. 24), an odd red light will appear in the sky in the general direction of Muspellheim. It's not the sun rising early and it's not a glow cloud, just a single, large streak across the sky that might look like a crack. Seconds after it appears, a rumbling sound will accompany a small earthquake that might break a few dishes or rattle anything not secured off of its perch, nothing terribly destructive. The earthquake lasts about three minutes.

From this point onward, all living creatures in Asgard will be mute.

Beneath the cut is the brief TL;DR of the event, but the plot rundown HERE can provide you with all of the information you need about breaking the boxes, stopping the murders, and saving the day! Remember that your characters are voiceless, so feel free to get creative with how you're communicating across the city.

A brief rundown by day:

Day One ( Day 346 / Oct. 24/25 ): A small earthquake rattles the city for three minutes. Everyone loses their voices. Two people will die late at night with their hearts cut from their chests.

Day Two (Day 347 / Oct. 26/27): The bodies are found. Buffycast will do their best to explain the situation and people will start looking for the "box" only to realise there's more than one. Two more people will die.

Day Three (Day 348 / Oct. 28/29): Two more people will die. The last box will be destroyed right as they're cutting into the third and final victim. Screams of the victims will be heard across the city and the Gentlemen will die.

Everyone is voiceless for this event. No screaming or coughing or anything of the sort. This applies to animals and possibly even the gods; if you try to ring them up, they won't be answering. Voices will return by late evening of Day 348 (Oct. 29).

[ Please include the IC day (ex. Day 338 - that can be found in the info beneath the cut!) and OPEN/CLOSED in your top-level comment or your subject line when starting a thread. There WILL BE headers for the different districts, with a box-breaking thread beneath each header, but you ARE WELCOME to make your own threads beneath those headers for your characters OR to make new headers of your own. ]

[It's almost like he'd arrived at the perfect moment to catch these Travelers, and he isn't going to complain. Each of the districts being so large, he'll need all the help he can get to find something as small as the boxes.

Out comes the pad of paper he'd brought with him for the purpose of communication.]

Looks like we all had the same idea. Where have you all looked so far? We can save some time if we rule those places out.

[Ninian shakes her head, then pulls a small notepad and a pen from her MC bag. Her "proper" reply comes in a short message.]

I'm afraid I have no leads. And it looks like there's nothing in the Welcome Hall itself...

[In truth, Jane hadn't looked anyplace - she wouldn't know where to start. But there are some things that can be eliminated, and she's scribbling furiously.]

They struck in the Welcome Hall. It's too risky to leave their box so close to one of their crimes. Maybe it's someplace unexpected?

[Elphaba is sorely missing her voice already--her hand aches quite a bit from all the writing she's had to do, and she's run through a pad of paper and a lot of pens already, and so it takes her some time to get to the group, as she's gone to acquire some paper and a pen first.

She recognizes Ninian, and Jane, and proceeds to walk on over to observe silently. Then she scribbles something out as well:]

So we can rule out the Welcome Hall, then. I'm not sure it can be very far either, though.

[Sandy, for his part, has not missed his voice in the least, but it's deeply unsettling that so many other people are quiet. Despite being a spirit of sleep and dreams, he's used to the noise and activity made by other people.

He takes out his sketchpad, already cursing the fact that his tattoo has not yet healed to allow him to write in the air, and draws a map of Sigyn, carefully shading out the areas he has already checked. He had wandered into a lot of native businesses and explained about the boxes. He asked them to look through their own stores on the off chance that the box is somewhere in there, and they're to destroy it if they do find it. He doubts that it's somewhere so populated, though.]
dragonspeak: (Okay--let's just think about this)

[Merlin leans in closer to get a better look at Sandy's drawing. He studies it and looks up after a second.]

That narrows it down a lot. I asked around and no one around here has seen those things around.

[It goes without saying that the creatures would be hard to miss if they are wandering the city. Merlin carefully shades in a portion of the Sigyn district's middle area on Sandy's map.]

The box must be hidden really well.

[They have quite the work to do... Ninian tries not to let that get to her. She already promised to help and won't back off no matter what.]

... Is there any other place where they could find potential victims easily? Where illnesses are healed, or people are taken care of?
cyan_maid: (I really don't...)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2013-11-03 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Just the idea of these things preying on people who can't defend themselves makes Jane sick to her stomach, and she doesn't want to think it's true. But it makes a lot of sense. They're monsters, but surely anything that could make their job easier would be ideal.

