BOX BREAKING/EVENT MINGLE: THE GENTLEMEN

Who: EVERYONE still in the city on Days 346-348 (Oct 24-29)!
What: The Gentlemen event mingle/box breaking log.
When: Days 346-348 (Oct. 24-29)
Where: Throughout the city.
Rating: PG-13, for mentions of murder/death. Anything too explicit or graphic should be taken to a separate log, please!

Before dawn on Day 346 (Oct. 24), an odd red light will appear in the sky in the general direction of Muspellheim. It's not the sun rising early and it's not a glow cloud, just a single, large streak across the sky that might look like a crack. Seconds after it appears, a rumbling sound will accompany a small earthquake that might break a few dishes or rattle anything not secured off of its perch, nothing terribly destructive. The earthquake lasts about three minutes.

From this point onward, all living creatures in Asgard will be mute.

Beneath the cut is the brief TL;DR of the event, but the plot rundown HERE can provide you with all of the information you need about breaking the boxes, stopping the murders, and saving the day! Remember that your characters are voiceless, so feel free to get creative with how you're communicating across the city.

A brief rundown by day:

Day One ( Day 346 / Oct. 24/25 ): A small earthquake rattles the city for three minutes. Everyone loses their voices. Two people will die late at night with their hearts cut from their chests.

Day Two (Day 347 / Oct. 26/27): The bodies are found. Buffycast will do their best to explain the situation and people will start looking for the "box" only to realise there's more than one. Two more people will die.

Day Three (Day 348 / Oct. 28/29): Two more people will die. The last box will be destroyed right as they're cutting into the third and final victim. Screams of the victims will be heard across the city and the Gentlemen will die.

Everyone is voiceless for this event. No screaming or coughing or anything of the sort. This applies to animals and possibly even the gods; if you try to ring them up, they won't be answering. Voices will return by late evening of Day 348 (Oct. 29).

[ Please include the IC day (ex. Day 338 - that can be found in the info beneath the cut!) and OPEN/CLOSED in your top-level comment or your subject line when starting a thread. There WILL BE headers for the different districts, with a box-breaking thread beneath each header, but you ARE WELCOME to make your own threads beneath those headers for your characters OR to make new headers of your own. ]

[Hand signals, Jack resolved to himself. As soon as this thing was over, they would be discussing hand signals. Honestly, they should have been part of Torchwood training, but Jack hadn't been big on formalized training with his team, it wasn't the way he worked. Maybe in the future. For now, though, they'd just have to rely on their knowledge of each other, and each other's body language, and their field abilities.

Jack took the lead as they neared the end of the narrow street they were moving down, the building they were following coming to an end just before it. There were sounds around the corner, just loud enough for Jack to pick them up, but too quiet to tell what they were. He put one hand out, to motion at Ianto to stop and to press against the wall, even as he did so himself. There was a glance back next, to meet the younger man's eyes, and there was a clear 'stay here,' written in his gaze. He mouthed it as well, and motioned with his hand. Stay. Jack would check it out first. Then, with a confident wink, Jack edged towards the corner slowly, to peer around it.]

[Ianto resists the urge to roll his eyes at the other man, afraid to take his eyes off of Jack because he wouldn't be able to make any sound in case he got in trouble. He listens though, pressing against the wall and watching Jack edge forward to peer around the corner. How in the world is Jack so confident in the face of these things that are supposedly unbeatable? Ianto grumbles to himself, silently. How is he so infuriatingly charming, even now, when Ianto is still not happy with where they are and what they're doing?]

[Experience, Ianto. Experience.

As he came just to the corner, Jack paused long enough to try one thing; his ability, the one 'gifted' to him by the so called 'gods' of Asgard, allowed him to manipulate his shadow, make solid forms out of it, and he'd been practicing at it. So he paused to call on his shadow to form a short dagger. He had his Webley, of course, but against creatures that were supposedly invulnerable, he didn't see the need to waste bullets. Then, as he felt the still strange solid sensation of the shadow in his hand, forming the hilt that he gripped, he eased out- to find the noise he'd heard was nothing more than a couple of the Natives having some kind of silent disagreement. He released the tension he'd been holding and turned back to glance at Ianto, nodding. All clear, so far as least.]

