What: Someone thought it'd be nice to add some instant color to the drab walls of the city.
When: Day 123
Where: somewhere in Freya, not too far from the welcome hall
Rating: G, but may go higher depending on the threads.

[ When one finds his or herself wandering around the Freya district, he'll see that half of this one street has been covered in color. More specifically, paint. Bright hues of red, yellow, blue and green greet each and every passerby with the intricate yet pleasing shapes and patterns they form. Some are characters from cartoons from Japan. Others are inspiring quotes and proverbs written in Chinese and Korean. Many windows and doors have stuffed toys of the cute characters themselves to give the area a more welcoming feel. Why don't we just show you some pictures? ]

[ You'll find three individuals painting this work in progress. They look busy! But what's there to do in this corner of Asgard? You can comment on the little details of the paintings, or praise them for their work, even! Maybe you have a request for them to paint on the city buildings. Maybe you scold them because you think that - gasp - this is vandalism! Or maybe you can decide to be just as much of a vandal and ruin their masterpiece. ]

Kawaii means cute! [ This is the problem, right? ] Do you think it's cute?

I... guess so? [he's still kind of trying to take it all in...!] Did you paint all of this?

Yes! But Korea painted that side, [ she points at his area ] and Hong Kong painted that side. [ points at the Bruce Lee paintings. Not that Hope knows who Bruce Lee is... ]

Wow... you guys really took giving the city color pretty literally.

[he may look a little (unsure) but he's actually pretty impressed!]

I believe we all have to start somewhere. Is that bad? [ Come on, don't tell her that. ] Do you like it?

No, it's not bad at all... I think it's actually pretty cool.

[ A sigh of relief and a smile. ] I'm glad! A lot of people seem to think so, too. But do you think the gods will punish us if we paint the city like this?

I don't think so. I mean, you're doing what they wanted—making the city more colorful and everything.

Yeah... I hope it makes lots and lots of people happy. If emotions are what give the city color, we just have to make more of it!

[ She offers her clean hand. ] I'm Taiwan, by the way.

[he blinks for a while, then meets his hand with hers. gosh Asgard is full of nice people.]

I'm Hope. Hope Estheim. Nice to meet you, Taiwan. [he then draws his hand back, raises his head to look back at the paintings.] ... Why did you decide to do all this?

Because it'll help bring the city color!

Oh, but not in that sense. Everything's got to start somewhere, you know? There was an old man back home who did the same to his village... After he painted every wall and every street, a lot of people started coming in with smiles on their faces! To bring the citizens of Asgard joy - that's the purpose of this.

[it's times like this that Hope is able to forget about the war part of this whole thing and remember that people are here to make friends and form connections.

... it's probably not very wise of him to think that way (is what some of his friends from home would say), but hey, he's a kid. he could get some leeway, right?]

I think I get it. I'm sure people feel the same way about what you guys are doing here.

You think so? [ She chuckles to herself. ] I hope so. [ And she laughs again, for different reasons. ]

Does it bother you when people say your name so often? Hope.

[he blinks at her before chuckling a little himself.]

It used to. But... not really. You get used to it after a while.

It's a really nice name! It's very, hm, positive! [ A few brush strokes on the wall here and there. ] I think names are important. It's like, they define us, you know?

"Taiwan" doesn't really mean anything beautiful or special... but I like it.

And yeah, I know what you mean. But I think it works the other way around, too... whether it already has a meaning or not, it's your name, right? It belongs to you, and it's up to you to make it mean something.