More scribbles, but these are to the point.]

Doctor's office? Hospital? Old folk's home?
unnaturallygreen: (no good deed goes unpunished)

[personal profile] unnaturallygreen 2013-11-04 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
The hospital's nearest, I believe.

[Her pen presses just a bit too deep, as she writes this. She doesn't put it past these Gentlemen (oh, the irony) to try preying on someone who's too sick to fight back--after all, that'd just make it easier for them.]
morethanadream: (I glances)

[personal profile] morethanadream 2013-11-05 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
[If it bothers Sandy that the Gentlemen would target the weak, it doesn't show. He does, after all, make sense. If one requires something to continue fighting, the next logical step is to get that thing by the easiest means available; in this case, the resource is literal hearts, and thus it would be easiest to obtain said resource by cutting them out of people too weak to defend themselves. He has seen far too much violence to be shocked by this.

And he's also seen too much to sit around twiddling his thumbs. He gestures for the others to come along and starts walking on the road to the hospital. He remembers where it is from his arrival.]
dragonspeak: (Please don't think any differently of me)

[personal profile] dragonspeak 2013-11-05 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
[It's true, those weak from injury or illness might be the easiest targets, but Merlin's been at the hospital working. No one's mentioned seeing the creatures lurking around.

Still, it wouldn't hurt to have a look. The hospital's large, and the Gentlemen might have managed to sneak in without anyone noticing. Merlin follows Sandy's lead, only scribbling another message once they've arrived at the building.]

Terminal ward first?

[Of all the patients, those would be the weakest, and easiest to prey on.]
afrozendance: (Ice Dragonstone)

[personal profile] afrozendance 2013-11-05 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes sense... People at the end of their lives, no matter what the circumstances? Very easy preys for anyone who would want to take what's left of them away. So she looks at Merlin and nods, writing her reply swiftly.]

It would be a good start.... Do any of you know the shortest way there?
cyan_maid: (Jumping headfirst into adventure!)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2013-11-05 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jane's gotten awfully quick with that pen. The less time they spend scribbling, the quicker things get done.]

I don't.

[And then an arrow. She points it in the direction Sandy's going, and underneath it says:] He might!

[After all, he certainly seems like he does.]
unnaturallygreen: (and soon i'll match them in renown)

[personal profile] unnaturallygreen 2013-11-06 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
Better question is: is there a part of this hospital that no one's visited in a while, located near the terminal ward? The Gentlemen are rather conspicous, and I'd imagine they want to attract as little attention as possible.

[Even without her voice, Elphaba still has a lot to say.]
morethanadream: (I think I can I think I can)

[personal profile] morethanadream 2013-11-10 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Yes, yes, that's nice, everyone. Why don't you walk a little faster while you're writing all your communication?

Sandy gestures for everyone to move faster. To him, doing a quick search of the entire hospital will be more effective than trying to target one part of it. After all, if the boxes are really so valuable, the Gentlemen will leave sentries by them. As he understands it, the monsters are difficult to miss.]
dragonspeak: (Okay--let's just think about this)

[personal profile] dragonspeak 2013-11-10 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Instead of stopping to write more, Merlin shakes his head and quickens his stride to catch up with Sandy.

The terminal ward is a good place to start, and it looks like Sandy has an idea of where to go anyway. Best to follow along for now. Besides, he can always head them off if they head toward a densely populated area. His knowledge of the building should come in handy for that.]
afrozendance: (Shining power)

[personal profile] afrozendance 2013-11-11 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[And she trails behind the two, going as fast as she can without running. It's best to go faster, yes, but rushing too much will either attract unwanted attention or make them miss vital details... ]
cyan_maid: (Jumping headfirst into adventure!)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2013-11-11 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jane doesn't mind hurrying at all, though she doesn't hurry ahead of Sandy or Merlin. She'd like to not get lost, thanks.]
unnaturallygreen: (is that all good deeds are)

[personal profile] unnaturallygreen 2013-11-12 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Elphaba hurries up as well, her pace becoming ever brisker. But she doesn't want to get lost either, and so she stays behind Sandy and Merlin, occasionally glancing around for anything out of the ordinary.]
