END OF ARC 1: DAY 173 DOWNTIME
[Two days of battle have been harsh. The hospital and the Arena are both nearing full, and the smell of charred wood still remains from the few buildings set on fire in Freya district by a dragon on Day 168. Nothing is truly quiet, but this is another welcome break in the violence.
The only question is: how many more cycles can we survive? Though we did well yesterday, it's clear that we'll be wiped out soon if nothing changes.]
[ooc note: this is the catch-all log for Day 173 (Nov 12-13). There is no battle, but there are a lot of general npc wounded of all different species (some of which are outlined here). You can find the battle log for Days 171-172 here, and the shelter log here.
Please be sure to include the day/time of day in the subject line of top-level threads. Also, be sure to have read the entire plot post.
There is a timeline of all important posts in the ooc comm here. If you have plot questions, please submit them to the plot post so everyone else can get the answers. Thank you!]

Jo Harvelle | Day 173 | thor and hospital
[She was one of many that spent most of the past two days fighting, and the night before helping to bring in all wounded and dying. And when she says wounded, she means to the point of needing the help. She's covered in gashes and bruises and she's pretty sure she broke her wrist, but it doesn't matter much when there are allies who have lost limbs, who are passed out in the field.
So when she does find time to rest? It's very much a 'here's an open spot against the wall, I'll just sit right here and sleep'. Feel free to come up and sit next to her, heal her, what have you. If it's healing, she'll be pretty likely to push you away - there are other people who need it more - but her resolve isn't as strong as in battle. If you push enough she'll give in.]
situation b: evening/night
[she's been healed, she's has a few hours of sleep, and now she's back up and moving around. The healers and other people with helpful powers are still at work, so Jo figures they'll need some help themselves. She knows a few of the healers, and as she moves around she looks for them, looks to give them a little boost. Maybe find some food while she's at it - sitting around wasn't something she liked to do, so feel free to run into her anywhere there are large groups of people collecting. She's also looking for people to restock her ammunition - she lost too many arrows out there, doesn't have enough bullets. If, no when, they have their next cycle she needs to be ready.]
A
Frustrated, he spots the woman leaning against the wall holding her wrist. It's obviously either a sprain or a break, either of which could be made less painful with his ice power. He approaches her quietly.]
Um.. excuse me..
no subject
Yeah? [She's a little too tired to be snippy and add the 'can I help you?', so she just waits for him to explain. She's never seen him before, or maybe she has but she just doesn't remember. With all that's been going on the past couple of days, it's quite possible.]
no subject
I see that your wrist is either sprained or broken... Can I help with that? My power is that of ice...
[He tentatively holds out his hand.]
no subject
She holds out her hand.]
Sure. [A pause, and then:] Thanks. I'm Jo, by the way.
no subject
Spencer.
[He carefully wraps both of his hands around her damaged wrist, then closes his eyes, concentrating on sending the ice through his fingers. He knows that he needs to be careful because she could get frostbite if he overdoes it.]
no subject
That's handy.
no subject
I was brainstorming ways that such a thing could be useful and this is one of the things I came up with.
no subject
[She doesn't pull her hand away from him, but watches where his hand meets her wrist. As if she could see his power working.]
But you could fight with that, too.
no subject
[Because he can't shoot ice. He has to create it on surfaces that he touches with his hands. That may change if he is able to upgrade his power some day, as he's heard others have done.]
no subject
[Then again, his powers were probably more useful around here. With all the injuries and issues left over from the fight...she shakes her head, mostly to herself.]
Sorry, long day.
no subject
I haven't slept in approximately 18 hours. I should probably try to sleep soon because my cognitive functioning has already been affected.
[Not by much, but enough to make his thinking less clear and his reaction times slower.]
no subject
[Well that was sure a lot of high vocabulary for someone who, she assumes, was trying to say he was tired. But the ridiculousness of that whole sentence - and by ridiculousness she means unexpectedness - she laughs a little.]
