[ It had worked once before, back in the heat of late summer in Asgard, so Jade was trying it again. She had dragged the sign out to the front of the store, right in the middle of the sidewalk, and written in huge letters:

free hot chocolate! :D
just come inside ♥

The temperature hadn't broken the sixty degree mark today - it was getting chilly fast. Both Orihime and Annabeth were gone, and the store was oddly quiet. Jade will be found keeping herself busy throughout the day with odd little chores when it's completely empty of customers - sweeping, dusting, and occasionally dozing in a booth near the door when the boredom becomes too much to bear. ]

Even if they do. [She agrees, even though she has and has always had a certain reluctance to believe that that's the case.]

I wouldn't blame them if they did send people away because they were a threat to everyone else, but... more than that would be too much, I think. [She's too quick to pity, but--] Forgetting is a punishment in itself.

Unless they see this place as a nuisance. I'm certain there are some who couldn't wait to forget.

[Harry doesn't think he'll ever meet someone like that, but still.]

Of course. That's very true. ... But to tell you the truth? I haven't met anyone who didn't at least gain something from being here. Considering how long I've been in the city, I think that says a lot.

Whether they actually like it here or not is a different story, but... I like to think that there are things worth remembering about it for everyone. [Although she can readily and unconcernedly admit,] Not that they'd necessarily see it that way.

There are some, I think, who would hate to be found powerless. [Voldemort being one, but he knows Voldemort wouldn't easily leave behind his memories of this place.

No, they would end up being too useful in the long run.]

Oh, I know. [She knows because she's been made comparatively powerless, herself.] But I think, in at least some of those cases, it may be for the better.

[Not comfortable, exactly-- but better.] Not just for them, but for everyone else, too. Not everyone is responsible with the gifts they've been given.

No, I'd certainly say I agree. It might be too difficult to do any good here if a good number of people are ... er, uncontrollable.

[The idea of any number of people having their power worries Harry. There are some he likes fine this way, but he wonders what they would be unleashed, so to speak. There are others he definitely thinks do better without their abilities, however.]

[As much as she hates to put it in terms of control, that's really the only accurate way to say it.] Exactly. While I don't like the idea of anyone putting a leash on us, so to speak, I know there are some people who need an incentive to behave themselves.

I guess for the rest of us, it keeps us honest. [That's what they say, isn't it?] There's no way to make mistakes with powers you no longer have.

[Even if it still doesn't sit well with her, really, to be so thoroughly contained.]

If you're the kind to make mistakes, that is, yeah.

[Though Harry knows that his family would do better if they had their powers—and if Hermione did, too. They're all such good wizards and witches, it's terrible that they're without them.]

Mm. [She almost sighs, but stops herself.] I suppose I'm just trying to look on the bright side. There's a lot of good that could be done with them, too.

[It'd just kind of be messy, some people having powers and others not and how would they even sort that out, anyway? Sounds like a political nightmare if she ever heard of one.]

I know, and it is a good bright side.

[Harry pauses and looks around.]

This ended up being a rather serious discussion given, er, why we're here.

[She has the decency to look sheepish, at least.]

Right, sorry. [Because wow, that really was sort of serious.] I, um-- never have been much for keeping things light when I should. [Not that she doesn't try, or isn't successful sometimes, but-- well, there are also times when she tends to overlook the setting, so to speak.] I didn't mean to cause any trouble.

No, I do too, clearly, it's all right.

[He just suddenly realized that this is likely the exact opposite of the kind of conversation that Jade foresaw this evening.]

[She laughs, albeit quietly and briefly.]

I guess we're a pretty sorry pair, then. [Or something like that.] Well, hopefully Jade won't mind too much. We could always try talking about something nicer. [-- Er,] Unless you wanted to get back to the hot chocolate. [Can't go taking up all his time, wow Naminé.]

I might go around and talk to someone else, actually. Er, not to part, but there are some of my other friends here.

[Harry does feel a little bad, though.]

It's been nice meeting you, Naminé.

[She shakes her head firmly, offering a smile. See? No reason to feel bad.]
