The Grey Sickness is officially declared gone and Asgard begins tearing down its walls.

DAY 580 ( MAR. 5/6 )

Honir permanently opens the portal for travel between canon worlds and Yggdrasil. Henceforth, any character can come and go as they please.

DAY 583 ( MAR. 11/12 )

Frigg gives any willing Travellers the ability to redesign the earth through expressions of emotion or art. Asgard has a huge tree-planting party with blessed water to encourage faster growth.

DAY 585 ( MAR. 15/16 )

Small councils are formed with Travellers at the head of them to begin rebuilding the new kingdoms around the world.

DAY 590 ( MAR. 25/26 )

New Giants are born neutral of any bias for people to bring into the world with the Lokis as their Kings.

DAY 600 AND ONWARD

"Ow! Whoa there -" Caught by surprise, Yosuke found his arm pinned before he had time to panic. Look, something else that obviously wouldn't have happened before the end of the world! Not that he was going to complain. He grinned back, a little weakly. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure everyone with ears heard. Kind of surreal, huh?"

After a second Ellie stepped back, straightening her backpack and spine, clearing her throat.

"Really fucking surreal. What are you gonna do? Decided yet?"

Aha... deciding. As soon as he could be confident that it wasn't going to hit her on the head (it was nice while it lasted), Yosuke quickly waved his hand. "Hey, I can't make important life choices in literally five seconds..." he said, with an even weaker laugh - and added, "What about you? Hanging around, right?"

If he polled enough people about this, maybe he'd even be able to convince himself. Stranger things have happened.

"What are you talking about? That's how we should make all decisions."

She wasn't entirely serious, but she liked to seem that way, sometimes. Her smile gentled a bit, eyes softening.

"Yeah, I'm gonna stay. I've got a couple things to sort out back home, but after that, you bet I'm staying here."

[windbreak]

"Ha, I figured. Like you'd ever be a stay-at-home type." He mustered a slight smirk, still not unkindly. "Unless that's what you're gonna do? Marry yourself off and camp out in an arcade together for the rest of time?"

"Psh, as if. If we ever-"

Ellie has to cut off, has to catch her breath, her eyes suddenly filling with tears. It hits her again. Riley is going to grow up. They're going to have a future. They can decide what they want to be.

They can live.

"Oh, shit. I don't know. I've never thought we would... get to."

Yosuke breathes in sharply when she falters, ready to jump in with an apology - what nerve did he accidentally hit this time? - but instead, gently lets it go. It's that kind of day, it seems. ...Jeez, she might get him doing it if he looks at her for too long.

"Well... I don't think you have to decide that one in five seconds," he says, trying not to start. "I've never thought that far ahead either. Y'know, that's what the days of our youth are for, and all." He winks.

Ellie looks up quickly, sucking it back, suddenly absurdly grateful that Yosuke actually isn't drawing attention to it. With a little bit of quick blinking and a smile to cover it, it's like they were never there.

It's the emotion overload. It's gotta be. She's the opposite of weepy, she's just so damn happy and relieved.

"Guess you're right. But when you spend your whole life thinking you might die any day, you just don't think about stuff like that."

... that's heavy. That's heavier than she's ever been, but maybe now she can afford to be honest.

"So this is- this is really awesome. Really, so awesome."

"Heh." Yosuke crosses his arms. It's not like he ever thought she was lacking in earnestness on a normal day, so he can't put a finger on why it's so cute for her to come out with a line like that, but it kind of is. "You earned it, man. Just for today, I won't even tell anyone I saw you crying."

Hey, he doesn't mind drawing attention to it once the immediate danger of her dissolving into a puddle or something seems to have passed.

"If you tell anyone, I'll give you something to cry about."

She tries to make it sound threatening, jostling his arm, but despite the fierceness of her smile, she really can't sound TOO serious.

Yosuke, in turn, stumbles back from her a touch more melodramatically than he needs to. "H-Hey now, do you call that responsible married behaviour?" he says. "I don't."

Seeing how happy the news made her, he thinks maybe his gut misgiving was wrong. It sure as hell wouldn't be the first time.

"I'm not married yet, you dork."

Lightly, she punched him a few times in the arm, laughing under her breath.

"Hey, Yosuke? I hope you stay. Or come back and visit sometimes."

Yosuke hesitated. That casual little suggestion hadn't thrown him far, but still further off balance than the punching. Back off balance, honestly. Ellie's one of a bunch of great people he met this year - who could happily throw all of that away, even for a little while? But if he didn't, and the fog never lifted...

"Dude, that's like you're already saying goodbye," he countered, skipping only the couple of beats it took him to shake the image out of his head. Then, since if any day was a good day for candour this one had to be, he added, "Friends are hard to totally get rid of, you know? That's... kind of why I can't just stay, either. But I dunno when yet."