You mean you're tired?
no subject
[Yes, this is how he talks on a regular basis. It's normal conversation to him.]
no subject
Yeah. We're all kind of running on steam.
[Sorry Reid, she's usually surrounded by men who barely graduated high school. They know a shotgun inside and out, but vocab above the tenth grade? Probably pushing it.]
Don't push too hard, though. I'm sure there's an open spot somewhere.
(no subject)
A | TOO MANY THREADS? nope perish the thought
And that's how Jackson spots Jo sitting near a wall, looking about as utterly exhausted as he feels (although he's sure that with her using her power, the effects must be ten times worse), and he makes his way over to her. He's not in any great shape himself, sporting a large gash on the side of his face that he holds a bandage too. Everything in his body aches and so he has no problem collapsing right beside her. The good thing though, is that he'd managed to find some food. It's little, but it's something and he'd learned the importance of getting something to eat after the first few days. ]
Hey. [ His voice is soft as he nudges her knee with his own to try and get her attention. ]
not possible. as I write up another tag for your other jackson downtime.... >.>
Her body just needs rest, after all. Not sleep. Not that she can really go to sleep with everything happening around her. Her body could, but her mind?
But that leaves her in a almost constant state of 'out of it', to which she doesn't really notice people moving around her. Jo only closes her eyes for a minute when Jackson comes up and sits next to her. Doesn't even notice he's there until he taps her knee, to which she jumps, freaks out for half a moment, then calms down when she notices who it is.
She gives him a small smile as she relaxes, holding her wrists to her chest.]
Hey. Nice face. [she's talking about the gash, just in case he couldn't tell.]
i think i've lost count at this point pfft
[ He means in general. The gash, he's not too sure about. Right now he's just hoping that it won't leave too ugly of a scar. But he's also hoping that trying for lightheartedness will work better for them in this situation than sitting around and actually letting their attention drift to how bad things really are.
He opts for resting a hand on one of her knees once she's calmed down and offers her the bits of food that he'd managed to gather. ]
You should eat something.
me too, and it's perfect.
She can't really blame anyone for that, though. Doesn't mean she has to like it. The food, though, is nice, and she takes half of what he's offering her - no way is she going to take all of his food, despite probably needing it. They both probably need it, and she's not going to risk the possibility Jackson is just handing it all over. Nope.]
Thanks. [She nods, holds up the food for a moment in a sort of mock-toast, before starting in on it with her good hand.] So how are you holding up?
no subject
Better than a lot of other people. [ still pretty badly but shhh, look at all the injured people around them instead. ]
You don't seem like you're doing too great.
no subject
Therefore, Jackson, you should take her silence as a thank you because she's too busy eating. She does not at the 'other people' comment, because there are so many who were doing a lot worse. At least they were alive. It's not until he mentions her that she frowns and shrugs, but the shrug causes her to wince because of the wrist and the whole effect is ruined.]
I'm fine. It's nothing major, just annoying.
no subject
[ Oh, he definitely noticed. One only makes that kind of face when there's pain involved and he knows it all too well. He also knows how her stubborn streak can match his, so he figures there's no way better than to just ask outright. ]
What did you hurt?
no subject
[But it's no use. They're too alike, which means Jo knows he's going to keep bugging her about it. It's the same she'd do to him.]
Once of those giants got a hold of me, that's it. [That's not really it, because it involved a lot of grabbing and throwing her against a building and all that other fun stuff she doesn't want to go into. The rest of her is fine, and she's not even sure if it was the grab or the falling on her hands that broke it, but it sucks because that's her shooting arm.]
It's just a little sore.
no subject
It seems like it's a little more than just sore to me. But I'm not the one who let the giants get a hold, so what would I know?
[ WORRIED in the slightest sense. ]
no subject
Instead, she stares at him a moment, seeing if he'll back down. When he doesn't, she sighs and gently sets her wrist in his hand, doing her best not to move it in any way that would make her flinch.]
It'll be fine in a couple of days.