[Ianto resists the urge to reach forward and grab the other man's hand, to keep him from darting off ahead of him. It wouldn't be entirely professional and he might need that hand to defend himself. He really doesn't like this whole not being able to communicate verbally business.

He eyes the shadow knife in Jack's hand. He's not sure that he'll ever be used to this whole 'abilities' business. Granted, he's used to Jack having abilities that he doesn't, but nothing like that. Not for the first time, he wonders what his own special power is and when it could manifest itself. It definitely isn't going to be anything nearly as spectacular as Jack's. He asked around, before he moved out of Heimdall, and he knows the two options that are presented to him. Neither are going to be very helpful as offense in a fight, if things come to that here, he silently laments to himself as he steps forward, drawing his gun.]

[Personally, Jack has no problems with Ianto not knowing his ability yet. While he and Ianto haven't exactly discussed it, Jack's done some research of his own, and he doesn't like either of the abilities for the younger man's house, doesn't like the thought of Ianto having those abilities. For now, though, that's neither here nor there. Instead of dwelling on abilities, his or Ianto's unknown one, Jack simply lets the shadow dissipate, so as not to startle the Natives. He strides out casually this time, keeping pace with the younger man as they move past the bickering beings, and out of sight. Only then does he capture Ianto's gaze again, as they near another corner.

'Stay here,' he tries to push through his eyes. Watch his back while he takes the next corner. They will definitely be reviewing standard hand signals after this.]

[Ianto keeps his gun hidden as they sneak past the natives. When they settle back against the wall for a second time, resuming the positions they did before, Jack giving the same nonverbal orders he did before, Ianto resists the urge to roll his eyes. True, Jack is the leader. But this no talking and making Ianto hang back all the time thing is really getting to him. He's a good shot, and he was in the field the same as all the others towards the end, damn it. He knows Jack's protective of him but does it really warrant this level of it all, he wonders, as he presses himself back against the wall and lets Jack do the scouting or whatever it is he wants to be doing, his gun ready just in case.]

[Excuse you, watching their back side is important; from what they've been told, these creatures are dangerous, and it's not impossible that they might sneak behind them. For that reason, Jack shoots Ianto one last look before he rounds the corner to find- there's nothing immediately before him, but as he squints, he catches movement, far down the street, almost too far too be seen. Well, they might have just found their target... Jack presses himself back around the corner and, meeting Ianto's eyes, jerks his head. Since they've got a moment, as far as the movement was, he grabs his pen and paper quickly, scribbling down,]

Far down the street, possible target sighted.

[Ianto's eyes flick down to the paper, taking in Jack's scribbling there, before he looks up at Jack, nodding. He adjusts his grip on his gun, trying to get a sense of whether he'll actually need it or not. Of whether it will actually help or not. He glances back at Jack, raising his gun. 'I'm ready' the action says, without being able to voice as much. He'd wait for Jack's cue and then be his cover, as best he could, given the fact that they can't communicate verbally as they do this.]

[Good. Jack nods once, firmly, then summons a shadow knife and moves stealthily around the corner, trusting Ianto to cover his back as he creeps down the street toward the movement. And the closer they get, the clearer it becomes that they've located their target; there's a clanking sound of chains, distant but undeniable, and at least one of the figures seems to be floating. Well, here goes nothing. He stops momentarily, to glance quickly back at Ianto and nod once more, then he's off, sneaking towards one of the straight jacketed figures on the outer edge of the grouping, one among many. He gets close enough to silently grab at the thing, shadow knife brought to its neck, before it begins to fight back with a loud rattling of chains that alerts the rest of the creatures.]
