Getting to know you

[From the outside, the small medieval-style fortress appears unoccupied, but on the inside, the first meeting of Asgard's strike team. For the next two days, members are invited to get to know one another, share what they can do, train, or...you know, team build.

For those who wish experiment with working together, equipment has been set up to form an obstacle course of sorts that takes up half the gym area. (Those who have trained with the Assassins on their capture-the-flag courses may feel the similarities.) Plenty of seating is available for those who just want to mingle or talk strategy.

There are also snacks. Eat them.]

"So I wouldn't die. You get shot for being outside the quarantine zone usually." Shitty fact of life.

"Well, ours aren't really zombies but people usually ask fewer questions than if I say that they're people infected with a fungus that eventually turns them into bloated mushroom people running around trying to rip you into bloody pieces," Riley explained, her tone like she was just talking about the weather.

Nobody. [She frowned and looked them over.] I should feel worse about calling on some of them, but they're more skilled than a lot of people much older in this city... that and they've grown up fast.

"The first day I was here, I met Henry. Have you met Henry?"

As far as Ellie's concerned, that's explanation enough. She lifts an eyebrow.

"I stabbed Henry."

[tonsofpun]

Immediately, she feels bad. So she reaches out and links an arm through Tris's, pulling her along towards the start of the course.

"Exactly. Can't give up. Can't freeze up later, when it counts."

There's stuffing your face and there's not being a coatrack. You're currently a face stuffing coat hanger.

If there had been a choice I would not be on this path again, one destruction of a civilization should be enough for one person to live throught and yet... here one is again and stopping it may be only as effective as shouting at the sea to stop rising with the tide.

The scream as Ellie had fallen had caught Maria's attention, and she had watched intently as Ellie had attempted it again. The girl had determination, that much was certain, and she was intuitive and adept enough with her Asgardian powers to use them to adapt to her situation. A little while later, after it seems that she's done with the obstacle course, Maria makes her way over to her with a cup of water and offers it to her.

"I like what you did with those vines. I hope it was only your pride that was hurt when you fell."

[snowstormed]

[Don't mind him if he just eyes you with suspicion, Doctor. He does that to pretty much everyone, though the Doctor does get a good deal more of it than everyone else who's approached him so far.]

Why? [Who takes an interest in other people's sandwiches, seriously.]

[snowstormed]

Later. [He glances at the course, then back at Connor, a thoughtful look in his eyes. He'd certainly be able to get a better measure of Connor's skills on the course.] You going to run too?

[snowstormed]

[There's a nod there, slight and brief but noticeable enough. He shoves his metal hand back into his pocket, seemingly casual, but the occasional brief glance around--to the exit points, or to the people--and the slight wariness in his movements, as if he's preparing to either fight or flee at a moment's notice, probably says more about him than that casual movement.]

And you? [It's asked both out of curiosity and a desire to shift the conversation away from some--well, sensitive details.]

"Oh? What did you guys do before?"

He's been out of this particular loop, so he can't help but be curious about all the things that may have been going on behind the scenes while he was still going solo.

Shitty indeed. But congrats, you've piqued his curiosity.

"Quarantine zone? You're gonna have to explain more than that."

[samantha_grey]

"It was more by accident. We ended up stuck in a mirror world together and I saw her in action," she said, shaking her head. "She's good in a pinch, and has plenty of street smarts. I'm guessing you've probably got something of your own you're hiding away."

[samantha_grey]

[She nodded.] Most of my jobs back home were ones that needed stealth. The Force had me on scouting missions most of the time, and I'd report back whatever the latest moron was trying. This has been up my alley for a while.

Besides, hunting giants isn't any different from hunting pissed off possums. The giants just smell worse and will kill you.

( the voice doesn't startle her, though she does flash a rare smile at the other girl, rolling her shoulders and stretching her arms above her head. it was a testament to the lengths she'd gone to keep in shape that she was already loose and ready to move; she would have thought that the movements would be less natural after so long -- some things never change, however. )

A little bit of showing off never hurt anyone.

Taken your chances with the course yet?

He lifts a hand to his chin thoughtfully. "Street smarts, huh... Well, she's definitely good at climbing rooftops, at least." That's about the most he's seen of her, really.

And in response to the last part: "...Is there anyone here who isn't?"

"Oh." Connor winces sympathetically... for Ellie, not the stabbing. That psycho probably enjoyed it. "Henry's batshit, I'm not a fan either."

[daddyissues]

I already did a few times, when we set it up... but yeah, I'll go again. [ He offers another smile, curious this time. ] You're sizing everyone up first?

[daddyissues]

Connor blinks, then says, "That makes way more sense than zombies, though."

Which is possibly not the reaction Riley's used to.

It won't be when I'm done with you. But we should wait until everyone flammable clears out.

[sophie spends a fair bit of time just looking around, watching the others. the citadel is a familiar place to her, considering how much time she's spent there, though it's been different, lately.

after a time, she takes off her shoes, braids her hair back, and gives the obstacle course a run. for all that she looks like a little bird-boned slip of a thing, sophie is quick, fearless and very good at climbing. months of morning parkour-style runs over asgard's rooftops have ensured that. she rarely falters, but when she does, shadows seem to solidify around her, providing a surface for a stumbling foot or a shield to take the brunt of a rough landing.]

"Here? Probably not. Asgard, I don't know. There's folks that are pretty much open books in the city," she said, shrugging. "Though that does make me wonder what your story is, behind the scenes."

[The initial comment makes the corners of her mouth kick up. It's a sentiment that sounds like home - even if the thoughts of home have been soured somewhat, she appreciates them. She follows up with a nod.]

Yeah. Not as gracefully as that though.

[It's slow going, loosening the hold fear has on her at every jump. One long fall was enough for the roots to run deep. But she's working on it, and isn't that the important part?]

Preparedness eliminates cowardice, which we define as failure to act in the midst of fear- Tris takes a deep breath, and by the second step, Ellie doesn't have to pull her along, she keeps up on her own.

"Right. We're... apparently gonna be doing important work, and stuff."

Her tone falls short of the kind of lightness she's aiming for, landing instead in somewhat sarcastic territory.
