Small councils are formed with Travellers at the head of them to begin rebuilding the new kingdoms around the world.

DAY 590 ( MAR. 25/26 )

DAY 600 AND ONWARD
Everything is awesome.

"So you're gonna head back and make sure, then come back when you can, huh?"

Ellie kept her arm around the younger girl for a while longer, until the trembling went away.

She wasn't going to have to lose her, too. With the war over, they could live a normal life. Go to school. Grow up.

"Yeah. I guess that's the plan. Now we know we can come and go. As much as I want to stay, there's still people back home. I can at least check on things there, make sure AJ and Kenny are okay."

It's a relief, as bittersweet as all of this has been in Asgard thus far. But she holds to Ellie as long as she needs to, until they both calm down at least a little in the midst of such revelation. But after everything, they deserve this. They need it, after this war, after worrying about home for so long and whether they would go back or what the story might be after the fighting.

Clementine hasn't really had a 'normal' life in years by now. Even in Asgard with the fighting. But here, now, she has something of a proper chance again, during peace.

"And you get to figure the cure, and still see Riley."

"Exactly."

Settling a hand over the back of Clem's shoulders, Ellie held on, finally letting go of all the lingering hurt and worry.

"... shit. We're actually both gonna be fine, huh?" Her voice gentled. "That's the first time I've said that in a long time and actually... felt like it might turn out that way."

"Yup. I know what you mean. It's...crazy, but a good crazy. I mean, considering things back home otherwise. I mean, I doubt the Doctor or any will be too thrilled when I go home with the walkers and all, but...at least now we know there's the option to come back here."

That much is a relief. Clementine holds to Ellie too as the other pulls back, a lopsided smile at her lips as she nods. There's hope. More than she's had and been able to strive for in years now, really. The reassurance that she could always come back here for a break from things. That Ellie could too. That her friend could fix things back home and still be there for Riley. That those like Riley who had died back home could still stay.

"We're good."

"Yeah. We're good."

It breaks out of her almost physically, crawling away from her skin and leaving her empty, open, calm.

She needed this. She'd never known how much it hurt, how much it weighed, until it no longer existed.

She reaches out and taps the brim of Clem's hat affectionately.

"Riley's not the only one I didn't want to leave behind."

Clementine's used to that by now, but at least the cap isn't too awkward from it with Ellie's usual playfulness with it. It might seem silly, given most probably don't understand its significance as the last thing she has from her parents, but she is rather attached to it.

"No. There are lots of others here I don't want to leave. For me too."

Like Ellie. But at least they know this isn't and won't really be goodbye forever, if they can come back here.
