[The moment the sirens sounded, the ladies of Folkvang Comfort House opened their doors. They cleared away their equipment and pulled out the supplies they'd gathered in advance, and began herding children, the elderly, and anyone who needed to hide into their buildings. For the duration of the battles, there will be food, shelter, warmth and safety here, though the smells and sounds of battle are never truly gone.]

I know, but I need no pity... [By that time Mariko is more or less back to her feet, though her legs still feel almost like wool, and she looks at him with a smirk.] You see, Francis-san? I'm all right, I just need to rest up some more!

[ he grins back, still holding out his hand ]

[ just in case she falls over ]

[But she doesn't take it, and upon hearing his last words she looks at him as if he had two heads.]

... You're offering alcohol to a minor? I'm just sixteen, and I can't accept it!

[ well, that's actually a surprise to him ]

...Water, then?

[Don't worry Francis, it's not like he's the first person who pegs her for an older girl anyway...]

... There won't be anything odd in it? Really?

[She might distrust men but it's not like she can reject him openly when she's in this state!]

Why would there be anything "odd" in it?

A Frenchman does not flatter a woman by going against her wishes, after all!

[She sighs and looks at him, her red lips pursed into something that looks suspiciously like a pout.] But aren't all men the same, be French or not?

But of course not!

[ he sounds genuinely surprised ]

A Frenchman always knows exactly how to treat a woman, regardless of where her affections lie, oui? We are not called the country of love for nothing, after all!

[She sighs, but when she talks she seems to be more bitter and tired than angry.] But men are always the same, anywhere and anytime! And never up to anything good.

My dear, I am simply offering you help and a glass of water.

You must be parched after all you've been through, non?

[ despite what she's saying, he doesn't seem too upset (simply confused) and remains there for as long as she talks with him. ]

[He doesn't seem to have made any move, and Mariko is too exhausted to resist at this point. Despite her harsh words, she slowly extends her hand and takes his own to have more support.]

If you're not doing that out of pity or to do something else, then I'll accept it. Merci, is it...?

[ and France carefully supports her by holding that hand firmly, ready to make a move to catch her if she were to stumble, just in case. ]

Merci, it is! It means "thank you".

[ He grins brightly at her ]

Merci to you for allowing me to help you out, my dear.

[ He gives her a wink, as if to say, "this isn't so bad, is it?" ]

[She goes scarlet when he winks at her.] A-ah! Don't get me wrong, Francis-san, this is just because I can't walk alone this time! Really!

But of course, don't mind me!

Shall we go get that glass of water for you, then?

[ he'll help her enough so at least she doesn't fall over, now. ]

[Her pride won't let her, so she begins to take her "baby" steps. One, two, three... all the ones she needs to get to the nearest couch.]

When I'm already sitting, Francis-san. It won't take long, I can do it!

[ Spots the couch out of the corner of his eye. Of course. ]

In that case, let's try and get there quickly.

[ But he'll still match her pace of walking, careful to not move fast. ]

I suppose you'd like me to bring it here for you, then?

I don't think I can do a lot about it, after all. [But she does sound somewhat less harsh than before.] But still, I would be very thankful if you did.
