July: General Fourth-Wall Mingle

What: General mingling for the fourth wall event!

Where: All across the city!
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ Away from the rest of the festivities, there are still new arrivals popping into unexpected places without warning on Day 290 (July 5). Guards and maids will be wandering around with baskets of the temporary bracelets, looking to give one to every visitor along with any information they might need to thrive in the days until their gods can sort out this magical mishap.

Temporary housing will be set up in the Folkvang Comfort House of the Freya District and the Arena in the Thor District. They’ll be given bedding, food, clothes and anything else they might need without charge, though they are more than welcome to find shelter with familiar faces or elsewhere.

Feel free to wander the streets at will, but try not to poke noses where they aren’t welcome, lest they get the rolled up newspaper. ]

[ She laughs again, shoulders shaking with the effort it takes to suppress it. ]

Because I don't need or want to be protected.

[ She's smiling, trying to discourage his little frown. ]

--and because people don't take you seriously if they think you're a kid. It's annoying.

And why would you want them to do that? If they take you seriously, they drown you in responsibilities. Enjoy your freedom!

Hehehe. I've got a million responsibilities anyway. People not taking me seriously doesn't get rid of those, Jack.

[He rolls his eyes.] What responsibilities do you even have at your age? Feeding the dog and passing Math?

[ Jade just cracks up at that before she can help it. ]

Ummm.. no, I really wish! Would you believe that before I came to Asgard, I'd only ever met two other humans in person ever? --oh, three, if you count my grandpa.

Yeah, you told me you were alone for a long time. [And that's something he takes very seriously, so he quits the teasing tone for now.] What about it?

Umm. Everyone else is gone. We had to restart the world, and it's our job to try to.. save it, I guess. As much as we can.

[ She sounds a little awkward, almost uncomfortable about broaching this topic. ]

We have a lot of responsibilities.

[Jack stares at her for a long moment. He isn't good at this - dealing with awkward moments. And his inner old man is reacting to the story.]

[ She flashes him a wide smile, then, an obvious attempt to get him to relax. ]

No shit! But it had to be this way.

[Sorry, Jade, but this time he doesn't smile back. He doesn't like seeing ruined childhoods.]

No, it didn't. At that age you aren't supposed to... [A sigh.] If the person that put you in that position ever shows up, let me know so I can kick their butt.

No one did it to us, Jack. It's just something that happened. Our world is.. weird, and that's okay. I don't regret it.

[ She pushes the toy at him, then, as if offering to let him hug it. ]

And I had a great childhood, thank you very much.

[There, if he goes back to sarcasm he can get rid of all this awkwardness that keeps bothering him, no matter what Jade says. Abort, abort!]

You don't want the dog? I think I may have a few ponies left.

Of course I want that dog! He is my dog now, you can't have him back. You just looked like you could do to hug something, hehe.

[-do hugs, he wants to say, but he stops himself just in time. He isn't cold as fuck anymore, besides, Euri and Alice are already making up for it.]

--know what, never mind. That's for my staff, but if you or Osiris like fluffy things to cuddle, I have more toys that need a home, so. [He shrugs. Mostly he's given away the toys to children, but he can make an exception for Jade.]
