[Eyes won't admit it out loud – or at least now – that he had missed him being there in the audience whenever he had performed. While the other people there listening could appreciate the sound of it, or even get an inkling of the emotions behind the piece, only his kinsmen would truly understand what it meant to him. Kanone perhaps the most of all.]

... Would you want it to be a private performance, then?

[ and to tell you the truth, he's missed those concerts. he'd be hard-pressed to call himself a fan of high-culture, but there was always something about eyes' playing that made it worthwhile.

he finishes wrapping his fresh bandages and pins it in place. ]

Not truly. I've not advertised my skills at piano since arrival, nor have I sought more opportunity than necessary. [And now he allowed his gaze to fall on the hands spread before him, longing for the ivory of the piano that had been a part of his life for nearly as long as he could remember, the music that may very well be his salvation.]

There is no definite to how far the powers bestowed to my house may extend, or what mediums are needed to execute them.

[ ah, so that's how it is. he rolls down the cuff of his pants, still slightly bloody, and begins to return the medical supplies back to the kit. ]

... Not truly, I doubt any efforts I make would affect myself. [All he could think about in regards to that power ever since he was told of it was how utterly ironic it was. Had the 'gods' of this realm seen it fit to place him not only with that house, but to bestow upon him the ability to do to others what he himself so often struggled with?]

I would need others to test it on, but there is no one.

[ ... his heart cries out for you, little bro. there's a moment where he regards you with something close to chagrin-- it always pains him a little to think that his brother struggles so much with something that should honestly come naturally. but it's why he resolved to cry for this boy so many years ago, isn't it? ]

I wouldn't mind seeing its effects. Besides, I'm a little curious.

[He nearly has to do a double-take to make sure that Kanone had been the one to offer himself as a test subject. It didn't have anything to do with him offering himself, for this was not the first time that his brother had done so. It was simply a matter of him subjecting himself to the absurdity that was the magic of this world, something which he was wary of.

... And it may have to do with Eyes feeling uncomfortable with the prospect of singing out loud. Hence this look.]

[ he reads that look, and that double-take, and he manages to look sheepish, here. but of course, he'll be the one to verbalize his reasoning. ]

It's true that I don't trust the magic here as far as it's been presented. And to be honest, I don't see any reason to trust it. On the other hand, we'd be at a significant disadvantage if we don't at least understand it.

[ a shrug. then, a smile. ] And besides, I can't think of a safer testing ground than between the two of us. Even if the magic can't be trusted, I trust you.

[He could not argue with that reasoning, nor did he have much inclination to challenge it. It would be wrong to say that he had not been curious to see the effects... but to affect and manipulate his brother in that manner did not necessarily sit well with him, if what he had been told had been true.

He would just have to hope that Kanone's trust was not misplaced as very softly, almost to the point of being inaudible he beings to sing a wordless tune, a Mussorgsky composition that Kanone may recall as one he began to play more often at the tail end of when they had all been together. If anything, it should be able to spurn a sense of nostalgia, though Eyes was aiming more for a calming effect.

To create music with his voice rather than his hands... it was odd, but not necessarily unwelcome.]

[ to be honest, kanone's knowledge and receptivity towards classical music only stretches about as far as pieces that eyes played often enough to be engrained in his mind. therefore, it actually takes him several bars of listening very, very carefully to even pick up that the notes formed a song, let alone conveyed a song that he recognized.

but the magic of bardic influence doesn't hinge on musical recognition. rather, it works subconsciously-- and for someone who watches his own subconscious as closely as kanone, the effect is almost palpable. he begins to frown, slightly unsettled by the subtle shift. opens his mouth as though to say something, when--

oh.

he recognizes the tune at the same time as the effect of the music washes over him. let him sit here quietly for a moment, as he slowly closes his eyes, marveling at the fact that this was how that particular magic worked. ]

[Though Eyes continues to sing the piece, his focus is solely on Kanone and how he was affecting him with this power that he had never before used. He wasn't reacting badly, for that much he was grateful, but to see the magic at work was certainly something.

