[ It had worked once before, back in the heat of late summer in Asgard, so Jade was trying it again. She had dragged the sign out to the front of the store, right in the middle of the sidewalk, and written in huge letters:

free hot chocolate! :D
just come inside ♥

The temperature hadn't broken the sixty degree mark today - it was getting chilly fast. Both Orihime and Annabeth were gone, and the store was oddly quiet. Jade will be found keeping herself busy throughout the day with odd little chores when it's completely empty of customers - sweeping, dusting, and occasionally dozing in a booth near the door when the boredom becomes too much to bear. ]

Or both, yes! I suppose both does make more sense. Maybe that's even what the pans would be for - the crossed fingers specifically.

Very clever. I imagine they'd have to be, if that's their situation. A lot of the time there really isn't any choice; whatever your situation is, you have to find your own way to live with it.

Exactly! Because there are a few things that cannot be solved, whether with careful planning or by barging through.

Right. [It's a subtly weaker smile, but it's there.] Sometimes the facts of the matter aren't what you wish they were, but that's no reason to give up. I'm... glad I learned that. [Even if how she learned it wasn't the most comfortable.]

Mm. It's an important lesson for sure.

[She...wants to ask how Namine learned it - again, this girl is just so sweet and nice, it doesn't seem like she's got lessons to learn. But perhaps that could wait for another day.

[There's a pause, and maybe that's Jane's opportunity, but there's no indication that it is and Naminé moves on quickly enough.]

I'm glad that you learned it, too - but I hope it wasn't a hard lesson for you.

Um - well, maybe I haven't learned it all the way through. Or I know of it, but I don't really know it, you know?

Yes, I understand. Well, it's good that you've heard of it, at least. Other people's experience can be yours, too, if you know how to listen. I... hope you never have to learn it all the way through the hard way, anyway.

But what if it's something that needs to be learned the hard way?

I don't know. Maybe it is. I can't say you wouldn't learn it better that way, but... things like that - they can break you instead, if you're not careful or if it turns out too badly. It's... not something I'd wish on anyone. At least - not the really hard way.

[It can't be worse than how things are going at home, she thinks.]

[Naminé's smile lingers even when she takes another sip to find that there's only one or two more left in her cup. Blinking, she peers down at it.]

[She looks into her own cup-] Oh! Down to the dregs already.

Mm. I see you've discovered our predicament, too.

[Hm. She contemplates the shallow puddle of chocolate in the bottom of her cup just a moment, then,]

Hmmm...make some more, perhaps?

Hee...! I think I like that proposal. Shall we vote, or should we just call it a plan?

Hmmmm! Perhaps we should vote. Make it democratic.

I second that vote! And I don't think there's anyone else here who has to vote, either, so we seem to be in agreement!

[She takes the brief time for an exaggerated glance around just to be sure, then nods.]

I guess that mean it passed, then. The vote? Or the motion? I'm not sure exactly how it works, but-- more hot chocolate it is.
