EVENT LOG: FRIENDS INDEED

DAY 546 (Nov 26-27)

A message will arrive at the gates that more reinforcements from other cities are on the way. The death of the Frost Giants' queen has not gone unnoticed by the rest of the world -- not in small because it also means that the prophecy following Ragnarok can no longer happen as foretold. Unable to sit back and rely on fate now, groups of varying sizes from all over begin to arrive. First come scholars and medics from Vanaheim, followed by a ragtag but enthusiastic militia from Salt Side and other nearby villages, followed still by a military force of gruff and grumpy dwarves from Svartalfheim bringing with them a vast and diverse array of weapons to share.

They set up their semi-permanent camps outside the gates of the city - though many of them can be frequently found inside of the city too, and for the most part these new allies seem ready to learn about and contribute to whatever resources Asgard and its Travelers have already. Everyone in the camp seems to be prepared to stay there until the war for Yggdrasil is over, and especially so now: it's anyone's guess how Surt will react with Thiazi now permanently out of play.

DAY 547 (Nov 28-29)

On the morning of Day 547, every character with a bracelet will receive an invite from Freyr to come the courtyard of the castle at nightfall. The ice will be completely cleared from it, and a few magically tended bonfires will provide a gentle, radiating heat that keeps most of the area comfortably warm. As some of the castle's maids pass out snacks and hot cocoa in warm mugs, he will give a short speech to and then makes a small request of those who arrive.

[ Felix is grinning at little after Freyr's speech - really looks like his god is a giant dork, but it's better than the alternative, he figures - and he taps the side of his mug as he assumes a random seat at one of the fires, not really paying much attention to whoever it is he's seating himself next to. ]

Giant canvases. Enormous ones. Those matter. Your turn: go.

[ But it's said in good humor. ]

Giant canvases? You mean like for painting? [She asked, more confused by his answer than anything else.]

[ Oh! Little girl. He'd sat next to a little girl - whoops. He makes a note to watch his language. ]

What? Uh - yeah. It's a lot more fun with so much space to work with, I think. You ever paint?

Every day! I'm in Freyr's house with the drawing to life power, in fact. I love to draw and paint. Ah, I like to make all kinds of things. What do you like to make? [Alice is very much used to adults, seeing as they outnumber the amount of traveler children.]

[ Felix's shoulders jump a little in surprise. More talkative than Kira, definitely, and he grins slightly as he takes a pull from his drink. ]

As a matter of fact, I'm also in Freyr's house, with that very same power. And - people, I think. Like to draw people the most. Not to life, of course, but on a normal day. What about you, little lady?

[madcuriosity]

I'm not entirely sure we can bring people to life. At least, I don't think we can. I've never seen someone bring them to life. [She puts a finger to her lip in thought. Had someone brought another person to life? She would like to try it now.]

Ah, but I like to draw mythical creatures... or flowers. I suppose... well... actually I like to draw all sorts of things. Teacups being one of them.

You drink tea?

[ Felix leans back, considers her, and then flashes his eyebrows up. ]

What am I saying? Of course you do - you're too posh not to. [ In good humor, just as before, and he twists so he can offer her his hand. ] It's Felix, by the way. Can't say I've drawn too many flowers, but maybe I'll take it up.

Of course, I don't really know anyone in England who doesn't... though I admit, I don't know many people... still... Ah! Yes, I'm Alice Liddell. [She offered a curtsy from her seat.] How do you do, Mr. Felix?

Well, have you spoken with them? They're very fond of being painted.

[felixtheprat]

I'm doing pretty well myself, actually. And - oh! [ And then he's cracking up before he can help himself. ] You don't paint the talky ones, do you?

[madcuriosity]

Of course I do. I talk to them for hours while painting them. Why shouldn't I?

[felixtheprat]

Well, I don't know. They're funny little things, aren't they? [ Said with a scrunched nose. ]

[madcuriosity]

Well... they come from the Looking Glass. They're the least funny in that place.

[felixtheprat]

[ He takes a breath, tilting his head at her curiously. ]

Is that - that's a town around here?

[ He'll just hazard a guess - this whole place is crazy. ]

[madcuriosity]

Oh no! That's the kingdom in the mirror above my mantle back home. [She offers the answer happily.]

[felixtheprat]

And that's where the talking flowers live, is it?

[ He's eyeing his drink a little dubiously now. ]

[madcuriosity]

Yes that's right. In the beautiful garden. The land is ruled by the Red King and Queen and the White King and Queen. The Red King is always asleep and the White Queen is able to turn into a sheep.

[felixtheprat]

And you don't travel around in time in a blue box fighting evil, too, do you?

[ Faintly. Why is everyone else's life so - interesting compared to his? ]

[madcuriosity]

With daddy? No, although daddy and mother don't just fight evil, you know. They're really just explorers at heart! Daddy loves showing the universe to his companions. He's a lonely mad man with a very pretty blue box that isn't a box that's actually a ship that's bigger on the inside.

[felixtheprat]

This hot chocolate isn't spiked with anything, is it?

[ Because he needs some more, clearly, if that's the case. ]

[madcuriosity]

Spiked? I don't think so. It looks perfectly smooth!

If it's spiky, perhaps we should get you a different one. Mine hasn't any spikes in it.

[felixtheprat]

[ Right. Little girl. He needed to be more careful to watch himself. ]

How old did you say you were again, Alice?

[madcuriosity]

Well, I think I'm eight. You see, I was seven and a half when I came, but time is so different here. I figured since I've been through at least two winters at least one year must have passed. So I'm eight... or eight and a half.

[felixtheprat]

Got a niece about your age, you know. Smart as a whip, just like you.

[ It's not meant to be condescending. Really, he sounds almost wistful. He misses Kira a lot. ]

So... other than flowers from your weird mirror-world, what's your favorite thing to draw? You should show me.

[snowstormed]

[Give him a moment, he's just thinking that over for a moment.]

Hot chocolate. [It's the first thing, really, that comes to mind as something that matters--not a huge deal, certainly, but after the life he's had, something so small as being able to have hot chocolate is big.]

[felixtheprat]

[ That catches Felix by surprise: it seems even more banal than his own semi-flippant answer, and he bursts into laughter that he himself wasn't quite expecting. ]

This hot chocolate in particular, or just the drink in general?
