Wha- [Yosuke is unfortunately a bit too self-aware to protest the description, but he flushes distinctly pink all the same. Who'd want to hear something like that from a girl they just met?] Where'd that come from all of a sudden? It's not like I fell on it...

So how did you break it?

That's... [His eyes dart from side to side. There's a reason he's out in this part of town, after all, and he wouldn't want certain people to overhear the wrong thing. He already knows he'll probably end up saying the wrong thing.] Well, it's not broken! I landed on it the wrong way, but it's supposed to heal up by itself pretty soon. They just said I better keep this thing on for the time being... You know, to be on the safe side. [He raises his left hand to give her a little wave, and immediately flinches again.] Ow.

( She observes that this boy is very agitated for some reason, which only makes her curious. But she probably can't ask him outright, he seems too suspicious for that. )

Well, you better not go about waving it around like that, if you want it to heal quickly.

[windbreak]

[Self-consciously, though at least sparing his injured arm this time, Yosuke rubs the side of his neck.] Dude, I know that...

[Argh, and that's enough about how he convinced Kanji to pile-drive him into the floor! Topic change, stat!]

Anyways. [He looks her over.] Hey, are you out here on your own?

[beyondmeasure]

( She likewise looks him over, before answering vaguely: )

I was.

[windbreak]

[Yosuke waits expectantly for a few seconds before his face falls a little. Yeah, "but now we're together" would've been a stretch, huh?]

Ah, I see. You just looked - kind of like you were lost, that's all. [And he'd been about to jump on that since he knows exactly what that's like, but for some reason he's getting the feeling that physically lost isn't this girl's problem...]

( Her expression turns a bit quizzical. )

The maid gave me a map.

Well, I'm just sayi- [He hesitates.] Ohh, wait, so does that make you a newbie? I thought I'd remember your face if I saw it before...

Yes, I've just arrived. ( Hopefully that clarification will ease some of the boy's confusion. )

[windbreak]

I see! In that case, nice to meet ya! I'm Yosuke Hanamura. I've been in the same boat as you for, uhhh, a few months now. [He beams, as if that's going to put his making a fool of himself out of her memory. She doesn't seem to talk much, but heck, he can make up for that!] If by "just" you mean "just today", that's some pretty convenient timing you got there... This week's been crazy even by this place's regularly-scheduled apocalypse standards. Glad it calmed down eventually, though.

( She appears to vague out a little halfway through Yosuke's introduction. Once he finishes, she tilts her head and asks: )

Are you also on the welcoming committee?

[windbreak]

Huh? Yeah, but that's not why I -

[He promptly does an impressive double take, just shy of knocking his injured elbow out of its sling again.] I mean, I'm not slacking! I was just wondering if you needed anything...

[beyondmeasure]

I feel very welcomed, thank you. ( That's actually what she wanted to say. )

[windbreak]

...You do? [That's not what he was expecting her to build up to. It reminds him of one or two other girls he's met...] I mean, did you need anything, or do you just always look like that?

[- wait, crap, that last part wasn't supposed to be out loud!]

( Cue confusion! )

Look like what?

[windbreak]

Y'know, like a space cadet, but more kind of... [He waves his good hand in a wide gesture that completely fails to clarify what he's talking about, and then shoots an uncertain look back towards her.]

( She looks just as uncertain as he does. )

... What's a space cadet?

[windbreak]

[...Yeah, he really shouldn't have said that part out loud. Now he feels a little bad.

He sighs.] It doesn't matter. So... What's your name? What kind of place are you from?

[beyondmeasure]

( It's okay, she'll come up with a whole new definition for 'space cadet' given a little bit of time and imagination. )

It's 'Luna'. I'm British.

[windbreak]

[He tilts his head very slightly.] Huh... Are all the girls in England like this?

[beyondmeasure]

Like what?

[windbreak]

[He hastens to wave his non-bandaged hand.] I'm not saying that like it's a bad thing! I guess it's kind of cute... in a way. [Or he just can't think of anything more complimentary to say while he's backpedalling.]

You know, I've never been called 'cute' before.

Huh? Never? That's a surprise. [Not even a sarcastic one! Although a little quirk of his eyebrow belies his suspicion that if any guy did say it to her in the past, there's a decent chance she wasn't listening...]
