[ It had worked once before, back in the heat of late summer in Asgard, so Jade was trying it again. She had dragged the sign out to the front of the store, right in the middle of the sidewalk, and written in huge letters:

free hot chocolate! :D
just come inside ♥

The temperature hadn't broken the sixty degree mark today - it was getting chilly fast. Both Orihime and Annabeth were gone, and the store was oddly quiet. Jade will be found keeping herself busy throughout the day with odd little chores when it's completely empty of customers - sweeping, dusting, and occasionally dozing in a booth near the door when the boredom becomes too much to bear. ]

[ And, for a very brief moment, she's stumped. ]

Not usually. We've stayed pretty busy, actually? Today is just an off day, I think.

[ But she ducks around the counter, throwing together a pretty impressively sized mug of hot chocolate. ]

You know, I never really appreciated this stuff until I came here.

[ ...she was kidding about the sugar coma, Jade, dear god. ]

You didn't appreciate chocolate?

[ She's a teenage girl!! She takes her sugar comas very seriously. ]

Not hot chocolate. I grew up in a tropical climate.

If you're implying hot beverages are a seasonal treat, we're about to have what's called a difference of opinion.

Ehehehe! It's all a matter of personal preference, yeah... but I've never preferred hot drinks on the beach.

I lived on an island growing up.

Of the tropical tourist variety, I'm guessing?

Nope! No tourists. It was just me.

Well, sort of! My grandpa died when I was really little. But I had my dog.

Rewind. Do you mean you lived alone, took care of yourself, that deal, or... It was literally you and your dog alone on an island, castaway style?

Well, I mean, I grew up there... it wasn't like I was shipwrecked or anything silly like that. [ Her expression is almost a little embarrassed. ] But Bec and I had the island to ourselves after grandpa died, yeah.

...you're insanely well-socialized for living alone on an island most of your life, dude.
