Progress through the ice blockade will be slow and narrow, as they can't possibly hope to clear the entirety of the forest that has been buried under Thiazi's black ice. Now that they know the source of her magic's corruption, it might not come as a great surprise when cracking open the ice unleashes a strange burst of magic.

At the halfway point between Utgard and Asgard, a pulse of energy will move through the entire city, immediately putting every mortal it touches to sleep. This part of the curse is mandatory and your character must fall asleep; the dream effects of it are not mandatory, and can be played with at your discretion. During this first wave, Travellers will be granted a brief dream - that does not belong to them. They will see, from the dreamer's point of view, every hope and goal and aspiration that the dreamer wishes to complete before the end of days. Whether it's simply confessing their love to an old friend or saving their home planet or perfecting an Asgardian pie, your character will see someone else's ideal resolution before Ragnarok. Upon waking, the Travellers will be plagued with the indistinct whispering of several voices overlapping one another and a slight headache. Both symptoms will gradually increase over time until it reaches incapacitating pain and nausea. The only way to assuage the symptoms is to find the owner of the dream and either maintain physical contact for an hour or discuss the subject of the dream until a full confession has been made. After that, the symptoms will fade and the Travellers will be free to carry on with their day.

There will be other pulses of magic at random throughout the day; these are not mandatory and you can feel free to have your character experience as many or as few dreams as you wish. All dream-sharing will cease by the end of the day, as the blockade progresses past that centre-point of magic.

Yosuke fell quiet again, but only momentarily. If it had been for a second longer, he might have been sympathetic. Too bad he didn't last that extra second before his brain seized onto something else. "You say that videogame sounding stuff with a straight face, but you don't like magic?" he said, quirking an eyebrow before he could stop himself.

"It is not a game. Ours is a galactic empire spanning countless systems, waging war against numerous enemies of vast panoplies of species," he said, puffing himself up. "Conquest is very much endemic to my species. The fact that I also was sucked into a foolish video game that did the same thing has nothing to do with it."

Oh, was that a prideful streak he detected? Yosuke was about to seize on it almost reflexively, too - but happily for him, and probably both of them, another minor detail grabbed him before he could roll his eyes.

"Sucked into... a game?" he repeated cautiously. He couldn't help it, even knowing it was a shade hypocritical of him when he'd tried so hard to sound jaded and worldly a second ago. Out of all the crazy stories he'd heard from people in Asgard, he couldn't remember encountering one that sounded so much like getting sucked into a TV before.

"A very stupid and foolish thing," he muttered, shaking his head. "We were dragged into it by the lack of wisdom and timeliness of one of our fellows, and the whole expedition proved to be interrelated in an abortive attempt to rebuild our world after it's subsequent destruction. It was a ridiculous venture, all around. Unfortunately, the others were better versed in its details. I simply hit things."

Despite himself, Yosuke couldn't hold back a vaguely nostalgic smile. "Ha, I think I know someone else like that. Sounds rough, though... Wouldn't that make normal stuff like hanging out with friends even more of a change? Dream or no. If you didn't break it up sometimes, you'd go crazy."

"If you were to ask my moirail, yes. She would appreciate the opportunity greatly, but her blood was always more of a mixed nature than mine," he growled, sighing as he did. "My species is one that is filled with rage the purer our blood type. Once you ascend to my blood or purer, we are more comfortable when we are in the midst of our task or the making of armed conflict. It is just our way."

"However, I have attempted this... merriment for her sake in the past."

"Wow," said Yosuke, after a moment. "I'm sorry I asked. Or maybe you just really need to try that stuff more." If he sounded sarcastic, most of it was unintentional - but people like this always made him feel like he needed to protest on the behalf of the weirdness in his life.

"If you were to ask Nepeta, I really need to attempt it more often. However, she attempted it a touch too often for my tastes," he grumbled. "She was always too affectionate and friendly for her own good, so long as she wasn't angered, which was a rarity."

He sighed briefly, shaking his head. "Our cultures are simply very different. I've grown accustomed to it with time, but old habits die difficult deaths."

"Huh, you're telling me."

Yosuke fell quiet again, looking unusually thoughtful for a moment. "In that case - oh, wait, first off, what's your name? I'm Yosuke Hanamura. Um, Souji Seta's partner, if you know him." It was worth a shot. Sometimes Souji seemed to have met just about every strange character in town he hadn't. "And I kinda owe you one for just now, so..."

"Equius Zahhak," he said, nodding as the young man introduced himself. "And no, I have never met him in the past. But, do not concern yourself exceptionally over my removing this from you, unless you are the sort that ... you are the sort who insists on repaying a debt such as this, yes?"

Yosuke went faintly pink. "Dude, not when you say it like that! I'm not trying to be weird. It's just, like, maybe the next time we all take a day off... I mean," he added, his sheepish expression clearing a little, "if anyone's good at picking up misfits, it's us. What do you say?"

"That would be acceptable, yes," he managed, canting his head a bit at the coloration. "You will have to forgive me, but your culture is next to impossible for me to remember various elements of. I invariably falter at something."

"Cool!" Yosuke rubbed his still slightly gritty hands together and gave Equius a lopsided attempt at a smile. "Then that's settled. So don't worry about it, you hear? I wouldn't call most of the people I know cultured either..."

"You are the one to express it thusly, not I," he said in the tone of someone who was grateful that someone had said what he might have been thinking in his own judgmental way. He attempted to return the smile with snaggled fangs bristling in his maw. "And yes, I think that settles the matter nicely."