After several minutes of continuing at the same soft volume he finishes, clearing his throat just slightly upon completion and glancing at his brother with the faintest hint of curiosity painting his face. It was Kanone's opinion of this power that mattered the most, and whether or not he should continue to utilize it.]

[ kanone's only real visible reaction is the softening of his features and the closing of his eyes. no matter what little apprehension he might feel over this-- and he'd be lying if he said that he didn't feel a little, considering the nature of magic and all-- he reminds himself that this is eyes, and this is safe. it's a part of his trust in the other boy, and kanone believes in keeping faith in what he believes so strongly in.

instead, he focuses on the nostalgic sensation, exploring it and comparing it to his original state of mind. when eyes ceases his singing, he opens his eyes to give the other boy an impressed look of a sorts. ]

It's different than what I imagined it to be.

What sort of power were you expecting? [He is honestly curious – if he were not a musician himself he would have scoffed at the maid's claims of his power being able to affect the state of mind to his audience, all of which he was told when he first arrived. There was something beyond just the ability to manipulate emotions, but he was in no hurry to practice that either.]

Mm, maybe something with more lights and glowing effects?

[ he sounds perfectly serious here, even though he's completely joking. then, he chuckles. ] I don't know. I don't think I even had anything in mind, really.

If you had asked me if I really believed in magic before this, maybe I would have laughed.

[Lights and glowing effects? Really Kanone? Such things were ridiculous enough to read about in books, though again this realm hardly seemed to have a structure to which they could apply the logic thy normally would, if what he had just done been of any indication.]

You would not be the only one to think it rubbish. But have you attempted to use your own power before? [Maybe Kanone's would have the glowing effects he had been expecting, though he doubted it.]

[ it's not quite magic if it doesn't astound in some way, isn't it? though to be honest, he doesn't really believe in magic at all, even now-- and he still scrutinizes everything around him with skepticism. but that's beside the point-- ]

Just enough to know that it's a troublesome one. [ ahaha.. ha... ] I don't think I can bring myself to trust it.

Fair enough. [The fact that Kanone had tried at all spoke volumes, but what he planned to do with his power was his decision to make in the end. And knowing what he did of Hel House, it made sense that he would see it as troublesome.]

Should I trust my own?

It seems safe enough-- for now. [ but the caution is there-- we don't know what the power might evolve to. ]

Do you know anyone who has the same power?

... It would same that for as small as my house is, my power is not the majority. [He knows of a handful who have displayed the same abilities – one in particular not so favourably at times.]

I'd rather not you be the guinea pig this time around. I think we've already had a lifetime of that.

[ aaaand, with that, he tests out his ankle. ] Now, then. We have two choices-- stay or go?

Then I will put in the effort not to be. [He almost added on how they were already guinea pigs of the gods of this realm and whatever plans they had, but now did not seem to be the time for such blatant commentary.]

Should there be any reason for us to leave these facilities?

The view it offers is disadvantageous.

[ shaking his head, he offers a glance towards the curtained windows. even if they threw back the drapes, it wouldn't offer them enough of an insight as to what's going on outside. ] The lack of information in this situation is more dangerous than the dragon.

Would you happen to already have a location in mind? [Roofs were out of the question when the dragon was out spewing fire, and the park was crowded enough as it was. Going near bodies of water was preferable, though they could not stray too far with Kanone was injured as he was.]

Earlier it had seemed that its main focus was on the castle, and the hospital is the closest public facility to there.

Perhaps. But it sounds like you do, too.

[ it's true that kanone can't move far with his leg like this-- but on the other hand, he's prepared to push himself. this isn't the most dangerous situation they've been in, and it won't be the last. ]

I prepared a discreet walkway earlier-- it looks like it'll come in handy, now. If we enter the third building to the left from here, there's an exit out into an alleyway.
