[Closed] Let it all out

Who: Peeta Mellark and Finnick Odair
What: Having a private talk man to man
When: Afternoon
Where: Near the Park
Rating: PG-13 tops!

It was just like Finnick to let people know what they needed to and nothing more. But, honestly there were things that needed to be said. Finnick wasn't sure what he was doing was right, or even a good idea but if something happened he would have felt worse. Katniss needed to be protected, and Peeta had always been up to the task of doing that. However, could he protect her if he wasn't fully prepared?

The request to talk had been his alone. It hadn't been something he had sent out with too much of an explanation, hopefully Peeta would show up. Finnick had stopped and grabbed a drink before he had made it to the park at the allotted time. Taking a deep breath he sat on a bench and just enjoyed the quiet, making sure to put his thoughts in order.

This may have the opposite effect. It really might.

However, Finnick had to try. It would be out of his hands if Peeta failed to listen, and then they would definitely have problems.

"Ahhh." He slumped back against the seat as he let his head rest on the top of the bench back.

Peeta had thought long and hard about whether or not he would honor Finnick's request for them to meet. He still didn't entirely trust the other Tribute, not after what happened in the arena. It didn't matter much what Finnick said. While Peeta would keep it in mind, Peeta would like to come to his own conclusions about the older Victor.

Regardless, Peeta was walking toward a figure lounging on a bench, no later than he was told. There was a long while when Peeta simply stood behind him, even considered just walking away a few times, though he was sure that Finnick knew he was there. He never was any good at sneaking around, even less so since his first time in the Games. With a heavy sigh, Peeta circled the bench and took a seat next to Finnick.

Different place and different circumstances, so that meant that Finnick deserved a fair chance, right?

Feeling the infection course through his leg was something Peeta would never forget and waking up one day in the Capitol without it was something else he would just never forget. Not that it mattered though. None of that mattered anymore. He was no better one way or the other.

"I keep getting asked what it's like in Panem and about the Games." Basically, he hadn't really had the chance to forget. Not that he really minded answering the questions (he wouldn't even bother doing it if he did), it just made home a difficult place to let go of.

A light laugh escaped Peeta as he shook his head. He could be iffy about trust and still amicable. "You asked me to come so of course I came."

"If we were back home, we wouldn't be having this conversation." In the Capitol, Peeta was cut off from everyone else. Sometimes, he was able to speak with Johanna but even then, the conversations were short lived, never lasting beyond a few meager pleasantries, if they could even be called that. Finnick, though, was someone he wouldn't speak to at home, mostly because of where he was. He wasn't sure he'd ever speak to Finnick again back there, or even Katniss. Despite what was said about his eventual rescue, Peeta wasn't sure it would happen. And maybe that would be for the best anyway. Maybe he could better protect her from there, if he had any chance at all.

"We're here so you can offer me advice? What kind of advice?" Finnick and Peeta were two very different people. Peeta had to wonder what advice Finnick could possibly offer that would be useful to him. Skeptical as he was as to just how good the advice might be, Peeta was eager to hear it.

"It's still not an easy idea to get behind, but I guess not." Except for Rue. If he truly wanted to believe that there was no way they could be from different times, he'd have to believe that her being in Asgard at all was impossible. Which he didn't believe, of course. Hell, he probably spent more time with Rue than anyone else since getting there and how could he not believe that he's from no less than a year after her? He just shook his head. He'd figure it all out eventually. Probably.

"You mentioned handcuffs when you first got here too. Why? Why should I get handcuffs? You're supposed to know more about what happens than the rest of us so tell me, what happens? What happens that would make me need handcuffs?"

"I want to know everything, Finnick." The problem was that he couldn't possibly know how much he wanted to know, without knowing everything first. Things were awful like that. How could he possibly know that, in reality, he didn't actually want to know anything. How was he supposed to know that he was better off not knowing? He could save himself some of the grief, guilt, denial.

"I want to know everything you can tell me about what happens at home." It was something that would happen at home, that hadn't happened to Peeta yet, sure, but what if things took the same kind of turn in Asgard? Wasn't it better to be prepared?

Despite the fact that Peeta wanted to cut in whole Finnick spoke, tell him he was wrong and that none of that could happen ( or that now that he knew, he could probably prevent it, right? ), Peeta stayed quiet, simply looking down at his hands instead. He looked over them, trying to imagine them around Katniss' neck, but he couldn't. It just wasn't something he could picture himself doing. He'd been willing to let her kill him when they renounced their rule amendment in the 74th Games, and he was going to die for her in the Quell.

Eyes never leaving his hands, Peeta started to shake his head. "That has to be wrong. I would never do that to her."
