July: General Fourth-Wall Mingle

What: General mingling for the fourth wall event!

Where: All across the city!
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ Away from the rest of the festivities, there are still new arrivals popping into unexpected places without warning on Day 290 (July 5). Guards and maids will be wandering around with baskets of the temporary bracelets, looking to give one to every visitor along with any information they might need to thrive in the days until their gods can sort out this magical mishap.

Temporary housing will be set up in the Folkvang Comfort House of the Freya District and the Arena in the Thor District. They’ll be given bedding, food, clothes and anything else they might need without charge, though they are more than welcome to find shelter with familiar faces or elsewhere.

Feel free to wander the streets at will, but try not to poke noses where they aren’t welcome, lest they get the rolled up newspaper. ]

Well... In theory, yes, sometimes. I generally try not to, though. Sort of. Hard to keep track sometimes; time can be rewritten, you see, and I've travelled it for so long I've seen it rewritten many, many times.

Can you bring people back to life, then? By changing their future?

[ she's trying not to seem excited, trying not to hope. time shouldn't work that way, not from everything she's read. that was why proper use of a time turner was so important, wasn't it? ]

Yes. But it's not really a good idea. Not always. And definitely not if it means crossing my own timeline. I... lost a friend, once. Well, many times, but... one in particular, I mean. Technically, I could've gone back and saved him, but time would have broken. I saw him die. I couldn't just go back and change it.

[ Hermione doesn't seem too crestfallen - in fact, it makes sense. she knew bringing people back was impossible. manipulating time had consequences. it wasn't a fair question. ]

Don't be. It was a long time ago. Centuries. It's all right.

[ Of course he's sad, things like that don't just go away, but... It's all right.

Actually, no, it's not all right, it's all wrong. But it's okay. It's fine.

Of course it's not all right.

[ she murmurs almost fiercely, clasping her hands together before her. then she offers him a crooked smile. people dying.. friends.. he's right, it's wrong. but sometimes, it becomes fine. ]

[ He frowns. Really, Hermione? Not exactly rude, but a little... stupid. ]

[ she stares at her hands. ]

[ He silences for a while as he moves to occupy himself with. Work. Like you're supposed to do while working. Opening up old wounds is a bad idea, but sometimes you can't really properly explain things if you don't. Still, that's enough talking about that, and the best way to move on is to change the subject.

But it's brilliant. Time travel, I mean. Leaves you with endless possibilities. Live a few hundred years and new possibilities will always show even if you're stuck on one planet your whole life, but take all of time and space and you'll never, ever be bored.

[ right, working, and that reminds her to occupy herself with something as well - like stocking shelves. that way she wouldn't have to stare at him, with his sad eyes and her eyes that she knew were equally sad. why had she brought up such a melancholy subject when today was supposed to be happy? ]

I'm sure it is. Even with just .. 19 years, I don't think I've ever been bored. And to see new planets, that must be amazing. So many new things to learn..

Oh, yes. It's the best thing there is. Especially if I have someone to show it to.

[ she pauses, book still in hand, before setting in on the hand. ]

Well, if you have all that ..I can't imagine going all by myself. I'd want to share it.

Yeah. Exactly.

Well, of course I'd have to take Harry and Ron, too. They'd never forgive me if I left them behind.

I'm not quite sure they'd see the educational value of the trip, but they'd certainly enjoy it.
