Welcome to Lux —

It's been under construction for about a month, and anyone in the Baldr district (or who just liked to wander) surely would have noticed the bar's construction. It was only a few days ago that the sign was finally put up—Lux.

Maybe you saw the owner's post on the network and decided to come see. Or maybe you were just walking past and was curious about the crowd of people who had gathered. Regardless, you'll be welcomed into a ritzy bar and lounge. There are some locals mingling about, and jazz is drifting through the air, since the owner is currently playing.

Should you decide to stay, you'll find that the drinks and food are very generously half price for grand opening. Or, if that's not to your taste, then surely the music and crowd will make up for it.

Welcome to Lux, the bar owned by the Devil himself.

I've had two separate people tell me this stuff! And I think they're both trustworthy, so I don't think they'd lie about this.

Because everyone takes singing lessons back home. Hardly anyone has any interest in instruments.

[ It does show; and the rarity of this kind of exposition is actually a tremendous comfort. ]

I've read about islands. How they're made and what they're made of? But... My geology book didn't describe any of them at all like that. You're - [ she half-snorts and tugs on her hair ] You're actually kind of the first person who's told me that much about where they come from. I was beginning to wonder if we're...just meant to keep it a secret.

It sounds nice, though. Your home. Does it have a name?

[ If she weren't so caught up in her own thoughts - her own still-lingering fear - she might notice the shift. But as it is, she looks to Diva with something of a scolding expression, bordering almost on a jest. ]

I wasn't finished.

[corona]

How did you end up singing here tonight anyway? It looks fun.

I impressed the owner.~ He hired me, so I'll be singing a couple nights a week as a second job.

[Hmhm that makes her wonder.]

... Are you any good at singing?

[corona]

Hmm. Maybe? Pascal likes it when I sing to him before bed. And Mother and I spent most of the time singing in the parlor...

Well, if you're serious about it you should audition for him! It's a good job - you only work for an hour or couple of hours a night and it pays really well.

[At least Diva's surprised enough by that expression that it fades away. Her brow furrows, but she nods slightly, to encourage her to continue.]

[ Well...two jobs are better than one right? All the jobs! The more the better! ]

Who am I auditioning for again?

Lucifer! The guy with the big white bird wings. He's an angel.

[uglyinside]

[ Johan holds his hand out for her, giving his head a gentlemanly bow in the process. ]

Then do come in. I could seat you personally, if you'd like.

[uglyinside]

We wouldn't want that now, would we? [ He's just going to walk right beside her, aaand hold the door open for her, of course. ] Are you going to see our lovely performer, tonight?

[uglyinside]

[ He looks genuinely confused for a moment, then a bit abashed. ] Oh--? No, no, not at all. I simply noticed a pattern, that's all. I was wondering if you fit it...

[uglyinside]

It is. Isn't it? [ He nods, though his kind smile turns more apologetic. ] I still have to make you something. My apologies, I've been busy, and I don't want you to think I'm the type to make empty promises.

[uglyinside]

[ Though he's surprised at the offer, it doesn't show on his expression. He holds a neutral smile, eyes watching the man carefully once again, looking almost as if he were drawn in by him. ] That sounds like a fair deal. [ One made by a man with no secrets to lose, or one whose secrets could hardly be guessed or comprehended by an ordinary person. ]

So. Something small, then?

[uglyinside]

It usually can help, though I'm not quite sure with your biology. [ He just... ignores her dream at first, because he's not sure what she means by it, but he's also crazy and dreams about going to sleep and waking up within his dreams all of the time...

actually that is all he dreams about ever. But he's sure it's some vague allusion to something she's experienced before. Eventually, he decides asking her about it would make for good conversational fodder as he turns to get her a glass of water. ]

Tell me what you mean. [ A pause between words as he puts some ice in a cup! ] About going to sleep.

I'M SORRY FOR THIS AWKWARD TAG HE IS AWKWARD IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN...

[uglyinside]

... [ He stares in silence, the atmosphere around them turning cold suddenly. ]

[uglyinside]

[ He circles the table so he's at her side more, though remains standing. Eyes leaving hers and drifting to the middle of the table, he reaches into the breast pocket of his coat and pulls out a lighter, leaning forward to flick it against the unlit candle that had been set aside. ] Now, I wonder who missed that, earlier.

[ He glances over at her, the curve of his lips becoming more pronounced. ]

Just watching others tonight, then?

Yes. That's correct.

[She glances briefly at the small, warm flame before switching her focus to him, watching the barest hint of a smile beginning to grow. If he think he has found a worthy conversation partner, he is sadly mistaken. Among the dancing, the excited babble, the happy drinkers and diners, she looks no more enthused than if she was working.]

[uglyinside]

And have you seen anything of interest, tonight? [ He rests his hands at the table, leaning in just a bit as he closes his eyes to the music. ]
