Day 515 ( Sept. 25/26 ): Progress through the ice blockade will be slow and narrow, as they can't possibly hope to clear the entirety of the forest that has been buried under Thiazi's black ice. Now that they know the source of her magic's corruption, it might not come as a great surprise when cracking open the ice unleashes a strange burst of magic.

At the halfway point between Utgard and Asgard, a pulse of energy will move through the entire city, immediately putting every mortal it touches to sleep. This part of the curse is mandatory and your character must fall asleep; the dream effects of it are not mandatory, and can be played with at your discretion. During this first wave, Travellers will be granted a brief dream - that does not belong to them. They will see, from the dreamer's point of view, every hope and goal and aspiration that the dreamer wishes to complete before the end of days. Whether it's simply confessing their love to an old friend or saving their home planet or perfecting an Asgardian pie, your character will see someone else's ideal resolution before Ragnarok. Upon waking, the Travellers will be plagued with the indistinct whispering of several voices overlapping one another and a slight headache. Both symptoms will gradually increase over time until it reaches incapacitating pain and nausea. The only way to assuage the symptoms is to find the owner of the dream and either maintain physical contact for an hour or discuss the subject of the dream until a full confession has been made. After that, the symptoms will fade and the Travellers will be free to carry on with their day.

There will be other pulses of magic at random throughout the day; these are not mandatory and you can feel free to have your character experience as many or as few dreams as you wish. All dream-sharing will cease by the end of the day, as the blockade progresses past that centre-point of magic.

"A brat who sucks at talking about himself and would rather tell people to go fuck themselves and to leave him alone because he's awesome."

She gives him a pointed smile. "An Ellie."

Killua stares at her, getting brighter red, mouth open.

"Sh- shut up! That's ridiculous!"

It doesn't matter if she's got a point. This is definitely ridiculous, just on principle. What the heck is he supposed to say to something like that?

She laughs a bit then leans in closer to him.

"Is it? Pretty sure you're doing exactly what I said and it's kind of fucking you over."

"You know what?"

He doesn't know either, actually, and doesn't follow up, just sitting there with his face red and not sure what to say.

"I- I don't care. It's none of your business anyway. I'm not going to kiss him."

"So don't kiss him. It doesn't change the fact that you still have to tell me why you want to kiss him though."

It's kind of an important detail.

"...why?"

He pauses, taken aback.

"Yeah. I know why I want to kiss Ellie and why I like all the stuff I have from her. Why do you want to kiss Gon?" she asks him, her smile softening.

It's a good question. He knows why, but he hasn't thought about how to put it into words, how to explain it to anyone else. Killua falls quiet this time, the defensiveness fading away, and he stares at his hands on the table for a few minutes, trying to think.

"Gon was... the first real friend I had," he manages finally, quiet, uncomfortable because saying this aloud is embarrassing and the feelings are still confusing and new to him. He hates feeling awkward or unsure of what to do, but when he thinks about this, he can't help it. It's okay when Gon is there. Everything feels natural, then. But explaining it is a lot harder than he'd expected.

There's a lot he wants to say to Gon, but he doesn't know how.

"He cared enough to come after me when I left. He risked his life for me when he didn't have to. He's... a good person. I admire him."

"Sounds like you just don't want to lose him."

She knows what that's like actually. It's why she ran back to Ellie, why she's willing to fight to be with her still. She knows it's all going to end but...

"Maybe that's what the dream is really about."

"Of course I don't want to lose him," Killua whispers, and sounds like he's already resigned to it happening.

"Buuuuuuuut?" It totally sounds like there's a giant ass but in there.

"But nothing. That's it. I'm going to stay with him."

Gon had said they were still traveling together, and he's from... quite a bit ahead. That has to be good, right?

"But you're counting down the days, aren't you. Me too." Every last second.

"I don't know." He sighs, crossing his arms on top of the table and leaning forward a bit, fidgeting in his chair.

"It's just-- We talked, a while ago. And he said we could travel together until I find something else to do. But... that's really all I wanted to do. Just keep traveling with him. I like it."

"Is there something that would stop you from traveling with him?"

Far as she can tell, they've got a good thing going. But, she doesn't really know all the details either. At least they were both alive to her knowledge?

"Not really. It's not that."

He shrugs, leaning back in his seat this time. He is feeling better, at least.

"I'm having fun with him. I want to stay. ...Even if I know it can't last forever."

"Sounds like you should make every moment count. It's what I'm doing."

Riley smiles brightly at him then nudges his leg with her foot. "It's what you do with friends like that. You look for all the ways that can make you smile for as long as possible."

The smile is contagious-- a little bit like Gon's, almost. He can't help but smile back.

"You're right."

He kicks back, some of his regular energy returning, even if he's still somewhat embarrassed.

"Thanks, Riley."

"Psh. You don't have to thank me. Just keep being my friend and we'll be even."

Holding out her hand to him, she laughs a bit. "Deal?"

He reaches out to smack her hand lightly, a sideways sort of high-five.

"Deal."

"Worst handshake ever!"

She reaches out to grab his hand because they have to do a proper handshake here! That's how it works!

"What?" He laughs but shakes her hand.

"Why does it have to be a handshake?"

"I don't know. It's what they do in books and shit for deals."

She puts on her most official and serious face. "Mister Killua, I am pleased to have made this deal with you. I hope our future business arrangements will continue to go as smoothly."

He's still cracking up, shaking his head at her.

"Riley, you're weird."

Now she bursts out laughing, holding her stomach as she does.

"But I'm adorable!"
