EVENT: HOSPITAL EXPEDITION

Who: Anyone!
What: Hospital Expedition Time!
When: Day 70
Where: The hospital and surrounding grounds.
Rating: PG-13 for potential scariness

Warning: This log includes reference to and optional effects of psychotropic medication. Those intensely bothered by such things should be cautious or steer clear.

After The Doctors found the hospital, an expedition was organized. Those who signed up in that post or who just want to tag along will be heading out on the morning of Day 70 (April 20, ICly). After a 3mi/5km or so walk, they'll find themselves at what looks like a mostly modern hospital and outbuildings, surrounded as a compound by a tall wire fence. The fence is now full of holes, and it's obvious that the buildings haven't been used in decades. There is very little graffiti or other human-caused damage to the place, but weather, animals, and neglect leave it pretty worn down anyway.

Inside, the buildings are mostly empty of medicines and things. There's some broken-down equipment and a few bits of both modern and herbalist medication here and there but not much. The records room however is pretty much intact, besides the wear on paper from sitting in a non-climate-controlled room for 30 years. The records date from the native's reckoning time of 376-385, and are mostly not very informative, but reading through a bunch will reveal how the greyness progressed as a "disease".

Emotion left first, so through 376 and 377 the records state that people just seem to be mysteriously losing all personality and are somewhat lethargic, just going through the motions for no apparent reason. By 378 people are losing colour, and the hospital turns from a specialty hospital to a quarantine zone. People are brought there the moment they're diagnosed, and while it seems the conditions at the hospital were humane, it was crowded and generally not a happy place.

By 383 the staff have been replaced multiple times as they too get sick, and the conditions at the compound were degenerating by sheer number of patients vs number of healthy staff. It got dirty and the food rations were a bit tight, but it wasn't any sort of horrible place where people died. It was just overcrowded and understaffed, for the most part. There's notes about how any animals or even inanimate objects that come into contact with the sick also lose expression and colour.

The last of the records will be notice that there's no more room in the hospital and no successful treatment or cure, so everyone is going back to the city and shutting it down, by order of the gods. Essentially, the entire city is doomed to go grey, so they'll turn the city walls into the quarantine zone to try to protect the rest of the world.

The one other interesting thing in the records might be that in all of the individual patient records, one file (that seems like it was very thick) is missing. There's also mention in the general notes of "the Queen" being sick -- one of the earlier patients, even. Most record of her has been blacked out, however.

Aside from records, there's only one other interesting to be found during the day. A large room in the old laboratory building seems strangely personal inside, having couches, tables, and stacks of basic board games lying around. If the door to this room is closed, it will automatically lock, and within a few minutes anyone inside will start feeling... funny. Perhaps as an attempted treatment for the emotionless lethargy of the disease, the room is equipped to be air tight, and a dosage of an odourless, colourless, mood-improving gas released. The effect should be no more than a case of the giggles and a sharpening of the characters' sense of colour. The room will unlock after ten minutes or so of the gas being in effect, and the symptoms should wear off in an hour or two.

Beyond that, there isn't much to find besides a general spooky feeling. The attic storage floor of the hospital may contain bats, and there's signs of other animals nesting (rabbits, etc). The creepy atmosphere should make for interesting exploration though -- especially at night. Anyone inside after darkness falls should stay there. There my be the sounds of nearby wolves outside, but running into any is entirely optional and won't happen inside the buildings.

Each Doctor will be leading his own team, so if your characters will strictly be sticking to their team, make sure you note that in your starter or wait for your chosen Doctor to set things up for his team. You're also welcome to have your characters explore free-form with their friends or with strangers, so don't worry too much about structure! Have fun and go wild!

Yes. The others did, too. I'm just glad nothing dangerous was going on. I don't know if those of us who were left could have handled anything like that.

[She takes it as such.] A little while after that, they said that we could leave, but... I didn't hear about anyone actually finding a way to get home, and even though they said the city was cured, it went back to being grey. The gods... said that it was all a trick, and that the person who was telling everyone those things was really Loki's twin, who-- is also called Loki. [... That's got to be confusing.] Apparently, there's going to be a party to make it up to us.

Ah -- we're pretty lucky that the fog wasn't another weather change before an attack! That -- could have been disastrous.

Loki's twin, Loki. [Yeah, that's logical. Thanks gods.]

I heard about the party -- apparently people were pretty upset about that?
lethechained: (oh. that's. okay....)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-04-22 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Nod...!] Exactly.

... It doesn't seem very practical.

Some of them were, yes. From what I heard, they didn't think it was-- appropriate for the gods to try to 'sweep things under the rug' like that.

Mm ... though where I'm from, people double up on names quite a lot! I even once met another Kudo Shinichi ...

I have to agree ... After people got hurt so bad, celebrating feels ... wrong somehow. What do you think?
lethechained: (...!!)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-04-22 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That must have been strange...! I know there are people who share names where I come from, but... I've never heard of them being in the same family.

... I have to agree, too. But--... I'm... not really surprised that the gods would do that. And I guess... it might help everyone get their minds off of what happened. [She looks kind of skeptical, though. Is it really even a good idea to not think of that?]

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-04-23 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Mm ... I don't think the gods really ... understand people very well. I guess they might not have needed to before now!
lethechained: (unfortunate decision)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-04-23 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm. Maybe. ... Sometimes I wonder if they just don't care. Or-- if maybe they really do things like that on purpose. [Not that she isn't willing to consider the other option; she's only putting that out there.]
holmes_fanatic: (Swing Brother Swing.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-04-23 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ... I guess the only way to know for sure is to talk to them ... and I'm not exactly looking forward to that!
lethechained: (er....)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-04-23 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[She smiles slightly, sympathetic.] I don't blame you. They sound like they can be... difficult.
holmes_fanatic: (Endless Night.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-04-23 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm ... ah, that's right! I was asking about Namine-neechan's news!
lethechained: (Flatline)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-04-23 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
-- Oh! Right...! Well--....

... Things have been... busy. [Which is about the least unpleasant word she can find for it.]
holmes_fanatic: (Overture to Death.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-04-24 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
I heard a little from Kaz-san. Namine-neechan's all right, right?
lethechained: (That's the best smile you've got Namine?)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-04-24 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
[--....]

[She smiles, just a little.]

Yes. I'm alright. It's-- very kind of you to ask.
holmes_fanatic: (Endless Night.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-04-24 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
It's not being kind. If Namine-neechan wasn't okay, I'd want to help -- okay?
lethechained: (Worth drawing)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-04-24 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
[-- Oh. She blinks at him, looking startled. But she can't let that go without a response, can she?]

O--... okay, Conan. [That smile comes back, stronger than before.] ... Thank you.
holmes_fanatic: (Death and the Dancing Footman.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-04-24 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Conan smiles back, happy that Namine's not dismissing his concern as childish.]

I see my team -- guess I'd better go and join them!
lethechained: (D:)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-04-24 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
[She's a funny one, when it comes to things like that; she doesn't even think about the fact(?) that he's a child. He's just Conan, regardless of apparent age and any of the connotations that might bring with it for a lot of people. (Who would she be to talk, anyway, when she's really only a year old, herself?)]

-- Right, of course. It was nice seeing you again...! ... Be careful.
holmes_fanatic: all smiles! (A Murder is Announced.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-04-24 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
You too!

[Conan waves cheerfully before dashing off to chase after Doctor 11.]
lethechained: (A bit of a smile)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-04-24 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[She watches him go with a wave of her own.]
